Yep, it’s a bit ridiculous that you need NSO (which I do have it, but I’m just saying) just do some basic things. This even goes for between other accounts on your switch. This doesn’t just go for Animal Crossing, but this goes for other games as well.
Whats even more stupid is that you also need NSO account to send letters to your friends. I tried sending a letter to myself but the game would not let me because I didn't have a NSO. Even when I visit my island by myself via local play I didn't need a NSO to do that because I have 2 copies and 2 switches, but I still can't send a letter to myself online. That really annoyed me so much.
I agree, it should've been free to go onto the Custom Design Portal at minimum. I can totally see island visiting and sending letters requiring NSO (though only if it's not through a local connection), but simply browsing through designs seems a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
Then again, it's something that never really bothered me, but I can see why it would bother some.
Speaking of custom designs, it's great that we have a search criteria feature, but searching a term only brings up exact match results. For example, I wanted to download a design of Cherry the dog to put on a sign in front of her house. Now, there were results for this, but also a TON of other results for the fruit and others (99 pages I think). Trying to find a good one was sort of a pain. I ran into a similar problem searching for Tom (again, the villager); it would give me results for Tom Nook and the respective character from
Tom & Jerry. There weren't 99 pages to go through that time, but there were only a few good ones. I'm not 100% satisfied with what I ended up getting, but it was the best I could find.
There should've been an option to search exact matches and similarly-named matches, but that would be too hard to do I think. If anyone knows where I could find more universal-looking villager designs, let me know.
