Im Figuring out which 3DS I should get for playing animal crossing new leaf and other games and I need help!

If you can afford it I recommend the “New 3DS XL” model. The faster processor makes games run better (usually with shorter loading screens) and the face tracking 3D makes playing in 3D much nicer. There’s also a rounder grip which makes longer play sessions more comfortable.

I’ve had mine for two years and it’s worked so well that playing on my other 3DSs feels worse in comparison. It’s that much of an upgrade.

Thanks this really helps!

I think any of them! If you don't care about screen size but LOVE customization then you should get a new 3ds as you can change the cover plates! Its really fun to change them but if you didn't get cover plates back when they were being produced then your out of luck. They are VERY VERY expensive online. I personally use an OLD 3ds XL. The New 3DS XL is the best model overall though. If you would rather get a slimmer model but with the same screen size then get a NEW 2DS XL. Its better than the 3DS XL if you dont care about 3D or like the traditional design. The old 3ds and the new 3ds's do not have too many differences and I cannot really tell the differences when I play my consoles. The 2DS normal one is more comfortable though. I think any of the XL models are the best though!! You will love the 3DS if you get one!! THEY ARE THE BEST :) Stay happy and positive!! <3

wait I could get a new 3ds and paint over a plate and draw something on it wow thanks for the idea of getting that!

I'd also vote the new 3DS. It's definitely worth the upgrade unlike the OLED Switch.
Soo true lol. The New consoles atleast had a TON of upgrades that made the experience way better. The Oled is like primarily just a handheld screen upgrade...

Thats the best part! I have a ton of cover plates from when they were realeased and did you know they released some patterned ones / solid colors? You can make your own! Tons of people have! There are even some video on youtube of people decorating them with chamrs and stuff!! I LOVE THE NEW 3DS for literally everything. PLUS THE BUTTONS ARE COLORED. Sadly I only play my second NL town of Rainbow on it. I think I have gotten used to my XL's screens ever since I got it that I think the new screens are small. If you havent played a DS then it will be perfect. But I would wait to buy any system until after the craze. They have been $200-$500+ ever since the virus. I got most of my systems before and they were anywhere from $50 - $150 for special editions and normal consoles. The plates are also very expensive but I think they will never go down :( Some are $30 which is ok but they retailed at $14.99 and ¥1500.

A new 3ds from that line. I think the 3D looks good in ACNL so I would discourage getting the N2DS. I have big hands so I'm satisfied with my N3DSXL. But the smaller one looks nice if you have normal sized hands.

The new 3ds was always my favourite. I had a white one with the interchangeable face plates and loved it- never found it uncomfortable either. It is slightly larger than the og 3ds both in body and screen. The new 3dsxl is equally nice to use, but it’s personal preference as to whether or not you need to larger screens or not. Otherwise, the new 2dsxl or the 2ds itself are very comfortable to use as run very well, the new 2dsxl a bit better though. You’ll probably find the new 2dsxl is the easiest to find. I’d probably just go with it, it’s not quite as nice as the new 3dsxl as the material isn’t as nice feeling and the speakers are in an odd position, the buttons aren’t as nice, etc. However, I think most people have named it their favourite from the series.

There's really not a circumstance I can think of where a New 3DS XL would not be the better option, regardless of which game you're playing. Better processing power, more RAM, larger screen size. It's the best way to play your 3DS games at the moment.

It's not strictly necessary, though. I think even if you decided to save a little money and went with an original 2DS model, you would likely be very satisfied wIth it, particularly for New Leaf. The only game that I can think of that absolutely requires the additional features of the New 3DS line is Xenoblade. There are others (Pokémon ORAS namely) that might benefit from it, but they don't really need it.

I personally love the bigger screens on the 3DS XL and the New 2DS XL (I have one of each). What's nice about the XL is that if you play DS games on it, you can hold down the start/select buttons to make the games display in their original resolution, so they don't look stretched out or anything. As I recall, DS games looked kind of off on the smaller sized 3DS, though maybe that's not an issue for you if you don't intend to play any DS games on your 3DS, or if the difference in the display was improved on the New 3DS (I never saw one in person so I don't know).

If you don't care about the 3D effects, the New 2DS XL is what I would recommend. Since you're intending to play New Leaf, if you want to use amiibo, you'll probably want one that has the amiibo scanner built in, like the New 2DS XL that I use. Some models of 3DS don't have the scanner built in, and you'll need a separate accessory to scan them with those. But that's only relevant if you want to use amiibo, of course.
