Any hope for new breeds

New Leaf also introduced deer villagers (as well as the two new personalities you mentioned).

To add on to that, Hamsters were new to the series as well with the nl game if I remember correctly

I won’t get my hopes too high, but there is a possibility they'll add new animal types, to fit in with the island theme

Snow wolves, snow foxes, bats, foxes, echidnas, alpacas etc etc. There are a lot of new species that they could introduce (maybe not arctic animals for an island lol). I don't know which would be my first choice though! It would be awesome if nintendo could introduce some new species of villagers into the game but I have the feeling that they won't.

On second thought, I would love to see the addition of Wombats! They are my favourite animal and it would be adorable to see them on ACNH.

Well the thing is wombats kinda live in Australia only... so im not sure it would be added

I'm still waiting for dolphin species. A catchphrase could be "flip flap" (kinda like Chai's one)

I heard from a popular leak on Twitter that bats will be a thing. Of course, we all know just how reputable these "leaks" can be...

However, it definitely keeps me a little hopeful that there is a chance! Bats are super cute and I love them. Plus, a solid nocturnal species of villager would be the coolest thing ever, especially for night owls like me.

Speaking of owls, let's add those to the list too lol. Bats and owls. All the yes!

I think there a currently a great range of Animals, they added a few un NL. You wouldn't want it overrun with too many as then you just get forgotten characters. Or If they did bring some new species id suggest Nintendo take the least favourite away as they did in the gamecube version

If they count special characters in with villager species. We already have a Otter species (even though it is only 1 or 2 depending on what title your playing)

Part of me hopes for fox and bat villagers, but then again, I'm not even sure how high the chances are
at the moment that any new species are getting add to the game.

Bats should be great, but I just think about puffins. There are so cute with their colored beak and sad eyes... and they looks like a little bit penguins.

And about dogs and birds, they all looks like the same. There are so many races than you can't just let them with the same appareance !

I think fox villagers would be cool. Will they add them any time soon or at all? Probably not. New Leaf did introduce hamster villagers though, so maybe they'll look into adding foxes.

Villagers I'd like to see: lop bunnies, armadillos, foxes, chinchillas, turtles would be cool too and maybe fish species. I used to think "how weird would it be for a shark to go fishing?" but then you have octopus villagers fishing, so I guess it can work out.

As mentioned by a few others, I would love to see some turtles in New Horizons! If not at launch, maybe it could be a DLC thing.

I kind of like the ideas of certain animals just being for special villagers. Like, I wouldn't want anymore Tanukis unless they are extra Nooks. No new foxes unless Redd has a smol son helping him out. No new Turtles, skunks, etc. etc. etc. I think it's nice to have special animal types just to be shop owners and NPCs and whatnot.

Now, as for villagers, the only new species I want is bats. If we don't get them, I shall be very cross.

I kind of would also like opossum villagers, but I would also be happy if they just colored a mouse to look like one. But I feel like I'd be the only one to like it.

Fox villagers would be so coo, but they would probly be to similar to wolfs. I hope for bison or maybe more birds.

At this point I doubt they will include any new breeds, or any new villagers at all. After all, nearly 400 villagers were featured in the Welcome amiibo update for NL and that's A LOT. It would be cute to have bat or fox villagers, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

I thought they confirmed there won't be any new ones? Maybe I'm confusing that with something else.
If they ever do introduce more species, I hope it includes lizards outside of the alligator model, and I hope we see different styles of dogs eventually ! Also, insects ! C'mon we're on an island this time, give me a bee villager ! ;;
