Hey, you might of heard rumors of a new Nintendo Direct coming soon, but I've put together a little theory, that this may be an Animal Crossing Direct!

Patterns in recent years have shown that Nintendo's Direct structure goes something like this.
Q1: Nintendo Direct
Q2: Nintendo Direct
Q3: Nintendo Direct
Q4: 2 Game Specific Directs.

Now we've had 3 Directs for this year, with the odd Super Smash Bros. one in there too, but now that we're in Quarter 4, we got a Smash Bros Direct, so its likely there may be another one coming up in the pipeline soon.

Rumors from leakers and stuff have said that theres gonna be a Nintendo Direct, as soon as November 8th! (Which I doubt), but this would make, no sense, as Nintendo have said, they have no more 2018 games to show. So this seems like it would be fake.

..Unless, it was a game specific Direct! But what could it be for? Lets rule out some of them:
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct
This isn't possible, as the November 1st Direct was "The last Direct before the game launches"
  • Pokemon Direct
This would be geared toward the new Lets Go! games, which are out in like, 2 weeks, so thats not likely.
  • Luigi's Mansion Direct
Its unlikely they would have a Direct for a Mario Spinoff, even a really cool one like LM.

This leaves one option, Animal Crossing! And alongside all of these rumors about the game being out early next year, I can see that happening!

What do you think about this?

Anything's possible, and if this were to happen then we can probably be confident that the game has a really early release date. I just don't think that the very first exposure we get to the game will be a whole direct focused on it. Of course that might have happened in the past but I don't know that much about Direct history haha.

I do think this will be a general direct though. Even if they don't have new games to reveal, they have plenty that they can share more info on. That would be suitable for a Mini Direct at the very least.

If it is an animal crossing direct, I?d love that. And if it isn?t, chances are it?s probably gonna be a DLC related Direct where they focus on games that are getting DLC, what contents the DLC will have and how much it costs.

And the reason I think of this is because Nintendo wants to add more DLC to already existing popular Switch games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for instance.

Oh absolutely, it would be incredible to have it so soon after the initial reveal. It has only been just under two months. But I have a feeling Nintendo knows we're pining for it bad. I imagine there will be an AC direct at some point even if it isn't this one, maybe Smash-style closer to the release.

I don't want to rain on your parade but I don't see any new infos on Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch until next year.

I feel like the next direct is going to be in December (after smash) or January. Don't know if it's going to be animal crossing specific or there will be a segment on it in a much larger direct.

I wouldn't expect any AC news until January or later, long after Smash Bros Ultimate has dropped. Nintendo probably wants to maximize hype for each of their flagship titles, and confusing people with AC news when they want to focus on Smash for the holiday season doesn't really seem likely. I'd wait until all the hype and excitement about Smash has cleared before looking for anything on AC.

That makes a lot of sense, they don’t want to divert attention away. I just hope that the wait is worth it

And even when Smash drops, a month or three after. They don't want to take away from that OR their DLC news for it.

I don't think smash is a factor in any animal crossing news. The crossover of the two groups is fairly insignificant in the broad scale - we who use these forums are probably pretty hardcore gaming fans but compared to the average casual animal crossing player, especially in japan, the crossover isn't a big deal.

There could 100% be animal crossing news alongside say metroid or smash news and they won't cannibalise attention for the average consumer. Nintendo has the data, just like they think a casual pokemon game won't cannibalise smash, they think the same of animal crossing and other series.

It's not so much crossover, it's more of "any news taking away from smash whatsoever".
