Do Toys You Give to Villagers Stay in Their House?

I'm excited for Toy Day, but I'm also worried about my villagers displaying whatever gifts they're given from Toy Day. Is this inevitable?

I saw from a data mine that the presents that you get from Jingle to give to your villagers are just wrapped fruit, so there should be no worry about them showing up in their houses. You can exchange gifts with your villagers though for gifts from them (which I've yet to open so I haven't a clue what might be inside) so you have a choice of what you want to give them on that front.
