Ranking: 3 > 5 >> 6 > 1 > 2 > 4 >>> 7 (I haven't played 8 yet)
Pokémon Emerald is still one of my favorite games of all time. I love it and to me, it's basically a perfect Pokémon experience.
I concede that G5 has the best story in Pokémon tho

4 > 5 > 3 > 6 > 1 > 8 > 7 (I never played 2)

My bias is showing since SoulSilver was the first Pokemon game I owned, but Johto has a special place in my heart, and Platinum is just a really good game in general.

I still have my old cartridges for all of these games and replay them every few years haha. Gen 8 is only ranked higher than 7 because Galar is based on the UK which added a lot to my enjoyment of it.

Gen 4 was the best! HGSS being the best games for me! Hopefully DP remakes next year!

I have soft spot for Gen 4 since Diamond was my first Pokemon game. I have such fond memories of it, and it brought some of the best starters. It also brought some amazing Mons like Porygon-Z and Yanmega :) And the QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF THE LEGENDARIES!

I love seeing that gen 3 is winning ♥
fire red was my first pokemon game in elementary school and I loved it to bits. And I was somehow able to find the gameboy color version of pokemon gold a few years later and remember loving how the little pokemon follow you as you walk. I though the plot was better in gold as well.
But my third pokemon game, ruby, was my absolute favorite. I loved the pokemon contests and the way they gave each pokemon their own personality, and the underground bases just blew my mind.
I got pokemon pearl when it came out when I was in middle school and liked it enough, but never bought any of the new games after that because the newly designed pokemon just didn't have the same charm for me. I think its because they started making more pokemon based on man-made objects and I think its cool because it shows that pokemon evolved alongside humans, but I just wasn't a fan of the designs.
The last pokemon game I played was let's go eevee and wow its a whole new experience now! The fact that you can see which pokemon if lurking in the grass before you decide to encounter it is a game changer and motivated me to come as close as I've ever been to completing a pokedex.

Gen 4 for me, I played both Diamond (my sisters copy) and Soul Silver when I was younger so they are my favourites! I really like the additional minigames, I used to play the beauty contest loads and same with the pokeathlon.

Tie between Gen 4 and 5. Love the Pokemon, story, evil teams, and had a challenge with them. Just has that classic DS-Era feel I really love. Never played much of them as a kid (since i was more focused on MKDD at the time), but I still loved them nonetheless. Still gives me nostalgic feels though =)

It's really hard to just pick one out of the list, though if I have to it would have to be gen 2 since it has such a special place in my heart. But gen 3 is right behind it and also had really good memories as a young child playing it, and that's where I learned more on how to really play the game.

I will say this wholeheartedly: gen 5, without a single doubt. For once, I could play through a Pokémon game without gen 1 shoving its way onto my team, somehow. Having a full team of Pokémon from the generation you're playing is such a fresh feeling, like you're not "paying homage" to any other gen but this one. I understand it gets hate because "haha ice cream Pokémon is dumb". Every gen has dumb Pokémon.
Also have you HEARD the gen 5 ost? It's beautiful. Granted, the song I remember the most is the scary Ghetsis theme, because his Hydreigon destroyed my team and I had to redo the fight a couple times... But the fact that I shivered when I heard it when fighting him in UM shows how much Unova impacted me, alright?
And, idk, this is subjective, I'm sure. But gen 5, both BW and B2W2, have the best plot of any core Pokemon game (specifically put "core" to exclude the MD games; those are in a category all their own), and I'll fight anyone who disagrees! With my turtle plush.

Gen 3 for sure. Though gen 2 and 4 would definitely be runners up. I still like all the gens/games (yes even gen 8), but gen 2 - 4 was the sweet spot for me with gen 3 being perfectly in the middle.

Gen 2 all the way. Going to explain why in a spoiler in the very rare chance someone hasn't played gen 2 or a gen 2 remake.

The best part is the post game -- learning that the Kanto region is available for you to explore too!!
I loved that by the time I was complete with the Johto region, I could visit Kanto and see how time impacted it. It extended the game and the immersion factors and gave continuity between gen 1 and 2. I really wish they'd revisit a feature like this -- I'd love to be able to visit old and familiar regions in newer games in addition to the main region.

my favourites are omega ruby and alpha sapphire, probably alpha sapphire more because i love blue lol

but i also really like x, ultra moon and soul silver
then again i sold soul silver a while ago 😅 (small price to pay for a 2ds xl haha)

i'll start liking diamond & pearl when i beat cynthia (if that ever happens)

i've only played from sinnoh and up, but my favorite will always be sinnoh (which i really hope gets a remake someday!!!). it's what i started on and is the one i know best, plus i love making poffins, and doing contest!! galar is a close runner up!!

if i had to sort them? sinnoh, galar, alola, kalos, and unova. i would put kalos last, but i don't even remember much of unova orl

Gen 5 for the win!! Black and White are my favorite pokemon games of all time, with the sequels being very close behind! I adore the story and characters, the villain team and the rivals, the new pokemon and especially how in BW you only had all new pokemon until postgame, I thought that was so cool when I played it and I was so hyped while waiting for it to come out and planned out my whole team before the launch, and that was just such a lovely experience to me, and the gen also easily has my fave starters and legendaries (and most of my favorite overall pokemon), plus the music too is wonderful. Unova is my favorite land too, and the changing seasons was so cool, and just, gosh there's so much I love about it?? Part of that might be because it was a huge positive influence on me during a really difficult time in my life, one of the worst points of it to be totally honest. And I just fell so in love with everything about the game (and N... especially N) and I'm still super in love with it all this time later. BW are the only pokemon game I've played over again (you wouldn't believe how happy I was when my sister gave me her copy of white~!) But I also just played a lot on my Black game even after I finished the main story and stuff, which I never really did with any game after it.
BW2 is also wonderful to me for a lot of the same reasons, but I also just really loved that it was an actual sequel.

I also dearly love Platinum, that was my very first pokemon game and it still means a lot to me, it was also a really great experience (though honestly I could probably say that about most of the pokemon games, at least that I've played). Soul Silver was also great, I didn't play it myself but I watched my sister and I loved it.
Pretty much the only game I didn't really care that much for was X, I mean I still had fun with it, but a lot of it was forgettable and felt like a let down to me after BW and BW2, especially story wise. I also had a bit of mixed feelings for Moon, but I did enjoy it quite a bit still (enough that I eventually played Ultra Moon too). I got Shield for christmas, but I haven't played it yet, so I don't know what I'm gonna think of it honestly. I'm excited though!

Second gen will always be my favorite! I played Silver when it came out and SoulSilver too when it was released a few years ago. I love the pokemon, the music, and the discovery of the Kanto region post-game.

I'd have to say for me it would be Gen 4. Platinum and Soulsilver are my favorite Pokemon games to this day. Physical/ special split helped balance the game more. I loved the Sinnoh and Johto regions and most of the new pokemon designs. Platinum also had a decent story and good post game. I felt SoulSilver did the original games justice, enhancing what made them great.

What is your favorite Pokemon main series generation of games? I've grouped the games based on the 8 generations (because unfortunately there aren't enough poll options to include every game/pair of games + remakes). Vote for your favorite Pokemon generation and share your reason why you voted how you did!

Gen 1 and gen 2 pokemon imo were the best, they get really tiresome after a while. Certain ones really irk me too when they are based off of ice cream cones and silly things like that. I like my monster and animal pokemon and dislike item or object based pokemon, defeats the purpose and breaks the chain of development for me.

Probs gen 3. Regretted selling all my gen 3 games back when I was mentally unstable, but somehow found my brother's old emerald game and...kept it. I never restarted it either. Honestly though, having a blast with the Hoenn remakes....don't judge me.

I like gen 6 but only for ORAS. I like gen 2 as well cause I have no idea why.

Gen 7 and 8 are definitely lowest for me. It seemed after gen 6, they went somewhat downhill.

My favourite has always been gen 3 as it was the first generation I really took interest in and played (we did have gens 1 and 2 but I didn't play them much, mostly watched my siblings play them) but I really enjoyed the third generation games and loved the Hoenn region and all the new Pokemon, especially Spheal. I also really enjoyed the remakes of these games, they don't seem to be loved by everyone but I thought they were really good and liked that I could replay one of my favourite childhood games on a newer system with better graphics.
