Neither are... great, but I think the tarantula is scarier to me. Spiders really freak me out and I find them just very unsettling in general—with scorpions, I'd be terrified to see one up close and personal outside of a zoo, but from a safe distance I think they're cool-looking. Not so with spiders. I'm also a Scorpio, so maybe I feel some odd sense of kinship?
I almost came across the Scorpion twice the other day but the first time it "killed" my villager and the second round it ran into the ocean. I fear spiders a lot so Tarantula.
I think scorpions are worse because lots of people have tarantulas and say they are peaceful critters. But scorpions are not only scary to me, but I also find them harder to catch than tarantulas because they have an asymmetrical shape while round shaped tarantulas are pretty easy to aim at.
They are both terrifying on the Tarantula and Scorpion Mystery Islands. Yikes. Having a bunch of them come at me...I'm just not quick enough.
I'm gonna say tarantulas simply because I dislike spiders and they are getting on my nerve since New Leaf. Catching them is just a pain in the butt, not sure why but compared to these little monsters it's easier for me to catch scorpions.
Scorpions are the devils play things. I hate any bug that can sting me. Tarantulas while being a wee bit spooky are pretty harmless. I don’t want to encounter either in game or irl but scorpions are so terrifying virtually and in real life that they need to GO
Both are quite frightening, but I think the tarantulas scare me a little more, just because it was my first exposure to the aggressive insects. I first encountered one in New Leaf, and didn't recognize it for what it was at first. I just saw it and thought "oh wow that's a big bug!" and pulled out my net. The next thing I know, it's running at me and my character had collapsed. I remember wondering "...We can die in animal crossing?! o.o"
I vote scorpion. I agree with @Bethboj they hide behind trees. I was on a mystery island looking for material net in hand in case I found a wasp. Was about to catch the wasp when a scorpion bit me from behind a tree.

Tarantulas are scarier to me. I am afraid of spiders and when I see the Tarantula in the game I jump and yelp a little bit. Sometimes I try to catch it, sometimes I give it to my husband to try to catch for me. I know it's a game but Tarantulas are startling. 🕷🕷🕷
Tarantulas don't generally have venom, do they? I think Scorpions are scarier; not only do they have the scary stinger with the venom, they also have them creepy claws. All around a bad time.
Wow the poll certainly is close! I think scorpions scare me more, the legs are so creepy crawly. I've also definitely been hurt by scorpions more often than the tarantulas.
I really don't like either, but I voted tarantulas, just because I have a huge phobia of spiders. And I have had one too many chase me and bite me unexpectedly in the game.
both freak me out more than they probably should lol, but my vote went to scorpions. i’ve gotten a bit more comfortable with the tarantulas, and can even bring myself to catch them for fun now, but scorpions still make me anxious whenever i see one.
This is mostly due to the fact that I have handled both IRL to some extent -- I used to work at a pet shop, and had to feed the scorpions, and I was always afraid they would sting me, because they aren't very shy animals. On the other hand, I had a pet tarantula, and the worst thing about her was that she would web all over me, and her tiny hairs came off and would make me itchy as h e c k for a few hours, lol.
But they are both kinda cute, I would just never hold a scorpion because they don't sting just out of defense, whereas all spiders only bite to eat or in self defense when they have no other possible option. Biting actually expends a lot of their energy and they know it can kill them, so they'd much rather curl all their legs in and act dead! So while of course it's some kind of fun necessity in AC, it's not a reflection of IRL, haha.
