What will you do differently in this game than new leaf?

- Finish the museum
In New Leaf I am very close to finishing the museum. I am still 16 fish and 3 bugs away. But I am so far in the game now, I don`t play enough to get the more rare fish and bugs that I need.
- Build the town some more
Since we seem to have more freedom on how many items we can put outside, where we can put it outside, and can actually change the very earth we stand on, I am so much more except to build the town how I want it to look then I was in New Leaf. I am I still did things in the town, but I hated not being able to put certain things outside or put them close to something else. I REALLY hope that we don`t have to wait for villagers to request public work projects. If we don`t get them all right away I hope we get them as you play more of the game. There are still public work projects I can`t complete to this day because I can`t get the darn villagers to request them.
- Craft / Buy Items Myself
I have used Bell Tree Forms to get A LOT of my items in New Leaf because most of the really nice clothes/furniture was harder to get. Now that you can actually craft some of the items, I really wanna try and really earn everything myself.
- No time travel
I wanna make this game as real as possible. Play it right and earn everything myself.
- Not be as picky with villagers
We all have our dreamies. But I really wanna experience villagers I have never had before, especially since this game as even more new villagers since New Leaf. I might not even have dreamies in this game. Or split the number of villagers we are allowed in half. Half dreamies, half randoms.

I want to try planning my town a lot more. In past Animal Crossing games I've mainly just played with whatever they gave me.

Also I want to use this as a good excuse to learn how to make some nice looking pixel art.

i plan on not resetting!! from new leaf, i fondly remember my first ever town which i had for a couple of years because of how it grew and evolved, and i didn't get to see that kind of progress again when i started to reset. this time, i'm going to focus on keeping my town and relishing its natural development. i also want to play more independently and focus on the little things, rather than spending time worrying about making everything perfect.

Dude, preach. Your list is basically the exact same as mine, but I've got one extra thing to add to my list:
Plan out my town! Seriously, with the new tools and stuff, being able to create my t̶o̶w̶n̶ island to my liking is going to be what takes up so much of my time! At first, I was all willy-nilly, and kinda planned near my leave of ACNL, but now I know that I NEED to start planning ASAP.

I?ll try to not restart my town. I?ve been thinking of a island names and character names that i really like, because I would hate to get get the urge to restart. I want this island for the long run.

Also I?ll try to see if I don?t time travel. This one will be the hardest. Let?s see how the first day goes.

I have the same NL town that I had when NL first released, and I want to do that again with New Horizons. Once I have my town, I want to keep is permanently. I've been wanting to make this "perfect" town where there are nice and neat paths everywhere, it is organized and flowers are nice and neat, etc. I made progress towards doing that in NL, but never actually finished that. I would have paths and areas where flowers look pretty, then a new villager would move in and destroy my paths or flowers and I would have to work around them.

Now that we can control where the villagers move in, I feel I can finally achieve this. I think it would be cool to have a neighborhood section and a city section, then have my house nearby both. Is it true that animals don't go all over the map anymore? If so, on the one hand, that stinks, on the other hand, it adds to the realistic vibe of the outerskirts being more rural. I have mixed feelings on this, but I want to maximize my garden, farm, and public work project areas. I don't know if I want the urban and sub-urban areas close to or far away from the airport. I don't know if I want them at the top, bottom, close together, or super far away. I just know I want my house to be in the middle so I don't have to travel too far.

In NL I chose to not time travel for a month into the game. I will do my best to not time travel for as long as possible, and once I do time travel, only by a few hours, a day, or a week in the past in case I missed an event. I have time traveled to other holidays before in other games, and it lessened the impact of those events. I am sad but also happy we don't have access to other holidays yet so we can enjoy the game.

Everyone says this, but it would be nice to finish my museum. I don't know if I will actually 100% it, but it would be nice to fill it up, just like every other AC.

I will have the opposite approach of most people and be more picky about my villagers. In NL, I have had Mint from the start, and still have her, and I love that I have had her for so long, but I don't really know who any of my other villagers are anymore. When I first played AC on Gamecube when I was 8, I had Static and Nate, and absolutely loved having them in the acres next to each other. I'd love to have Static again, because he is very nostalgic for me, and I don't think I have had him since Wild World or City Folk. I also want Mint back. I don't remember how much I liked Nate, so for him, If I get him, awesome, if not, oh well. I am sure there are a couple others I would love, but don't remember. I am not as picky with my villagers as some fans are, so I will still have some wild cards, but I want to be more choosy on who joins my island this time.

I like the idea some people have on not rushing to get the house or upgrades, and I may choose that approach, but will also struggle because I want to see all the content lol. We will see.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE MAKING THE RESOLUTION TO NOT TIME TRAVEL: I've said this before and I'll say it again: me not TTing at all in New Leaf (after time-traveling non-stop in previous games) made the experience so much more rewarding. It's a little slower of a pace, but long-term changes actually feel like it took time to get there. Especially with New Leaf, it was nice to slowly see the town build up or watch summer turn into fall turn into winter turn into spring. These little moments made the game so much more enjoyable. This, and I wasn't preoccupied with cycling out villagers, so I actually talked with everyone and my town felt like it had an identity of a tight-knit neighborhood.

For me personally, this is apparently really common but I want to finish the Museum. I have yet to do this in any game, so I'm making this my goal in New Horizons.

Not sure, ACNL was my first animal crossing game so I learned a lot as I played. This allowed me to kind of go with the flow, and not be too controlling and reset a bunch, like I've seen some people on here do. Once I played freely and discovered ACNL on my own, I joined this site and began to plan out my town and traded/bought some villagers and furniture. However I never reset my town for a particular map and fruit, and I'm glad I didn't!. It was fun to work with what I had, and made my town even more special. I think I'm just going to carry over this mindset to NH. I already haven't "spoiled" NH for myself by choosing not to watch all the Nintendo Directs and stuff (mostly because I've been busy in real life haha), so I am excited to once again discover and explore this new game on my own before planning out my island and trading online.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm 95% strongly considering omitting (getting rid of) most of the time-traveling I usually do. I'm just worried that I'll be quite behind because 2-4 days out of the week, I can't play...

Isn't the beauty of this type of game the fact that you can play whenever you want? It is a game that you can completely customize at your own pace. If you can only play 3-5 days a week then it's ok. It isn't a competitive game. It isn't an MMO. I've seen a few people say this on other sites I visit and I don't understand why.

So agree with this, Due to work I will be playing mostly at night with some few day hours on break and mostly all day weekend but I dont feel rushed to get to an "endgame" here I can collects mats all day and feel great about it, everything will get to the player in time why rush it.

The main thing I want to do differently is not bring in a handful of favorite villagers with amiibo cards. It took away from the randomness and excitement of the game, as nice as it was to see them in my town. (I’m going to limit myself to just one at a time, maybe just one period.) Related to that, I never wanted to let any of them move away. Other than my one amiibo card villager and maybe my two starter villagers (I get attached!), I’m going to try to be more open to letting villagers leave once I’ve gotten their pictures, so I can meet more of them over time. I didn’t time travel and I did finish my museum, and am planning to do the same in New Horizons.

I'm not sure! I've always played however. In Wild World I didn't give a hoot about anything. In NL I gave a bit of a hoot.

So I guess..give more of a hoot? I'm really excited to get to landscape. I'd love to have an ah-mah-zing river. And cliffs will be fun to play with.

I guess I'd like to do flowers more, too. And paths. I never bothered with them because they were such a hassle, but with the built in path maker, I think it would be neat.

Reading this thread, I?m actually really surprised how common time-traveling seems to be

I never went forward in time, and agree with those saying that it?s a rewarding experience to take things one day at a time.
That said, going back in time (say because you had to miss a day or event) is a completely different concept though?catching up is not the same as jumping ahead imo, and I?d never consider it cheating (yourself or within the game in general).

I'm surprisingly not doing much differently. Still avoiding time travelling, trying to complete the museum and stuff, and starting from New Leaf on release means I never leaned hard on amiibo cards, not that I have many anyways.

What is changing this time is I want to be a bit more social and work on the outdoors a little. Especially since we have more stuff to make outdoor decorating easier and more fun this time.

I want to actually finish the museum in new horizons and limit my time traveling. I have never completed the museum or any catalogues in any of the animal crossing games o uo;; focus more on decorating than collecting

Follow my own style and aesthetic vs whatever's trending. I did enjoy a lot of the trends in NL but I honestly wish I would have added my own flair or spin on it. I also want to avoid time traveling as much and really cherish my gameplay. I don't want to rush through the game for the sake of upgrading things etc. I also want to be more social and have people over to my town or visit others. Last but not least, I want to complete any achievements, my museum, any sort of collections etc.

Take my time. I got into New Leaf quite late so I tried to make up for it by doing things faster (time traveling, getting all my dreamies etc.) and it kind of killed the game for me. Especially after having all my dreamies. I never wanted to let anyone go and the game got kind of stale after that. I wanted to experience living with the other villagers but don't want to go through the cycle to get back the dreamies I'll lose. Now, I would just reserve 1-2 slots for dreamies and the rest of the villagers I will let come and go naturally.

I'm not sure yet. I'll play the game first and then see if there's a way to troll, harmlessly of course. So no real difference, but no CT this time :/

Agree with all of this 100%.
