I’m going with Johto, if it wasn’t obvious. I’m a huge fan of the Totodile evolution line, and I think that the second generation had the best Pokémon overall.

i know there's a remakes category in the poll, but i'm so used to considering them as part of the generation they came out with that i went with gen 4 anyway 😅 my favourite pokemon games are heart gold / soul silver, but in general gen 4 is to me the most solid gen because the combo of those + how much i liked the sinnoh games + the gen 4 spinoff games (ranger: shadows of almia, original pokemon rumble, mystery dungeon explorers......)

i think if i had to rank them, my personal gen order (counting spinoffs & remakes) would be 4 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 6 > 8 > 7 > 1

For some reason, this ranking seems like the same exact ranking I would give the generations. Maybe one or two of them swapped, but pretty much the same. You have great taste!

My favorite is Gen 4 because I enjoyed Platinum and I think Sinnoh is a very diverse region. I also love the Battle Frontier and Wi-Fi Plaza in Platinum. What I loved the most about Gen 4 is the use of Wi-Fi Connection and the physical/special split which benefited the Pokemon games tremendously. I also have fond memories of playing with others in the Sinnoh Underground. Can't wait to the Sinnoh remakes and the Pokemon Legends: Arceus game.

I also love the Gen 2 games because I love Johto and it has a nice Japanese flair, especially Ecruteak City. I loved Soul Silver because it has so many features. It's also cool how you disguise yourself as a Team Rocket Grunt in HG/SS. I adore the music for Gen 2 as well. Not to mention that Gen 2 has a great post game since you get to explore two regions.

I also liked Gen 3 because I think Hoenn is a very tropical region and ORAS for nostalgia. Gen 1 is great too and I loved LeafGreen because you can explore the Sevii Islands in the post game.

Gen 6 was magnicifent and I loved the French-inspired Kalos region so much, especially Lumiose City. I'm happy Fairy types were introduced in Gen 6 because it balanced out the type chart well. Mega Evolution was a nice feature as well, and I also loved Trainer Customization.

I loved Gen 7 because Alola is so tropical and the music was brilliant. The story from Sun/Moon and US/UM was cool and I like that Gen 7 has Island Challenges and Kahunas to battle instead of gym leaders as a change. I'm happy gym leaders returned in Gen 8 though. In addition, I'm glad they removed HM moves in this generation. I'm not a big fan of Z-moves or the Ultra Beasts from Gen 7, but nevertheless I loved this generation very much.

Gen 8 is excellent for its Dynamax and Gigantamax feautures and I think Sword/Shield are very good, even though I wouldn't call them the best Pokemon games. The Gym Leaders are cool and I think it's great we got an expansion pass instead of a remake. The music was awesome as well, especially the gym leader theme.

I liked Gen 5 too but I think Black and White get way too much undeserved praise for its story. On social media, I've seen people saying things like "Gen 5 had the best story and NO GAME will surpass this generation!" I admit the story from B/W was quite intriguing compared to the previous generations, but it wasn't perfect. I think Team Plasma are a bunch of hypocrites - these people claim they want to help Pokemon, but then they go beat up a Munna in the Dreamyard. Even Ghetsis admits he never cared about helping Pokemon and only wanted to take over the region, so their plans really weren't that interesting. Like don't get me wrong, I loved this generation I just think some people praise the story from B/W too much. If there's something worth praising about Gen 5, I'd say it's the Audino battles which make it so much easier to grind and that TM moves became reusable. Plus I think B2/W2 were better in terms of features because it has more stuff to do like the PWT. I also think Unova has a lot of great Pokemon and that the ice cream and garbage bag Pokemon deserve less hate.

Overall, I really like all of the generations of Pokemon, though my favorites are Gen 4 and Gen 2.

Gen 2 and 3 are my favourites hands down. Both the originals and the remakes. I still have fond memories of playing Silver and being super excited because it was so new :D

I couldn't really get through gen 4, maybe because I was busy with other things in life, I don't know. I really want to try it again. I'd like to play Platinum once because I really prefer the pixelated graphics over the 3D on Switch. Too bad those old games cost a fortune now xD

Skipped gen 5. Might try it sometime.

XY was allright but I lost interest halfway(and was too busy playing ORAS lol)

I was curious about gen 7 so I got Sun. Kind of ok, but I wasn't too fond of the new graphics and it didn't have much replay value, so I sold my copy.

After that they just kind of lost me tbh. It's just not really my style anymore. And I absolutely hate the handholding they introduced in gen 7. Why?! Just let people figure things out by themselves, jeez...
I MIGHT still get the gen 4 remakes (it at least brings back the chibi-like overworld style and walking with pokémon).

Gen 2 was my fave, followed by Gen 3, and Gen 4, with Gen 1 after that. Gen 5 I don't remember much about, even though a lot of people say it has the greatest story, though as I recall, I was more intrigued by N in Gen 4.

When the games made the leap to 3D, I now realize that I started to lose interest in them a little, even if I do still enjoy them. I hope they'll surprise me in the future (maybe with Arceus?), but right now, it's not quite so exciting seeing the same models and animations in all the main games. Having different sprites was part of the attraction I had to the original games.

This is tough. I loved Pokemon from each gen that I have played. I think a lot of my favorites are from Gen 1 including my number one favorite, Mew ☺️.

In no particular order

Gen 1 favs: Charmander, Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Vulpix, Ninetails, Meowth, Persian, Ponyta, Rapidash, Seel, Dewgong, Lapras, Eevee, Vaporeon, Snorlax, Ditto, Articuno, Dratini, Dragonair, Mew, Mewtwo
Gen 2: Cyndaquil, Totodile, Politoed, Wooper, Quagsire, Espeon, Umbreon, Scizor, Delibird, Kingdra, Raikou, Suicune, Lugia, smeargle
Gen 3: Mudkip, Marshtomp, Swampert, Shroomish, Breloom, Sableye, Milotic, Spheal, Jirachi, sharpedo, wailmer
Gen 4: Piplup, Luxio, Luxray, Spiritomb, Gible, gabite, Riolu, Lucario, skorupi, leafeon, glaceon, dialga, shaymin, uxie, mesprit, azelf, munchlax,
Gen 5: Victini, Snivy, Oshawott, Blitzle, Zebstrika, Zorua
Gen 6: chespin, inkay, litleo,

I left some out that I thought were cute or that I liked, but weren’t favorites design wise or just didn’t like enough to say they’re favorites. I have favorites to use too.

Gen one obviously gets my vote!

Generation three for me, because that’s where I started playing Pokémon many years ago. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me and I can still remember playing it even though I was like six years old. 🙂

I got interested in pokemon during the 6th generation and I really like x/y and oras, but my favorite is gen 5. The music, the route design, the new pokemon, the story- it’s all perfect.

Gen 4 is my all around favourite generation. I played R/B/Y when I was young but didn't really like the idea of more games when Gen 2 came out (Oh No! I was a Genwunner XD). I did eventually get over myself and brought Diamond (After the heartwrenching Lucario movie), then I brought Platinum. Platinum became and still is to this day my favourite game and it had my all time favourite team (Shiny Rapidash, Shiny Dragonair, Leafeon, Lucario, Swellow, and Luxray)

BUT, Gen 5 is a VERY close second. I love the Player characters and NPCs in Black and White. If the game mechanics had been handled better and they didn't do the whole no older pokemon in the region thing I would say it would have probably been my all time favourite. The Characters, designs and the story were absolutely amazing.
