Which Nintendo DS do you have, if any?

My first ever Nintendo was a DS Lite! I used it until the hinges were loose and everything terribly scratched (I was very young and didn’t really take care of things). I then bought a DSi with pocket money I had saved up. Later I got a 3DS XL to buy the new games. All three of these still work and by now I have two more DS Lites because I love buying broken ones and refurbishing and fixing them myself 😊 the intention was to sell them again but somehow they are still in my drawer. I also plan on buying a 3DS and fixing it up, it’s just a fun hobby for me! I love tinkering with technology.

I’ve had way too many. Over the years I’ve had the DS Lite, original 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, DSi XL, original DSi, and finally the New 3DS XL in that order. The DS Lite had by far the best battery life, but I still think the New 3DS XL is the best one. It can run some games faster, has face tracking 3D, faster download speeds, a second analog stick substitute that helped with camera control in some games, bigger screen, and a much more comfortable grip. Some even had nicer IPS screens too. Going back to other DS systems feels like such a downgrade for those reasons. Whenever I play on my DSi my hands get super uncomfortable, but I’ve never had that issue with the New 3DS XL.

I've got a lovely crusty little rose gold DS (the hinges are barely holding on), and a New Nintendo 3DS XL that has a slightly broken touch screen, so here's my artist rendering of how it's broken:

if I draw or type anything in that side area it gets pushed outward, creating a line 😢
it also means that when I want to type the letter A I have to go into the weird mobile dialing keyboard thing and press 1

hmm...as of now? just my 3ds and dsi XL, but i lost my original ds, which is a bummer. >:

I don't have one currently, but I did have one I was quite fond of. It was the Pokémon X Special Edition 3DS XL. They also have a red one that corresponds to Pokémon Y. I loved the colors on it. The subtle outlines of Xerneas and Yveltal look great. The only thing I didn't like was the glossiness. I would've preferred a matte finish, but it was still a a great handheld.

I'm kicking myself for never saving these old consoles or handhelds because now, they are worth lots of money.

I used to have a pink DS Lite, but then I sold it in favor of a red 3DS (I know it was a dumb idea but younger me was dumb). I got a blue 2DS later. When the red 3DS' L and R trigger stopped working, I transferred everything to the blue 2DS. I love the 2DS. It's a great system.

I have a new 3ds xl which was the first ds family console I got. It's red but currently has a Hatsune Miku skin on it. The second ds I have is a red original model ds I bought off the internet because I wanted a console that could play gba games (<- there is a very specific reason for that). I'm not sure about getting any other models since I can do everything I want with the two I already have.

I have a regular DS and a DSi. I still play them since I have DS and GameBoy games I’m really close to beating, but haven’t yet. (Looking at you, Mario & Luigi games, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Pokémon Emerald, HeartGold, and Pokémon Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness!)

I own the OG DS (the fat one) in blue, I was so happy to get that thing as a Christmas gift in 2005 along with my first copy of Wild World. I've owned a handful of DS Lites, including a black one which broke, a white one which broke, a black and blue one, a black and red one, as well as the Phantom Hourglass Special Edition DS Lite which I bought pre-owned and is unfortunately damaged.

I also have the OG DSi in light blue, as well as a DSi XL in blue.

As far as 3DS systems go, I own the original 3DS in blue, the Ocarina of Time 3D Limited Edition 3DS, and the Majora's Mask Limited Edition New 3DS XL.

You may be inclined to think my favorite color is blue, but it's not! That's just a coincidence.

The only Nintendo DS I currently own is a blue Nintendo 3DS, but I used to also have a coral pink Nintendo DS Lite~

I own two DS Lites from my childhood and an original DS I bought more recently. I don’t own a working 3DS anymore.

This timeline of events is pretty extensive so hold on to your Bells lmao

Growing up, my brother & I always ended up getting the "improved" version of every console generation. I don't know if my parents were aware of this fact or not, but it always worked out that way (GBC, GBA SP, etc) so while my friends had their original silver DSes for a while, the first one I ever got was the Polar White DS Lite!

I love how it matches with the sleekness of the original Wii tbh! It very well may be the console I put the most hours of into any single game; I first got into competitive Pokémon battling back in the Diamond/Pearl era, so my Pearl Version clocked in well over 1100+ hours and it stopped keeping track at 999:59 because who in the hell would play a single game that much hee hee ha ha 💎

Next up was my launch-day Aqua Blue 3DS!

I used to work for one of our local retro game stores and I remember that we ordered a bunch of these things to sell after taking pre-orders and whatnot, but our distributor dropped the ball and wouldn't be able to get them to us until a few days later or something? So a group of us ended up driving down to the shipping facility to physically pick them up and bring them back to the store for the following day so folks didn't have to wait, which means I ended up getting mine technically a day early 🚗

Marking the first time I ever personally purchased an upgraded version of a then current-gen console was the Pokémon Y 3DS XL/LL!

I wanna say it was the allure of the bigger screen and also the fact that up until this point I never picked up a special edition of a console before? I do wish Pokémon X/Y held up for me today as much as I liked it back during it's heyday but at least the design of the face plates looks rad as hell! Also if I recall correctly, this was the first time I ever got to play Animal Crossing so that's also a pretty significant milestone 🥌

The timeline gets a bit fuzzy here but what I think I got next was my Electric Blue 2DS!

Now I know what you're thinking... Why in the name of Arceus would I snag something that a lot of folks would consider a downgrade from the 3DS XL/LL?? The main reason for this purchase is so that I can stream DS & 3DS games on Twitch because this particular model came built in with a capture card modification! Also it was the cheapest option for that and it's not like I could use the 3D anyway, so yeah. I haven't used it as much as I'd like but I did play through the main campaign of Pokémon Conquest this past February and I do plan on a 3DS-related stream soon-ish... 🍄

Finally, what I believe to be the pinnacle of my 3DS collection is my NEW Nintendo 3DS, specifically the Pokémon Red & Blue Virtual Console bundle!

Originally I was incredibly on the fence about picking this version up as my XL/LL was serving just fine but the processing power of the NEW models, the additional thumb-nub thing for Smash Bros., and it's got RETRO POKÉMON ON IT HELLO THE FACE PLATES ARE AMAZING?? Eventually however, turns out my girlfriend-at-the-time/currently-my-wife decided to snag it for me as a birthday present and to this very day it is my favorite handheld console of all time! 💚

Welp there ya go, the unnecessarily-deep dive into my DS console history! It was fun reminiscing about all of the memories that this era of handheld gaming brought back though to be fair even now I still play a ton of retro content on my NEW 3DS and it always makes me yearn for the days of the old eShop as opposed to the NSO nonsense we have currently D:

I have a red DS Lite and a blue 3DS XL! ^^ Never had a DSi or any duplicate handhelds because I never really felt like I needed them (and they're expensive hhhh), and thankfully both of my DSes still work fine. They're the same ones I've had since childhood and I've tried to take good care of them!

maybe some of y’all can help me out!!

I have a pink Pearl DS lite I bought in like 2009 that is well loved and still in great condition!!! Wonderful hand-held. Saved up for a year for it. I still play it often and buy games for it occasionally.

I’ve been thinking lately I might be interested in buying a secondhand 3DS so I can play New Leaf because everyone seems to think it’s the best AC game and it’s the only one I haven’t played yet.

Would it be worth it still in 2024 to buy a 3DS? Do you guys who still have them find you use them often enough?? They still seem kind of expensive even though they’re discontinued and unsupported.

I've had the crimson red DS lite which went HARD. i think i've had each system from every line but eventually sold/gave away as i stopped using it

I had a gray Nintendo DS until it broke. I remember it feeling big and clunky in comparison to the 3DS when my sibling bought it for me. The 3DS is a purple, no XL or New version.

My first ever DS was the simple, pink coloured DS that I still have just for nostaglia. It still smells of coffee! My sister made me make her some drinks and I clumsily dropped a cup over my DS that I should have not put on the same table.
I also have a black and green normal DS.
I also had a black DS lite, though the screen uh, how you open and close the lid? It broke so now it can easily come away, so I don't use it as much sadly.
I then had a small 3DS red coloured. And then ised my Nephews blue 3DSXL, and finally brought myself a lovely orange and white 2DSXL so I use that a lot more!!

I know at some point, I don;t need all the old DS's.
