Okay I know this one is going to be pretty debatable but I recently watched a video from YouTube that showed all of the villagers rudeness in GameCube version:

I know people argue that villagers in the newer games since New Leaf have become a lot more friendlier and nice. Even in New Horizons there is barely any rudeness with the villagers. Even the more meaner ones like Cranky villagers barely show any rudeness. So let me ask you this honest question. Would you rather have Rude villagers or just stick with the more friendly villagers?

Me personally I’d like them to stay as they are... friendly, because I've come across a lot of mean people in my life and having friendly villagers makes me smile. I don't want to have all the negativity.

I've personally never experienced rude villagers since I first started in New Leaf, but I'd sure like to have conflict against them to bring more life. Though I do have a limit to the amount of rudeness they have. I've already watched a few videos highlighting the rudeness of the villagers and saw some of them that are uncalled for. Like why would you get mad if I answered your question? I'm more of a person that wants aggressive villagers and not being downright bullied.

I'd like the rudeness to return but only to an extent. From what I've seen villagers were outright brutal to the player in the original game. I didn't mind the moments they had in Wild World though. in NH most Cranky and Snooties are just too nice to properly fit the personality in my opinion.

Yeah there’s already so much hate in the world we don’t need anymore of it. Yeah I agree if they made the dialogue like that NH there would be a massive uproar about how bad it is. I don’t think people realise just how savage they were! I sure didn’t think it was this bad. I’d like them to stay as they are... friendly.

I'd like it for some of the villagers! cranky and snooty should definitely be more stand-offish than they are, although perhaps not to the unnecessary extent of the original game at times. it's nice having them be friendly now ofc, but I feel like some kind of rudeness (at least when you first meet some villagers) would make sense for their character

Rude villagers adds more depth, and also adds an incentive for you to create a friendship with them. This gives character development. I guess maybe just tone them down a bit, because in the GameCube, they were a little too rude. Such as demanding you hand them something in your inventory or 50% of your bells without any way of saying no.

I also think it would be more fun for the villagers you hate and want to kick out.

I dont necessarily want them mean. I wouldn't mind getting more dynamic villagers though. Like if all the personalities had the intensity that the jocks and uchis have and then lines specific to their hobby. They should also get into more fights and good moods with each other and then tell you about what happened. A few branching villager dialogue options with a menu of items for you to choose from.

Basically, more socialization. I think this is more along the lines of what people are thinking of when they say to bring rude villagers back.

i wish that there could be a balance, i was looking up old dialogue yesterday and was laughing so hard at some of it, i really wish they could be a bit sassy again because i think it adds depth to the villagers. have some be rude, have some be nice, have some a mix of the two

like right now i just think theyre boring, theres no life to them, maybe if they had more dialogue it would work but as of right now i only talk to them to give them something or on holidays

The villagers don't need to be rude again.I'd rather have the ability to interact with them more and to be able to have extended conversations with them like in Population Growing.Currently, villager conversations are way too programmed and stiff. They don't flow like they did in the earlier AC games and I think that might be the biggest failing of New Horizons.I'd much prefer more variety to villager conversations than more rudeness.

I like them the way that they are. I'd say maybe they could get away with making smug, snooty, and cranky slightly more attitudinal, but I really like that they're much nicer. They can still say things that have a rude tinge or get angry. The degree of rudeness in past games seems to be a bit overblown. If they were to add that back in I think many people would be upset that their favorite villager is now mean to them. I think a way it could come back would be to have them be a little more rude if you don't talk to them for a week or if you hit them with a net or something. As long as it's in response to something bad, I don't mind a little rudeness but on the whole I think I'd much prefer they stay friendly but just have more dialog in general.

oh man, most of these interactions have me spitting my coffee out 😂 a lot of these lines i can see coming from the grumpies already in NH, too, so that makes it better for me, honestly.

i think it adds more dynamic to the game; not everyone is going to be happy or handle rejection that well, and if you aren't going to play into those mini games - gosh, how dare you - then you deserve a snooty but humorous comment. i think that would broaden things a little bit, than just always getting a nice passive 'oh yeah, i'll go get my own _____ somehow then, thanks!' in response to saying no to a trade, etc.

I'm not interested in rude dialogue, but I think it would benefit villagers to have a wider range of emotion or more of a character arc as you build friendship.

Two specific examples I'm thinking of:
1. Sable's character arc where she is shy at first but opens up the more you talk to her

2. The way villagers sometimes have happy/angry/sad reactions when they have conversations with each other, then you have the option to cheer talk to them and make them feel better

One last thing, I saw this video on reddit the other day and it seems like some personality types can still be kind of sassy if you don't talk to them, haha

Sometimes when I refuse to sell something to my smug villager, he says, "I'll get my own, and it will be better than yours" and makes a little angry face lol

I would welcome the rudeness with open arms. Sometimes negative personality traits builds character especially if you have villagers with headcanon relationships. Snooty villagers not being so snooty sort of ruined the personality type for me. They seem more like elderly grandmothers now. Not that I hate them for being nice but if these personality types had more variation than the usual dialogue it would be a more interesting game.

Like others have said, it'd be nice to have a little more dynamic dialogue instead of the villagers telling you about things you already did such as digging up fossils or catching fish. Honestly I find the "rude" dialogue from the Gamecube version waaaayyyy less grating than the NH villagers getting passive aggressive when you talk to them more than once "so how have the uh... minutes been treating you?" "let's see how many MORE times we can talk to each other!" "I do seem to be seeing a lot of you today..." Like dang, at least the Gamecube villagers had actual substance.

i feel like there needs to be a balance of both!! villagers are supposed to be like real friends and even friends can be snarky sometimes or make a rude comment.. just like everyone else i want more personality for these characters and more diverse interactions

Give the Cranky and Snooty villagers the rudeness from Gamecube and that rudeness can slowly disappear as you become better friends with them. As for the other personality types, it would be nice if they could have a way their personality starts and then as you become friendlier they turn into the villagers we have now. For example,

Normal- Starts very shy then opens up.
Peppy- Tries to show off all the time and put on an act, but then calms down as they reveal their real self.
Sisterly- Maybe is unsure about you (and not shy about it) and slowly comes to trust you completely.
Snooty- Like I said above, start rude and become nicer.
Jock- Puts on this cool, sporty guy façade and treats you like a rival, but then eventually treats you as a teammate.
Smug- Maybe tries to impress you all the time and then realizes they don't need to do all that.
Lazy- I think it'd be funny if they become more motivated as they got to know you...but not too motivated.
Cranky- Like I said above, start rude and become nicer.

Otherwise if I had to definitively choose either rude like Gamecube or nice like New Horzions then I'd choose nice like New Horizons, which is what I voted for.

I dont want rude villagers just to be rude for the sake of it but it would bring some realism or freshen up the game if villagers would have bad days and would thus be not rude but not that social with you and depending on their personality type they would express it one way or another. I would not want one specific villager type to be rude just because of their personality type but i would love to see my villagers be like really "cranky" or "brat wise" or just "whimsical" every now and then ! Because even the happiest person on earth has bad days there is no need to make everyone in the game high on happiness 100% of the 365 days of the year, thats just creepy 😅, but this is all just my opinion :)!

i was actually going to put in my post that them being always happy is kind of creepy! its like there are suppose to be personalities?? because i dont see too much separating each personality from the other
