Between family and friends, which is more important to you and why? For me personally I find my family to be the most important thing in my life, especially because they?re all super sweet and supportive and I don?t think there?s one person in my family and extended family I don?t like. I do care about my friends too, but family comes first for me. What about you?

Friends; family is just connected to you by relation, they're not obligated to like you no matter how much effort you put into the relationship. Some people just won't ever get along or try to understand you.

That may seem like a cold answer, but I have my reasons; the biggest one being not a single one of my family members supported my (at the time) long-distance relationship. Meanwhile, my friends were extremely supportive. I'd be all for both if it was a different story.

Why do those have to be put together on the same table to be compared, though they're different kind? It's like
"Which is more important to you, water or food?" .... (?_?

Both. Family is important, but I also consider some of my best friends even closer than family. It intertwines for me.

Friends, as Snowesque said, family is only connected by relation, but that doesn't mean they'll be the most supportive of people. Friends seem more open and accepting at times when family isnt.

I have no friends so family. If I didn't have a supportive family or just any at all, I'd be lost as I'd have neither friends nor family.

Friends. I'm not really close with my family at all and I definitely prefer friends or idk even co-workers to talk to.

Lol, actually water. Or your own urine in worst case. You can survive without actual food but as long as you drink anything you won't die.

I agree with this. Family is only relation. Friends are more supportive of your decisions. I will always put my friends first, even if people look down on me because of it. Just because family raised you, doesn?t give them an excuse to not be supportive. Just because they were there for you when you were younger, doesn?t justify them being rude when you?re older. Now, I know not everyone?s situation is the exact same as mine, but I know people can understand where I?m coming from. People typically deal with family not supporting their decisions. When that happens, we have our friends. So, I voted for friends.

I understand you and most of my friends or just people I know treat me way better. It's as if a family relation excuse any ****ty behaviour and make it legit to treat your kids like ****. I mean honestly why people value family even when they treat you bad and they claim to still love their parents or whatever bs I don't get. I don't consider blood to be stronger than water, if I may say so.

My answer is friends. You have absolutely no control over who your relatives are. Friends are there because you actually have a fondness for each other. Of course, family members can also be your friends, and they often are because you will probably spend a lot of time with them. I would much rather someone spend time with me because they actually like me, rather than putting up with me because we happen to be somewhat similar genetically, while at the same time secretly resenting me. At that point who even benefits from that relationship? I know what happens when people who hate each other are forced to associate out of obligation, because I have seen it in my own extended family. It is such a vindictive and hostile environment that I want nothing to do with it.

I said friends because I guess that's what my boyfriend falls under, I'm not overly fond of my family so he's way more important to me. I can't wait for it to be just me and him.

Wild.

Okay no, I mean, they're soul and body, if not the edibles allegory. Family is body, while friends are soul. Body doesn't always follow your needs or what you're after, but you can't live just with soul no body, and vice versa, you need both.

When you're older, you can choose who to be your new family also, if you wish to be independent.

I voted for family, but I'm referring to the family I chose (my husband, my dog, etc) rather than the one I was born into. There are a few family members that I care deeply about, but for the most part, we are too different and being around them is always stressful.

I don't have many friends, so... Most of my friends have become part of my chosen family, like my husband.

I kinda disagree, but that's because I don't believe family bonds are that important imo. If you get a child you should raise it good or you shouldn't have one really. I don't believe they are body, soul or stuff like you put it, some people are good and some are bad. Also why should you "eat" or get fed by the bad bodies in this case.

I agree. I do not think family bonds should have so much importance on them. Some friends are nicer than family. Some family are nicer than friends. It’s not really a competition. Family shouldn’t have more importance on them just because they are of blood relation. You should not have to feel obligated to respect your family simply just because they are family. Not every family is supportive.
