What's your thoughts on the Ok Boomer

What's offensive about calling people the generation they are actually called? That's like saying okay Millennial to a Millennial or okay boomer to a zoomer (wtheck is a zoomer? What years?) Is it used in a negative rude context? Yes. Offensive? I guess people are tyrin to use it in an offensive context but that's what their generation is called.

And I'm not referring to when people use it at a non-boomer.

Anyway at first I thought it was funny, like most other memes (I have a dumm sense of humour) but like all memes it has been used alot, almost over used at this point.

I think it's offensive due to the fact that it's usually used in a very dismissive way. There's nothing wrong with the word "ok boomer" by itself., but it depends on the context in which it's said in. I don't have a problem with the meme being used without ill intent like this. I have a dark sense of humor and do admit that some of the memes were funny, but then there's stuff like this music video that's just straight up rude and kinda grouping all boomers in the same stereotype, which is definitely not true. Like there's no way "old ladies suck" isn't meant to be offensive. I've volunteered and worked with older adults and some were the sweetest people ever.

Have a lot to say, but I think I'll just put everything in my essay and not TBT

Also before anyone points out my username, I made it when I was 14 lol.

Neither. I think the joke is already getting stale so I don't think it's funny, but I think the idea that this is somehow derogatory or offensive is nonsense.

One of the worst memes either. (baby) boomers are people born in the 40/early 50s, not the current generation and the way it's even used is just offensive in general. Unless you actually say this to someone online make sure they are your grandpa before you do.

Also not all people over 30 are considered "old behind people" or whatever people are trying to achieve with this. Just ****ing stop using the expression and unless you talk to someone over 70 that is an actual baby boomer shut the **** up, it's not that it's funny in any way being old considering **** or whatever.

I think it sucks that people feel they need to invent new terms just to insult folks.

Okay, but the term 'boomer' has existed for a long time and has only in the past couple of years been used more so as an insult, especially recently with the sudden wide spread meme of "ok, boomer". It's just shortened 'baby boomer', the generation after WW2 where birth rates massively increased.

I can see why it has become a popular thing. Seems to be targeting a mentality common with that age range more than targeting the age range in general. Many people of that age range do disproportionately complain about "snowflakes" and "millennials" (seemingly anybody younger than them being a millennial), "back in my day!", insisting that young people are just lazy and stupid rather than the world being drastically different from even just 10 years ago, complaining and outright refusing anything that doesn't fall into line with their often dated views and knowledge. Add on to that events that effect everybody such as the ever unpopular Brexit or Trump elections being disproportionately older people...Strangely, they don't seem too happy about all these "millennials" just brushing off and ignoring what they have to say with "ok, boomer" the same way they will often brush off the opinions of younger people with "okay, kiddo".

In the context it's being used it seems like one of 'those' insults: not everybody is a boomer and if you're offended, you're probably a boomer.

While I'm definitely not that old, I find it offensive that mostly younger meme people kidnap the term boomer and basically applies it on everyone older/less knowledgeable/less woke than themselves so yeah, sure call me baby boomer like some 70 year old lady I don't care. It's just so ****ing dumb that it even arose and it needs to be killed.

It's so funny, it's literally just saying "ok". It's extra hilarious because it offends people who use "triggered snowflake" on a daily basis as well, ****ty dismissive people getting a taste of their own medicine is always very satisfying.

I find it endlessly funny how the people who go on and on about how horrible it is that everyone is so offended by everything these days find "Ok boomer" offensive. Not that there's any shortness of things that make them offended. It's just nice to see the hypocrisy put up and front.

I've seen for many years people who whine about people being so offended these days lose their minds over things like being told "Happy Holidays", plain holiday Starbucks cups, same-sex/LGBT representation in media (or LGBT people existing in public), peaceful protests like kneeling during the national anthem, etc. and yeah, the hypocrisy has just become too much to bear. Guess what? You're not above being offended by stuff, you just are so far stuck up that you think that what you're offended by is righteous and thus you can't even see it as such. Get over yourself. Also be offended over things that are actually offensive and harmful.

I know it's not actually necessarily boomers all of the time who do this stuff (I've certainly seen the mindset among people in my age range), but I just like it being called out anyway.

I love it. Having baby boomers triggered is one of life's joys. It's full of irony.

It usually is baby boomers who have this toxic mentality though which makes it hilarious. Gen X's are almost just as bad tbh.

Who even came up with this? Did some random internet celebrity who I don't know say it one day and all these kids start using it afterwards? Because for me it came out of nowhere and then I just saw everyone using it without even know why. A bit context would be nice...

Honestly, I find it really funny, I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I agree it's just the internet, just point and laugh

Yes, even funnier when people use it when they obviously don't know what it means LOL. People just say stupid **** like this when they can't come up with a good argument.

Basically what Envy said. If we'd point out those people making memes and calling them sensitive they would probably "go be woke and read up" or something. Yet when it suits older people or groups it's fine to call them out. LOL.

It had a purpose at first, but now it mostly has devolved into an almost "u mad".
Expect it to exist as long as those millennial-baiting "news" articles do, maybe even longer.

Overused these days to the point of being rather annoying. As a one time joke it would be fine, but doing it to the point of disrespect/to undermine the opinion of older generations is rude. It's just like making fun of millennials simply because they're young- unnecessary and juvenile if abused.
