Totally depends on the floor and the type of food.
If it's in my house or the house of someone I know is a clean freak, the food has been on the floor for less than thirty seconds, it's the kind of thing that won't attract dust & dirt the moment it hits the floor, and it can be easily picked up off the floor? I will absolutely eat it.
If it's at work or in public, the food has been on the floor for an extended period of time, it's the kind of thing that will attract dust & dirt the moment it hits the floor (i.e., a cough drop that's fallen out of your mouth), or it can't be easily picked up off the floor (i.e., pudding)... that food is going into the compost, no matter how tasty it is or how hungry I am.
Surely y'all aren't THAT hungry.
There was no mention of kitchen. It was just floor in general.
It makes me shudder to think of anyone doing this. Yuck.

Being hygienic doesn't make you a queen.
Dude if you know what has been on the floor or the floor is clean it's not that big of a deal. If anything it makes you healthier by strengthing your immune system.
I'm a total clean freak too, but I still wouldn't eat off my floor.
Your shoes pick up dust and whatever is outside that you bring back in, plus my cat could have just used the litter box and walked around the house and to the kitchen where her food and water dish is.
No way, no how, would I ever risk disease.
Surely y'all aren't THAT hungry.
Uh, no. No it doesn't.
I've never heard a doctor recommend I compromise my immune system to strengthen it by eating off the floor.
Your post is truly mind boggling.
Anyhow, I've got better things to do than debate the PRO's of E. coli, because there are none. :-/
Also, the 5 second rule is a proven myth.
Don't put yourself at risk. It's sheer idiocy.
