I hope there isn't a thread like this already but I think we have all had one spot before which sometimes might turn into several spots and then severe acne. Hopefully you can share skincare tips here.

I have been acne free for a year although I get the occasional spot every now and again. I got my first breakout at 9 years old and since then I've tried every treatment. My mother spent over $400 on skincare products and nothing worked. I came across a dead sea soap in shop and bought it ($4- I had nothing to lose). I used it for 2 months every day along with Witch branded witch hazel moisturiser so my skin wouldn't dry and bam I had completely clear skin. I also put a tiny finger sized amount of olive oil on my face 3 times a week (because why not, it had brilliant reviews). I swear, you don't always need those fancy expensive products. A simple bar of soap and a good moisturiser can help more than you could imagine. I understand with cystic acne its unlikely to fully go away but for less severe cases it should clear your blemishes.

Please share other skincare tips if you have them x

Coconut oil is also good.

I can only keep my skin clear when I avoid gluten, dairy and sugar like the plague. AND IT SUCKS.

I usually get it when I'm on or close to my period which sucks because I'm so old.. I keeping having a babyface and these acne doesn't make it better, I look like a fricking teen.

But yeah as long as I clean my face and don't jav too much junk food it works alright.

honestly I never had severe acne but after going to the dermatologist and getting on birth control in high school my skin totally cleared up and it's been clear for years now with no product regime/nothin

except I do moisturize my face daily, idk if that has any influence on it or not. I think not

Man maybe i get a tiny one every few months, usually it isnt in a visible area on my face, tbh my mom has this extremely expensive cream thingy that i just put on the pimple or whatever and it goes away when i wake up or something

I haven't had any major acne problems either. I don't even wash my face daily. Usually I just splash some water on it every morning to wake myself up. I don't wear make-up either, so that might help.

Clearisil was one of the few acne lines that helped me when I was in high school, it's effective without causing any other issues, especially if you have super sensitive skin like I do. I also can't use very many moisturizers, the one that works on my sensitive skin without burning it is bare escentuals combination skin moisturizer. I also tried Origins recently and they're not too bad so far! The Ginseng scrub is very refreshing and the aromatherapy alone is wonderful to wake up with, it's very citrus-y and doesn't dry out your skin. The charcoal mask is interesting because it supposedly draws out impurities and bacteria from deep down within your skin, like all the gross stuff you CAN'T see, and it pulls it out of your face.

The redness on the right side of my face is just now starting to fade with a combination of some type of lotion and some kind of gel my dermatologist prescribed. I hate putting the gel on my face though, my skin is so sensitive it literally feels like my skin is being baked off.

I always have acne on my face. They're usually not too noticeable, but that's because I have a prescribed cream from the dermatologist to put on.
My face was REALLY bad at the end of 2013. My forehead, man. It was horrible. I can't even begin to describe how gross it was.
So compared to then, I could be a model. Seriously. Every time I feel bad about my acne, I just have to remember 2013 and then I instantly feel better.

I know your pain. I use to have intense acne and it was terrible considering severe insecurities come with it. It's that bad for me anymore, but I barely did anything. I don't exactly have acne, yet I don't have clear skin..just three to four small pimples every now and then, barely noticeable. I recommend seeing a dermatologist, she'll either suggest a tropical cream or a pill for your acne. The cream is just for cases that can be cleared up easily, and the pills are just for more severe acne, and it causes more side affects..at least from what I know. Just do these things if you don't already:

- Shower every day. Don't wash your hair every day though, just do that every few days to prevent drying out your hair and stripping away natural oils. Just tie your hair up in a bun or use a shower cap and wash your body. If it's just your face, then this is still necessary because it prevents acne anywhere else from breaking out (i.e arms, back, chest, etc). Also, it washes away any sweat from gym class or dirt you picked up throughout the day. Using the water alone works, but it's not as effective. Use body wash, or if you ran out or don't have any, use shampoo for the meantime

- If your hair feels oily, tie it up. Even when you're running or know you'll be walking around for a while, tie it up anyways. When or if you swear, your hair will soak up the sweat and it'll basically just be rubbing against your skin all day until you shower. If you're a guy, ignore this suggestion.

- If you tend to always wear hoodies around, wash them at least once I week. I know quite a few people who only washes them like once a month. It's true that they aren't like shirts, but they still soak up dirt and sweat

- Wash your bed sheets, pillow cases, etc once a week as well. Considering you lay on it like five hours per night, any bacteria or dried sweat rubbing against your skin constantly will cause break outs. As for blankets..I don't see them as much of a problem, so I wash them just once a month

Correct me if anything here is wrong, but this is just what I do and it makes a huge difference compared to not doing these things. Of course, aside from using creams and pills, you'll need to do at least some of these as well

I've never had very bad acne. I get a spot once in a while, but never break out. I'm not sure if this is advise or not, in general my family has very clear skin. For the most part, I never wear much make-up, I try to remain as stress free as possible (I don't take on more tasks than I can handle, etc) I notice I get more breakouts when I stress out. Aside from that, I have no advise.

Ugh, I am so jealous of everyone here who doesn't have acne. I have struggled with it since I was 13 or so... and almost ten years later, my face is super scarred from all the blemishes. I hope it will eventually go away.

Here are some of the simple tips that really works for acne problem.
1. Get good sleep. Stress increases your skin's oiliness, which, combined with sweat and dirt, can clog pores and cause pimples. (Change your pillowcase frequently.) Drink plenty of water.
2. Staying well hydrated can help your condition improve, because the "waste management" control system in your body requires a lot of water to do its job. Without enough water, the body has difficulty removing some waste products efficiently.
3. Look for face washes which contain the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide. This is the key ingredient in some of the best face washes. Use a 5-10% benzoyl peroxide of mild to moderate acne and 10% for severe.
4. Try smashing one tablet of aspirin in a small bowl, then adding lemon juice to the mixture. Aspirin is acetesalicylic acid, chemically related to salicylic acid. Apply to the affected areas overnight. It boosts the healing process while reducing redness.
5. Try putting toothpaste (paste, NOT gel) on your face, cover it with a bandage, and keep it on all night. When you wash it off in the morning your acne will look better. The astringent and surfactant nature of the toothpaste will help diminish the appearance of pimples. But the toothpaste has been known to burn sensitive skin of the face, so be careful. If your face does burn, stop acne treatments and work on healing your burn.
If you don't know how to get rid of acne scars fast , you should use simple home remedies to vanish these scars. Honey, lemon, Aloe Vera, coconut oil are really great in removing these scars.
