I understand the argument about the floors just having been cleaned, but.. That only counts when you don't wear any shoes inside, right? And also if you don't have any pets walking around, good point John Wick.

The matter depends for me both on what type of food it is and what condition the floor in the situation is.

If it's something like a fruit that hasn't yet been peeled and cleaned and you can do so, like an apple or orange or some such, then yeah I'd totally just wash and remove the outer layer and then eat the flesh. I feel the floor still needs to be fairly well-maintained though.

If it's something that doesn't have the benefit of an outer layer, then no, more often than not I'll tend to throw away whatever fell. The five second rule is a myth, so yeah, I'd rather not.

As for fruits and veggies, I don't know how it is in every one country but in mine, most of them are not wrapped, put in pyramide and fall on the grocery floor all the time. The clerks just put them back with others.

five second rule!! although i wouldn't pick it up if it fell on the ground outside or on a dirty floor, even with the five seconds rule.

If it is something I cannot wash, then definitely not.
I am somewhat of a germaphobe so I am definitive about it.

When it comes to fruit and vegetables, I would just like to point out that they are grown outside in the dirt. They are already exposed to all of the things that you are worried about tracking in on your floors, including wild animals and all of the things that animals do. Maybe I have a different mentality because my grandfather was a farmer and I spent my summers picking vegetables with him, but to toss something like that just because it touched the floor seems wasteful to me. Not only has the item already been exposed to far worse than whatever is on my floors, it's been handled by countless people at the store and I don't know where their hands have been. As long as it's still intact and you wash it, it shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, that only applies to fruit and vegetables. Heavily processed foods are created differently and there's a reason why they are usually in sealed containers. I wouldn't eat any of those foods off the floor.

Okay so it depends. I live with 2 dogs so there's dog hair everywhere, and I'm DISGUSTED by hair in and on food.
However, if that food looks good, and there ain't no hair on it, and I've just dropped it and picked it up? Heck yeah I'm gonna pick it up.

My brother one time kicked my bowl out of my hands (i wasn't really holding it and we were playing around as siblings do) and I dropped my chicken wings. Only one was salvageable. Of course I ate that got darn chicken wing and it was really good too.

The five second rule is a proven myth.
Google it.

Bacteria on the floor attatches itself to food dropped on the floor within those seconds.

In public? Never.
My house- aka the one I share with a dog and other humans? Never.

My grandma's place? Yes. It's spotless enough one could treat a dying patient and there wouldn't be any risk of contamination.

It depends on the floor and type of food. If it's off the floor at home, then I probably will because I know our floor is relatively clean. If it's a sticky, messy food that's fallen on the floor, then definitely not. If it's in a public place, hell no xD

This poll, in my opinion, is just as nuts as a poll asking: "Do you wipe your butt after taking a dump?".

It's a given.

i dont eat food unless its spent at least 30 minutes on the bathroom tile

So it’s a given you don’t eat food off the floor...

So...

You don’t wipe your butt?

what if I wipe my butt with the food that fe- sry ill stop

Depends on the food and how dirty the floor is and for how long the food was there.

basically this lol i'd say no if its carpet floor. It also depends on the overall condition of the floor since pets and outside dirt and germs accumulates as a result, the 5 second rule is overthrown lol
