Cats all the way for me 🐱🐾

While I think dogs are great and have a lot more interesting breeds imo, they're just a bit too high maintenance for my kind of lifestyle. I can barely take care of myself so taking care of a dog would really take its toll on me lol I do have some experience taking care of a dog though, for my niece, but that was only for a week. He was a lot of fun having around, that I can't deny. I also did enjoy walking him. Seeing other people walking their dogs is always nice.

Dogs require more care, especially depending on the breed. Some are more energetic than others. Some need wide open spaces and lots of exercise while others are good for apartment life. I'm not particularly fond of the barking.

Anyway, I'm 100% a cat person. I've had much more experience and interaction with them, considering I've owned 2 cats before. I feel like all cat breeds are chill enough, and more importantly low maintenance (well, except for sphynxes since they require regular bathing) I like how independent cats are. They're not attention gluttons 😂 plus I just find them cuter, especially rambunctious, playful kittens 💗 I love how cats purr and rub all up on you, and sometimes even give you a kitty massage! So cuddly and sweet (when they want to be lol after all, it's attention on their time)

Cats all the way. Dogs are nice, but they're a little... Too much for me, and I get overwhelmed with them sometimes. Cats are a lot more reserved and independent, which is something I prefer. (They're also, in my opinion, much cuter.)

I like pretty much all animals, but dogs are going to win by a pretty wide margin for me because I am seriously allergic to cats. There is zero chance that I could ever cohabitate with one unless I wanted to be extremely sick at all times. Thankfully I'm not allergic to dogs, so I've had a dog or two for most of my life. My childhood collie probably could have been considered for sainthood. My current dog, not so much--but I love her very much anyway.

I like to wave at the neighborhood cats, though! I'd be happy to have both as pets if my sinuses would let me.

I love how this is working so ima create more threads like this with my biggest questions about opinions.

I would say cats. Before I was obsessed with dogs I was obsessed with cats. I’ve had them, but only for a short time (senior and terminally ill cats) so I don’t really have a whole lot of experience living with them, but after a long time having dogs I feel much more like a cat person. I don’t think I will have pets again, at least for a long time.

I also don’t think all dog breeds are cute, but I think all cats are cute, so overall I consider them cuter.

Dogs. They each have their downsides for sure though. I prefer dogs. Small dogs. Mine are usually well behaved and very sweet. Cats are cool if they are in a barn. I hope that doesn't sound mean. Obviously they would need their claws. (Do humane societys still declaw every cat that comes through?) I really like the gray ones and calico ones.

Dogs, absolutely. I really do love cats, especially most I've come across were super friendly and affection. It's just my other housemates aren't relaly cat people and my grandma is... ahem "allergic" so I never had a cat growing up.

Cats! I love them so much. Dogs are a little too extraverted for me. I like my quiet time.

I like both. Definitely more of a cat person though. I grew-up in a house that always had 3-4 cats at once. I have photos of the two cats who chose me as their person, Tas (passed in 2000) and Dante (passed in 2023), on my desk at work.

But in the past couple of years I've regularly ended up taking care of my in-laws labrador Harris and I have had a soft spot for him ever since he decided to 'spoon' me on the couch while cuddling his toy moose the first time I watched him. Immediately unforgiven for then sleeping in the middle of our bed all night no matter how many times we woke-up and booted him out. Whenever we go out to dog-friendly restaurants as a family he immediately becomes my responsibility. And he's an energetic boy so I'm constantly saying to waiters, "Thank you so much for the water bowl but do know he will spill it." 😂

We're looking at getting a cat or dog soon. Leaning towards cat though just because we're unsure we'd be able to give a dog all the attention it needs given we both work 9-5. My partner works in a laboratory and I work in a school so we're not able to be at home with a puppy. Hence so far all our pets (axolotls and a betta) live in aquaria.

Probably dogs. They’re both pretty cool though, so it’s close. I used to think cats were evil, but they’re way too cute for me to hate. I can’t judge based on which is better to take care of since I’ve never had a pet before.

I prefer dogs slightly more than cats. I used to be 100% a dog person and didn't like cats, but since living with a cat it's changed my mind 🤣 If I were to get a pet of my own, I'd probably get a cat as they're lower maintenance and I feel like I could barely look after a dog (plus my landlord doesn't allow dogs anyway).

I’m honestly a bit scared of both, dogs can be clingy and cats can scratch you. I do love watching cat videos, because they are cute and funny.

I AM rooting for my cat fanatic best friends to get cats of their own, but I’m just not a pet person in general

I only have experience with dogs so I voted for dogs.

I like them both, but I love dogs more. I enjoy being able to cuddle with them and having one around helps me feel safe. Also, though I wouldn't trust my birds alone with any predator, I don't have to worry about a dog messing with their cage like I would a cat.

Dogs! ❤️ I'm a dog person, I had a dog for 11 years and plan on getting another eventually. Cats are fine, they can be very cute, but I find dogs much cuter and friendlier. Maybe because I had a bad experience with the cats my family had while growing up, one avoided me altogether and the other was extremely aggressive and scratched me a lot.

In contrast, I loved my dog, he wasn't aggressive at all, not too clingy but still very sweet. Only problem was that he was a mixed breed and he shed a LOT! In the future I'm hoping to get a Yorkshire Terrier and/or a Standard Poodle (non-shedding breeds this time, because I'm kind of a clean freak).

Honestly love both as they can be amazing. I have gorgeous dogs in my family so I am lucky to have doggie cuddles. I adore my furbaby nieces.

Cats are just everything, I am a cat (slave) mum. He is just the best, and when a cat loves you then you are worthy 😂🫶❤️

I'm a dog person through and through.

Although - When I was little I was more attached to cats, but we never had one because of my mom being allergic. We had a large dog during that time and I was afraid of her. I became a dog person after high school when we got our first English bulldog and he was such a sweetie. I now need dogs in my life.

I still like cats, although I'm not sure I'll ever have one as I just find dogs more appealing now.
