What will you do differently in this game than new leaf?

I:
- honestly don't want to waste months and months of time resetting for villagers, so I'm honestly kinda glad you're gonna potentially start with jock and uchi villagers? (I will inevitably end up resetting for cherries, triangle grass and a green airport but if that's part of the quiz at the start, it'll make things a lot easier.
- don't wanna time travel, ended up doing everything in New Leaf in about a month so I just want to go with the flow this time around?
- (this is more a GC-WW thing but...) Don't want to keep deleting my town, mainly because I honestly still kinda regret deleting my original Wild World town in a fit of boredom after a month and a half of play.
- I want to build up my town a little more? Like, not to the extent that people on here have done because it's fundamentally a game about living in a forest with animals more than Suburb Simulator 2K20 (With Added Animals!) but now that there's paths in the game, I wouldn't mind laying down some dirt or pebble paths just to make things a bit less like a giant field? I'm also a fan of putting up signposts, garden furniture (because that always felt wrong to me to have it inside), park-type stuff... y'know, the stuff that you should have outside, like the PWPs in NL.
- I will inevitably end up Amiiboing in my villagers (especially since I've got a Power Tag now), and more specifically end up Amiiboing in Chow... but apart from that, I do want to see what new villagers are out there?

I plan to not time travel constantly to unlock things or speed things along. I got bored of every AC game by doing this. I wanted to get my houses/town/landscaping etc to my perfect point and once that happened I just grew bored of it. Especially in NL because the villagers all sounded the same and I just lost interest in even talking to them. I used it to create rooms and dress my character up, I feel like this game intensifies what I really enjoy most about the game so I want to play at a much slower pace and really enjoy it rather than rush rush to get it where I want it then not touch it again.

-not rushing to get everything. in the first month of the game i had access to someone's town where they'd leave people come and drop items so you could walk around and catalogue everything. at the time, it was nice having full furniture sets and kk's music but i had nothing to look forward to in the shops.

-let villagers come and go. i was strict with letting them move in new leaf because i didn't want new move-ins to mess up my town and plot resetting was a hassle. i want to meet a large variety of animals this time.

-don't rush to complete all the buildings immediately. that includes house upgrades.

-if i use the stalk market with people online, no time travelling to buy piles of turnips

-no time travelling in general unless i need to go back a few hours to play an event.

basially just chill tf out because this game might have to last me 6 years lol

This is a great thread topic!

I've never been one for time travelling so I'll continue that trend into NH as I love taking it one day at a time, even if it is slightly annoying to wait for certain things to be done sometimes. I've seen someone else say that they have a habit of suddenly wanting to reset even if it's going well and I have this tendency too. I want to try and keep going with my town and enjoy the gradual build-up of everything; I think the fact we can move things even after we've placed them will help me with this feeling as I can change things when I want to, if I need to. I've always been pretty close to completing my museum collections, especially the fossils, but I've never quite gotten there so I'd love to complete it all in NH alongside my Critterpedia. I think I've also only ever paid off my entire mortgage with all the house upgrades once so I'd like to do that this time and fully deck it out with great furniture sets that I collect myself. Coming up with a plan for landscaping my island and actually making it into something amazing will also be different, as I've always previously left my towns as they are. I'm excited to see how all our towns progress and what people can come up with!

there?s a few different things i really want to do!!

1. I think I will try to time travel less (though I really enjoy it because I play at night and I like daytime in games) :)
2. try to base my town on something a little more, mine usually end up unfinished and whatever I want
3. I never let myself have all of my favorite villagers in one town. I would really like to try to have them all in one place!
4. not have any hacked items or anything from here. try to get as much as I can on my own
5. just try not to get burned out like I do on new leaf nowadays!

I don't know if there is anything I'd do differently. These doesn't really count, but...

Since we can place villager homes
* I won't stress over villagers moving out or moving in. (Losing good placements, and getting bad placements)
* I won't stress over villagers being in a spot designated for PWP.

Since we can terraform
* I won't stress too much over resetting for the perfect map and/or river.

Since we can move the placement our own homes
* I won't stress over finding the right spot.

(Unconfirmed) We may get to move/remove PWPs in New Horizons.

Since all the above
* I won't get depressed over the fact that I want to reset to fix placements of things, but I don't want to lose progress.

Since inventory can be increased to 40 slots at some point
* I won't stress too much over inventory management.
* I'll be able to fish longer before having to sell everything caught.

1. I won?t time travel.
2. No resetting. Not for villagers, maps, fruits, airport colour. What I get first time round is what I stick with.
3. Learn and use the stalk market.

I’ve been really happy with the approach I took to my second New Leaf town that I started last spring, so I’m not sure I want to do things too differently from that. The things I improved in that town vs my first one were:

Don’t stress about playing every day. In my first town, I delayed the clock to play days I missed, and I don’t think I ever made it out of 2013 in in-game time.

Do think about town layout, and make sure I’m not committing to anything I’ll be really unhappy with. I’m still wondering what the limitations of terraforming are, and how I need to take those into account in my town selection.

Based on my various AC experiences, I want to do the following:

Reset my town for a bit, but not too long. Maybe set a timer, perhaps for no more than an hour, or a total of five or ten resets? I want to be happy, but my free time is also limited. I probably won’t start the game until 3/21 (Saturday), and if I spend all of my available free time that day resetting my island, I’ll be unhappy come evening.

Balance organic town growth with early planning. In this case, since we can plan house placements, I want to figure out rough neighborhoods from the start. But I also don’t want to finish my town too quickly, so I’ll work on various elements over time.

Be more willing to change things if I’m unhappy. I tend not to want to redecorate rooms once they’re set up, even though I want to try out new furniture. I also need to be more willing to switch up what flowers I put where.

If I miss something (a piece of event furniture), try to obsess less about it, assuming it seems like I’ll be able to get said furniture again next year. This is a struggle for me, and it tends to ruin some of the holidays.

My things:
1) No time traveling. I tt'ed constantly in New Leaf and, while I had fun doing it, I think it shortened the amount of time I could play the game before I found everything/got bored. Also, my accomplishments will be more meaningful if I get them the hard way :)
2) No resetting the island. I think this one will be a lot easier in this game because it allows for so many things to be changed like layout, appearance, etc.
3) Don't obsess over the villagers I get, just enjoy them.

I really just want to enjoy this game for as long as possible and not sweat the small stuff.

The main thing I want to do differently is not time travel! I'm not even sure it's allowed in this game yet (I know Nintendo themselves discourages it) but if it is, I'm not gonna be doing it.

I also think I won't reset for a good layout as we know we can change terrain and such in the future so if the map isn't 100% how I want it, I know I'll be able to fix it eventually. Same with villagers. Since they can't spawn on top of my hybrid flower garden I won't stress too much about new guys moving in.

I won?t time travel either. I beat the game so fast from time travelling that I got bored on new leaf. Apparently time travelling isn?t even possible in new horizons though.

"I won't time travel"
I really want to stick to not TTing so that the game last an eternity. I have always time travelled in past AC games but this time I want to be good about it.

I also want to make all my hybrids myself and maybe blog a bit on Tumblr and here.

Have a name for my island already picked out. When I went to name my town in NL I wanted to see how many letters I had to work with so as a joke I typed in Cutetown. My hubby started talking to me so I got distracted and instead of hitting the backspace to remove "Cutetown" I hit okay and that was the name of my town. I had never played an AC game before & didn't know I could have just shut the game down to restart so in my mind I was stuck with "Cutetown". I'm not a "cute" sort of person so I wasn't really happy with the name. My son really helped me accept it though. He said that I had the chance to make the town into my version of what cute is and show people that cuteness can mean different things to different people. That's what I've tried to do and in the end I love my town.

I'm still making d*mn sure I have a name for my island picked out though....

Get things where I want them!
It was so hard to do things and planning at the very start was critical!!!
I'm going to feel much more relaxed that I can move things later on, should anything change on my island ( ᵕᴗᵕ )*・☪︎?̩͙

No time travel
No Dreamies- if someone I like moves in fine but no reset for it
Calming down my planning- I just spent some time designing my island dont think it will work because of where the plaza is

Well... this time around I will definitely play on a more "chill" way, in the other games I definitely rushed and got annoyed at some stuff.

But most of it has been fixed with the unlimited costumisation NH is going to have, like terraforming and moving buldings around, most times I had to be really precise and picky about where things would be, now I can just change them around.

I am also going to avoid dreamies and let villagers move and come more often, maybe keep like 1 or 2 villagers, but not be fully attached with all of them, that's all part of playing in a more chill way, I want things to evolve slowly this time, and I want to play the game for a long long time now, completing stuff like the museum is one of my goals.

Another big difference is that now I want to engage more with the AC community, joining the forums is a big part of that, I want to make friends to play and share projects with, and have lots of fun in general, being able to finally play an AC game on realese plays a big part on this.

Actually decorate the town. NL's PWP system was just so hard to use and restrictive, on top of PWP's being requested randomly by villagers. I never got anywhere with it. This game looks great... You can just put furniture outside like you do in houses. Simple. It never needed to be anything more complex than that.
