I recently started playing Tears of the Kingdom and Faster than Light at the same day I think. TotK being sequel to the BotW is great as expected, but oh boy FTL! This game is amazing, such a cool concept and of course very addictive. It's currently on sale on Steam with crazy low price so I recommend it to everyone who might be even slightly interested.
Toree 3D 3/10, charming aesthetic but it’s just surface-level with no world to get attached to. Controls are fine, but the level design is really bad. It’s a game where you’re supposed to go fast but there’s a load of waiting. It’s also one of those games that tries to have weird jumpscares that amount to nothing. Sure it’s short and cheap but MAN I could have done better with that hour.
Toree 2 5-6/10, on the other hand this is much better and while it’s nothing impressive it was a fine use of my time. It still has a touch of the weird jumpscare stuff and it still isn’t scary or meaningful but it fits much more naturally in the levels. Primarily the level design is just SO much better in this one, a lot of the worst obstacles from the first game and absolutely all the waiting platforms are gone, the levels just have much more identity although still basic archetypes. It just feels like this game was having more fun with itself instead of having certain mandatory/boring segments/types of obstacles. Like I said, it’s nothing impressive and this is still just a random collection of visuals with no real world behind them, but it scratches the itch.
Minami Lane 6/10, this one is really nice for what it was! You guys would probably enjoy it even more than me. It doesn’t really have the depth to replay, but it looks lovely and has a nice pace, nice escalation of concepts. There are some really nice details and it’s generally nice to navigate. Really wish there was more to it. I guess another complaint is that there aren’t many options for customisation, and that means everything looks nice together, but man if the game were any longer that would start getting old. Granted the vibes and pace are probably all it needs, and I’m leaving this one with nice memories, I’m keeping an eye on the devs of this one since both their Steam releases so far are quite nice for micro releases. Minami was probably about as long as it needed to be and could have gotten away with unless more mechanics and/or assets were added, in that respect it’s very satisfying that it knew where to end.
I’ll recommend the latter two (mostly Minami). Toree games are half a buck each and Minami Lane is only a few bucks. These are all short and cheap games because that’s the mood right now, just sayin’ so you know what you might be getting into. The first Toree game sucks so unless it’s for the sake of supporting the dev then don’t even bother lol.
So anyway I finished Lil Gator game and it started rough but I kinda got into it. It was nice. Playing all the 6/10s lately apparently
The physics carry that game and are way better than they need to be LOL it gives the game a ragdollish appeal and I’m NEVER the kind of person to go like “oh i don’t care for the level design much but it’s just fun to move around because of movement”
But it kinda came together because of it being a vibe game anyway
Not gonna lie some of the dialogue was cringe but that was fine in the end, I’m not gonna remember the side characters but ig because of how the town develops and how you do platforming I felt a bit of something there
Ice cream man sweeps
Game overall was kinda like a really lite version of botw climbing navigation puzzles with skateboarding on top
This is actually pretty good, definitely the best of my recent plays (i.e. the last week). Super unique, there’s some repeat level design and the collectables are truly useless if you don’t get intrinsic reward out of the challenge but I do and I think that’s basically what the whole game is made for. Usually I’m not one for games where the appeal is intrinsically learning the movement but this game is so unapologetically about it and focused on it that it wins me. Wish it had some more diverse assets and a little more plot too but… hey it has David Wise music. It’s good, man.
I bought Sea of Stars in the steam sale and I’m absolutely loving it. I can’t believe it was only a couple of pounds!! I’ve played around 14 hours and don’t even think I’m halfway through yet.
Two games. I started Super Mario Galaxy a while ago, and also I started Sonic Colors Ultimate on Saturday. I know both of these games are old at this point but I don’t really care since I haven’t played either before.
Hitman Absolution and Borderlands. Both games I played before.
The original Borderlands is very different from what the series became with the second game, but damn the idea of mixing FPS with RPG is just soooo good. I don't remember if the other games did the RPG elements as well as the original game, but I just love exploring and grinding. I'm 4 hours in and the biggest issue is just not having inventory space. I liked all of the other games including the Telltale one, but the first one just hits different. You can only buy the broken version right now, but if you do you should get the old version too which works perfectly fine. Not sure if that's still the case, but it certainely was last year when I bought it. Other Borderlands games are on sale though.
As far as Hitman Absolution goes. Yeah the modern Hitman remakes are great, but I don't mind this regular storydriven AAA campaign. It's kinda annoying when a level is divided by story elements, but the remakes being removed from Steam only because the third one has the levels from the other two sucks more. You also can't complete Absolution because online achievements are impossible. I really hate gaming politics on Steam, like Steam needs to have some sort of system that all achievements need to be obtainable or else they need to be removed. I think PlayStation has that system right? I learned that when a game I finished has a troll achievement not on that system.
I started messing around with Super Metroid. I’m going to start playing it after I 100% Super Mario Galaxy because I need more Switch games to play. I don’t know why I picked that game specifically, but that’s what I’m going with.
I've chilled out a bit on Zenless Zone Zero and just been keeping up with my dailies in Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and Wuthering Waves. I've also been working on my Pokemon Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke as well a bit. It's honestly a lot to keep up with and I'm not sure I'll continue to play them all, but at least I don't get bored these days. :3
I forgot how ACNH makes you wait in real time. The game teaches you patience. I won't time travel because I might mess up my data or something. Plus if it's July 28/24 then I want it to be July 28/24.
So, to pass some time, I'm getting back to Earthbound.
I wouldn't recommend playing another building game along with ACNH. Playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 and then switching back to New Horizons had the buttons all mixed up in my head.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages on 3DS virtual console
Both are fantastic yet extremely underrated games, and they're pretty hardcore! They feel more like Game Boy Advance games rather than Game Boy Color games to me, that's how impressive and ambitious they are. They would benefit greatly from remakes, especially in the Link's Awakening Switch engine.
