This topic is mostly for people who were on the fence or felt negatively in a way towards NH. If that doesn't describe you, its cool. You're still welcome, though I would like to hear from people who were like me in some way.

Ok, so with that said, I feel like with both the updates(free and paid, and I WILL be getting the paid), NH for me will now have more than enough content parity with the former games. I always liked NH I but felt that content was scarce. Now from what I've seen, this is exceeding, at least for me. I think that with everything presented, I'll eventually be able to say that I 'love' playing NH, instead of 'liking' it like I do currently, and that I'll finally put New Leaf on the shelf. The updates didn't show everything I was looking for(multiplayer games/update), but I'm not asking for perfection, just a little more that what we got, and to me, Nintendo delivered. (y)

i voted "below" just because NL still wins out for me. NH is a close second now, when it was tied with LGTTC for the position beforehand, maybe even just below. my biggest "hopes" for NH were the cafe mini-game, the mini-game island and a shop upgrade, none of which we've had so far. obviously i'm still excited for the additions we're getting next month, don't get me wrong, and it's shaping up to be a great game now, it's just still not #1 for me.

For me the only thing NL has that NH could also have is the multiplayer mini games, it's weird they didn't add even one simple game. I'm hoping they will add that in another update but regardless I love NH and even without this update it has become my favorite AC game. I hope people feel better about NH now like you do. Yay for New Horizons! :lemon:

I haven't given up hope yet on the mini games to play with friends...but I DO think they will be a paid DLC if they happen at this point since apparently this update will be the last big free one.

I am really excited for all the updated goodies! It's going to really kick the game up a notch!

The paid dlc was announced in the direct this morning(happy home paradise), so it's definitely happening.

The only reason I didn't vote "above" and just voted "same level" is because the game -- UNLESS I AM WRONG, COULD BE -- still doesn't include some of the very core characters/features of all past titles. To me personally, these characters/features are extremely important -- them being both the pelicans and the Post Office (I loathe the 'post card stand' idea, give me immersion please, and Phyllis rolling her eyes at me) and Gracie Grace (enough said). IF, however, these are also there and just weren't shown, and are included in that whole "there are more things not shown in this video you will experience too" line at the end of the free content section, then I'd change my vote to the top level.

We can't judge for sure until these are out and we see for sure. But this is a MASSIVE improvement on NH in my eyes. I was getting really frustrated with NH because it felt like it still was an early release game that we had to pay full price for, and still even after all of these updates didn't feel like it even compared with base NL (meaning pre-WA release). This feels like it brings NH much closer to NL - maybe even surpassing it. We'll see.

The biggest NL feature that is not present in NH at all is the mini-games. I honestly got bored of the island mini-games very quickly so for me personally, this feature is a low priority for me. I much preferred the Desert Island Escape and Puzzle League games that the WA update put in, because they were more substantial games. I wouldn't mind if all of these games returned though. Honestly, bringing them back might give more people incentive to pay for online, so they can play these with others.

New Horizons was always on the verge of being my favorite AC, but I couldn't quite give it the title because I felt like it has so much potential that wasn't being utilized. This update and the DLC has gone a long way to live up to its potential. Having HHD become a part of the game is just really the icing on the top of the cake. I have a hard time believing that I won't call NH my favorite AC game from now on.

Yeah, I still call NL my favorite AC game. But these new features, especially basically inserting HHD into the game with this DLC, makes me think that FINALLY NH is maybe going to surpass NL.

I was super excited about NH pre-release because I could see so much potential in the game with things like terraforming and being able to decorate with furniture outside. But the game just still felt like it was missing so much. Yes, I've put a lot of hours in the game, but it's still disappointing to me because it hasn't met those hopes and dreams I had. The free update + DLC is taking an enormous leap in the right direction.

It would have been "above" the other games if the announcement had included Gracie's.

But overall I'm honestly extremely excited for this new update. It may be too early to know for sure, but I feel like the game will finally feel finished and I'm honestly excited for all of these new features that are unique to New Horizons. Can't really think of anything negative to say. Everything just looks amazing and they even did some things better than the older games. Gyroids for example. Always hated them because they looked so clunky to me. But now they all got these super fun and unique designs.

Won't know for certain until the content releases and we know every minute detail of what all is included with stuff like the furniture (since they showed the rococo couch, for example), but my inclination tells me that even with all of this great new stuff, New Leaf will still be #1 in my personal opinion.

New Horizons will be a close second because it made great new additions like being able to choose from different skin tones, placing items outside, etc., but for as great as its singleplayer content will now be, it still lacks anything worthwhile to do with friends online by not including minigames like Club Tortimer in New Leaf had. Also, I might've missed it if they did show anything of the sort, but in New Leaf you could change the color of the light that eminates from your windows and door (for example, one of my New Leaf characters, a vampire, has red light from a specific type of lamp in her house instead of the normal white or yellow) and that was a nice little extra touch. Also, I'm aware that there are apparently 3 more home expansions coming, but unless they somehow make all of the rooms match the scale of the main room, I'll still prefer New Leaf in that regard too because I've had to make sacrifices to room designs in New Horizons because of the weird room dimensions, when I never really encountered that problem in New Leaf. Then there's other New Leaf features I like, such as indestructible Golden Tools, Perfect Fruit, dead trees, Silver Axes having a chance to leave a special mark on tree stumps when you cut a tree down. Plus, I just prefer the Main Street and the lively town feeling of New Leaf compared to New Horizons' island.

I need to play through the updates before I make thay judgement, but it will likely be above the first 3 entries. I don’t think it will be better than New Leaf, but like I said, I don’t know fo sure until I play through it.

You can't win over everyone.

But to me, the game was the best in the series even before this update news.

And when I heard the news I felt nothing at all.
At first I was happy. Then really happy. Then super amazingly happy.
Then nothing at all.

This update made me feel so happy that I felt nothing. I couldn't deal with how amazing it felt.
20 minutes later I let it all out and was a happy dancing mess.

No doubts its the best in the series for me
Streets ahead of any other game

I'm going to start off by saying how happy I am with the coming update—it really does include things I've been missing as well as things I would've never expected. It's a pleasant surprise, and I'll most likely be picking the game up again the next few weeks.

That said, there's a difference between how I feel about the content and how I feel about the game as a whole experience. And that experience, from Spring 2020 onwards, has been lacking. Adding these features now will improve my enjoyment of the game, but it won't undo the months of disappointment I've felt toward Nintendo.

I'm an extremely patient and pretty forgiving person, so much could have been done to make this a better experience for myself and other players. Just being more open and transparent from the start—providing a roadmap of sorts and confirmation of certain features/content yet to come—would have been enough to tide me over until now. As it was handled though, I've lost a lot of respect and love for Nintendo (and the franchise, by extension).

So where does that leave NH in comparison to other games? Hard to say, so I won't vote. Content-wise I think it's on par, but experience-wise I just can't get over the last year and a half of waiting, wondering, worrying. It's a shame.

Oh yeah—and tacking an announcement for paid DLC onto the only real big, worthwhile update we've gotten? (Insert expletive of your choice here)

I am going to sound like one of those people and say that when we saw the new update its all stuff that I wish it was in the game at launch, but I'm really happy that it is and its going to make the game somehow better than the older AC games depending on how well the update itself does by the time it comes out.

I have been on the fence about weather or not I liked this game more then past games. Mostly because this game had so much potential but felt empty. After this update that added so much I thinks it’s now the best in the series. Even though I didn’t get everything I wanted I did get things I didn’t expect like vegetables and cooking . It still would have been nice to have mini games, more villagers, being able to store flowers.

I like this whole post. It pretty much encapsulates how I feel about NH for the most part. Before launch, I thought NH had real potential to be better than NL just based on things like terraforming and decorating outside alone. But I was assuming that we'd get all of the basic features of an AC game from the get-go, not feeling like we were given an unfinished, early access game.

I defended the game when it first came out until about summer 2020, because at the time I had faith in Nintendo and thought that the updates would soon be coming. After the diving/art updates, I felt better for a little while... but then by the time it got to fall, I was feeling disappointed again. The updates were coming too far inbetween and were too small. This year until this announcement was even worse, because each update has ultimately only added a small amount of things and nothing really new to do. NH still had the big problem of feeling like there was nothing to do, and this is coming from an AC fan who is used to the slow pacing of AC games. I was starting to feel like Nintendo had tricked us, and it's been a real chore to boot up NH all year as a result of those feelings. Also, as a result of those feelings, I had severe doubts for this Direct when it was announced.

I do feel much better after seeing this. I am very excited for the update. However, this update I think should've come about a year ago - last fall - when me and lots of others were starting to REALLY lose interest. I do think this update will bring some people back, but I'm sure others will not come back. They've already completely moved on, maybe even sold their copy of NH if it was a physical copy.

I think the main place we differ is I'm excited about the DLC. But I was one of those people who really enjoyed HHD. To have HHD integrated into a mainline AC game sounds way too good, and the price for this DLC is cheaper than HHD was when it was new.
