Do you collect CDs?

When did you start? How big is your collection? Are you still collecting? Feel free to talk about the CDs you have! It could be any kind (music, movies, etc).

I started collecting around December of 2024. Originally, I bought a copy of Metallica's "The Black Album" as a gift for my dad (it's his favorite Metallica album), but he said I should keep it instead. Lo and behold, I got gifted a CD player for Christmas, so I decided to start a collection!

I have about 30 CDs, most of them are metal but I have a few rock ones as well. I wish I could take a picture of them all but it'd bypass the image limit, but here are some of my favorites!

The one in the bottom middle is Guns N' Roses "Appetite For Destruction" album... The flash got in the way, lol.

I'd love to know if anyone else on TBT has a CD (or vinyl) collection.

I keep CD's for the car when I'm driving. It's not much of a collection but more so quite a few that I've complied.

The most I own from a band are Beatles CD's. I picked up the anniversary edition of Sgt Pepper while I was in England last year.

I don't collect any discs, and the only CD I'm hoping to get (but am not prioritizing right now) is "I Scream!" by PaRappa the Rapper. A true masterpiece.

Speaking of which, we had a lot of DVDs that I used to watch on repeat when I was very little in the family van's DVD player. Some discs I remember us owning were:

• The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (I really enjoyed that one. Maybe I should watch it again later!)
• Shrek (Also a good one.)
• Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
• Some Barney stuff
• A few Leapfrog (edutainment company) DVDs

And more that I can't remember at the moment.

Not anymore. When I was in my late teens/early 20s I collected KAT-TUN CDs. When my collection was at its biggest I had well over 100. I sold off two-thirds and now only have the first press limited edition versions.

This photo is ten years old. I collected another 5-10 after this point I think (depending on if they released 1-2 first press LEs per time), then realised I'd lost interest in keeping up after they took a long hiatus and dropped down to three members. I still have them on a shelf upstairs though.

I used to before I just started buying them from iTunes (2012ish?) I still have quite a bit of a collection of classic rock/metal like Scorpions, Metallica, Iced Earth, etc. to modern rock/alternative like Avenged Sevenfold, Rise Against, My Chemical Romance, etc. I used to download as many of my parents and brothers CDs as I can back when I used an MP3/Walkman until I got my first iPod and just ended up using iTunes instead. Eventually Apple Music came out so now I don't even buy them off iTunes anymore. I don't think I'd be into the music I am right now if it weren't for collecting CDs though.

Funny thing is, I started buying CDs as gifts for my parents but they eventually got on board with Apple Music. We've been on the same family plan, actually. I use it to send my father new music by artists like Billy Idol or Alter Bridge.

Not anymore, but I do have a lot of DVDs. I don't plan on getting rid of them. I tried watching some shows on streaming services and it's annoying how they cut out a lot of the ending so sometimes I miss out on a lot of context. Or sometimes the shows have a lot of missing scenes or dialogue that I remember when I first watched it on cable or dvd. So I'd have to go back to dvd just to make sure I wasn't dreaming and sure enough I wasn't.

I think it's a good thing to collect. Since you'll own it and you never know when some service might take it down and you might have better sound/audio. Or trying to find one online that hasn't been heavily modified or censored from the original source.

No I wouldn't say that I collect CDs though I do have a ton of them that I have put in a huge CD and put away the albums in storage because it just took up a lot of space in my room. Honestly the only reason I have so many CDs is because streaming wasn't around when I was a child and I didn't get iTunes until I was a sophmore in high school when I got the iPod Mini.. but even then I only bought CDs and not stuff on iTunes. I grew up in the 90s and was a teen in the 2000s. CDs were the big thing to have back then but I much prefer streaming now.

I don't, but I think physical media is super underrated. Buy it once, own it and listen forever. No monthly fee. No forgetting your account and losing your playlists. Neat collections y'all posted!

Not really, I've only collected like 3 CDs of my favorite albums: Ocean Eyes by Owl City, Future Hearts by All Time Low, and Meisekiha by MyGO! I don't have a CD player that's why I don't collect a lot; I just like the idea of owning my favorites.

I saw a CD of N25's Kagirinaku Haiiro e / ID Smile which I've also wanted but at the time I already had Meisekiha in my cart and I couldn't justify buying 2 CDs since they're a little out of my budget. But maybe someday when I go to Japan

i do!!! well... do kpop albums count? because that's what i've been collecting over the years :]

back in elementary school i used to get the regular jewel case cds of whoever i listened to (mcr, green day, avril, 5sos) then i stopped collecting physical forms of music before getting back into kpop
and now... now my wallet is constantly at fear of album releases! i have a spreadsheet to see which albums i've gotten, which groups, which version, and if they were limited edition versions/standard/etc., prices, release date vs date obtained. it's fun seeing it all listed out but my goodness seeing the total cost... anyways!!!!! ‎|ω･)و ̑̑༉

they're pricier but i want to get some vinyl editions of certain albums! vinyls are always so cool, i've been rm's indigo vinyl because each one is a unique design!!!!
i recently got a kallax shelf so that i can put my record player on top of that and use one of the cubbies for the vinyls i do have hehe

I have a lot of iTunes but I buy CDs to be mostly played in my car. Interestingly enough within the past two years, I keep finding CDs that I’ve been looking for but never showed up in local used media store in random thrift and antique stores such as Loleatta Holloway’s Love Sensation album with bonus tracks or the Black Box debut album with the original version of Ride on Time before they re-recorded the vocals using a different a different singer.

I think I have about 15. It's about the only merch I can afford, even snagged one signed one which is pretty cool.

i have so many akb48/ske48 & morning musume cds... it's so great

also a couple of slayers cds recently (the slayers anime) & a few different ones


once i get my new shelf, i can take photos

I just got my CD display case and a Korn album bundle delivered today, and I'm so hyped about it! No more storing CDs in a box now, haha. (My dad recommended that I buy a CD tower rack instead so I'm kinda feeling buyer's remorse, rip.)

No. I did have a few in middle school, but digital music was starting to be a thing more and YouTube was coming into being so the CDs kinda dropped off. Plus Mom had a harder time "taking music away" if I used DVDs, games, computers, and radio to listen to music with. And it was easy to have digital backups. And she couldn't complain and make faces at album artwork or photos that way.
Huh.. I guess that is one positive to digital media I didn't think about before..
I did have a cousin who had 2 giant binders of CDs he'd keep in his van. It was fun riding with him because he let me and his kids pick out a cd to listen to. I don't know if he still has them or not. It was 9 CDs on each page. I don't remember if the pages had front and back slots or not. But he had a ton.

I had hundreds of CD’s in several of those twirling tall cabinets. I am not really genre specific and had a wide range of music styles. But you know…digital music became a thing and CD’s take up space so I took all of them and gave them to Goodwill. I just didn’t listen to them anymore. I do have a few that I couldn’t let go of…. Queen, and a few other legendary bands.

my grandma and i were cleaning out old luggages from our closet one day and i found this. i’m unsure of how old this is but it’s still in the wrapper.

also this?? seems to be from an unknown artist. i looked them up and there’s very little info about them. not sure how anybody in my family got this, i asked around and nobody knows. must be some sort of early promotional mix tape.

got this when it came out in 2021.
