My first console was a Super Nintendo—despite not being gamers at all, my parents had one from a garage sale or something, so I grew up playing Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country from the time I was about 4. Plus a lot of classic old games like Pitfall, the video game of We’re Back!, the ancient Disney Lion King and Jungle Book platformers, etc. I remember making my parents leave the SNES on for several days so I could finally finish all the Donkey Kong Country games without having to restart every day.
It is interesting to me to look back on, as many of my peers’ parents were very hesitant about video gaming. I’m not sure why my parents were so positive about my interest in it when they themselves didn’t really see the appeal at all. Thanks, mom and dad!
