Most people on here are buying TBT for an outrageous amountof Bells. It seems no one knows the value of particular items and people end up getting waaaay overcharged. Could there be some kind of Recommended Prices thread that outlines where a good price for something would be?

Lassy has already put a recommended prices guide here. It includes prices of collectibles as well as the current in-game bells to TBT bells conversion rate.

That's just how it works. There's a lot of demand for this exchange, and in turn, people offer more so that they go to them instead of others.

It's pretty outrageous still. I get that people can do what they want, but it's just getting way too inflated that only uber-rich members can get over tens of thousands of bells using the TBT-ACNL Bell exchange method.

That's just the economy.

The richest will control the market. That's how currency works, even in the real world. It's nothing to stress over anyway because the stuff comes from posting and being active anyway.

Lassy's guide about all that is pretty good for what you're asking too (the link Tina posted).

TBT is interesting to observe because it is truly an unregulated, wild economy. In the real world currency value is not allowed to go wild or be controlled by the rich. The government actively has a hand in not allowing the rich to have a free hand. Further, the "economy" is manipulated by the government too. They can kill an industry with heavy regulation or foster one with incentives and tax breaks, etc.

Will TBT ever do this? I doubt it. Its virtual currency after all and the admins seem busy doing other things. It will really interesting to see how far up the rate will go. :)

Agreed, admins or mods will not get involved in tbt values. All they seem to be interested in doing is keeping it a closed system, i.e., no real world stuff like gift cards, cash, etc. Otherwise, it has the danger of becoming like bitcoin, which can actually be used to buy real things, and often drugs. In-game bells is also pretty closed system as no one really uses those to buy real things, so an exchange between in game bells and tbt bells is still a closed system.

That, also new AC bells are generated infinitely which causes insane inflation.

You are right, the only thing we control is making sure no real world currency get's exchanged. This is also why we do not sticky pricing guides. You are more than welcome to make and use them but they will not be sticked because we want people to realize that they can set prices to anything they want.

I understand that sometimes people set prices to ridiculously high amounts but they are within their right to and people are within their right to buy at those prices. If someone sets the price way too high and people don't like it, don't post in the thread and they may lower their price to something more reasonable to entice more customers.
