That's what I've been trying this whole time, but I'm so overwhelmed by all the possibilities that I haven't made any progress

It could be something else, too. Never know. But that was my initial thought, too.
I work
In layers (any program with layers) on these puzzles. So i can just have different possibilities working in different layers, lol, and delete the hopeless ones. Not a hint, but putting in spoilers just in case.

Same. Very frustrating to only have like, a single letter 'd'.

I have about half hour, then I'll be back working on it tomorrow.

We may need to use a different method, but I'll stick with this one a bit.
