Why Google wants to hear your voice and Facebook wants all your pictures

The craziest part are the people who feel comfortable leaving their home security as well as functions of their home up to companies like Google. As mentioned in the video, that enables the companies to hold the basic functions of your home like functioning heat regulation under "ransom" unless you agree to their policies (which you basically won't read and can change). It's straight up big-brother dystopian stuff and people willingly install these systems in their homes - as if products like Google Home and Alexa weren't bad enough!

I think using that google home crap is totally insane!

How could anyone trust that?

I'll open my own windows and pour my own coffee, thanks.

i dont even see how alexa/amazon echo/google home are innovative to people. idk what im missing here, it just seems like a gimmick, like i dont see how turning the kettle on with your voice is much more efficient than just...walking to the kettle. or flipping the light switches yourself, turning the tv on or off, doing anything that requires more movement yourself really, unless you have some sort of disability which makes it harder to do so. even then i dont see efficiency being more important than your privacy being breached. and then everything else these devices have to offer are things you can just do on your phone. they seem to draw in people who like smart devices for the sake of them being "smart" ya smart enough to spy on you........

You think you're safe, until you find videos of your marital activities on Youtube.

Ehehehe.

The first thing I do when I get a new Android phone, is disable 98% of the google bloat/spyware.

The irony is... I have to google what to disable.

What if we hit them with the “pwease? We just want owr economic fweedom and to be fwee from modern day nwational imperialism owo”

I always thought this kinda stuff was obvious imo.
Hope my personally assigned government agent enjoys animal crossing and madoka magica as much as me

Google called and said reading this made them cringe so hard they accidentally deleted all their records and cut off all their contracts. Capitalism fell due to the sudden annihilation of google. We did it team

It?s really unfortunate that there aren?t viable alternatives to the services of most of these huge corporations. There?s no privacy-conscious Facebook or Instagram, for instance. When alternatives do exist, they?re often not viable for most people (e.g how Linux is way too complicated for the average user as opposed to Windows).
I wish I was blissfully ignorant and unaware of these things.

Do you trust the government? Not trying to demean your beliefs but do you believe the government doesn?t have corruption in ways of money or social conditioning?

Oh no I fully believe it does. My statement was more towards the belief that one general person matters enough for big corps to actually care.

I get their after data and they're trying to sell you stuff, but there's millions of people out there. What makes someone so special as to be worried about it like that?

I believe the answer to your question was at the start of your sentence. Their dollar.

I love that despite the fact many of us hold different political beliefs, most (not all, but most) can come to the generalized conclusion and agree that our government/big companies are evil.

I don't know about you, but my country's been in so much divide, it's kinda nice to see people agreeing. lol

I mean I didn’t ask a question, but I will accept this and let it go. I have no business in this discussion.

Im sure most of the people in this thread have similar political views. I for one don't think Google is "evil". As a developer myself, it personally hurts to see such blatant lack of respect for innovation and technological advancements. Although there's always gonna be those people that assume smartphones run on magic instead of actually knowing what's inside. Reminds me of the scientist of old that were killed because their knowledge was considered witch craft and sorcery.

That there is a question, my guy.

It's pretty obvious to see we are criticizing the business practice not the software and technology it runs on but if you want to install your false narrative out of thin air, go ahead lol.

Marketers and advertisers prove to be the scum of mankind once again.
Sounds like an orwellian dystopia but I doubt in the state of things these corporations will do anything other than make money with it. this is a problem with capitalism itself. we can't be super scared of just this and ignore the whole system that led to this reality. And there's no fixing it, really. Either we all unite to establish a new economy (super unlikely) or not: the ones who are against it can become more concious and not be susceptible to stuff like this, but the majority won't. Eh.

Remember to disable microphone and camera access even on Instagram! I turn them on when making a story and then off again when uploaded.

What matters here is the context of the technological development though. Firearms were a big technical novelty yet their use is killing people.

Exactly. These technological advancements are nothing short of amazing. How they are being used is honestly the "blatant disrespect" people should being getting mad at.

Edit: I think I missed your point. I personally do thing search engines like google are necessary to our evolution and enlightenment.
When you take this seemingly positive advancement and manipulate it to serve you and a small amount of the population, that’s when a positive becomes a negative.
