I learned late in life that toe nail fungus grows when wearing the same shoes all the time inside the house. This only gets worse during the summer time as well. Slippers or sandals when coming home from now on.
I wouldn't say it's a fad of some sort, but more like comfort to people. People go barefoot out of tradition, comfort, etc...

Oh and me and my granddad go barefoot, my gramma with slippers. I'll only where socks when sick or extremely cold (rare here). As far as coming home, we take our shoes off in our rooms. We have hardwood floors, so not a big deal.
Never, I wear slippers or house flip flops or just go barefoot but never my actual shoes. I hate when people where their shoes in the house because you've worn them outside and are now trekking them all over the house!
We keep our shoes on inside the house, but just the common areas (living room, kitchen, hallways). We always remove them before entering our own rooms. I personally dont have room slippers so I always go in barefoot in my room, but my father does have his own room slippers because their room is big.
Oh the "shoes inside the house" thing only applies when you've come from the outside and are just going in the house to remove them. We don't like parade around the house casually with shoes on, we have our own house slippers for that.
Also, am I the one who finds it odd that some people have shoes on even when they lie on the bed?? Like isn't that gonna stain yout bed with dirt??
Never! We've never worn our shoes in the house, we always take them off at the door, and we ask people to take them off too. Pretty much everyone I have ever met has been like that. The rare times I go to someone's house and they insist I can keep them on, I'm like what? I feel so uncomfortable about it, like I'm getting their house dirty.
Although, sometimes if I forget something in my room, and I'm too lazy to take my shoes off, I will quickly run in and out. I have also been known to walk on my knees to the room and back so I don't get the floor dirty. xD That might be a bit extreme, lol. ;v;
With my chronic feet problems, there is no way you're getting me to walk barefoot in the house anymore. I have a boot for one foot, and a slipper with major arch support that I always wear at home. I can't walk around without them, it's just too painful.
I never wear shoes inside my own house, I make sure to take them off as soon as I possibly can, unless I'm expecting to be going somewhere very soon. That being said, if I am over at someone else's house, unless they either specifically ask me to take my shoes off or they make it obvious that they don't want me to wear shoes in their house, I do keep my shoes on because where I live at least, there's a lot of people who would find it strange for someone visiting to take their shoes off.
Depends on the area of the house haha. I don't really like leaving my shoes on personally. My boyfriend (we own the house together) likes to keep his on cause he works in the yard and garage a lot. So it'd be cumbersome to take them on and off. Sometimes it drives me a little nuts, I tell him "take off your shoes and stay a while". But I mean it's his house too so it's whatever. But we have all hardwood in the main upstairs and the area leading to the garage/yard. No shoes on in the carpeted bedrooms, that would be weird.
I have slippers and he does too but we only wear em if our feet are cold. Barefeet reminds me to keep my floors clean haha.
I'm not too pushy with guests, most people are really nice and take their shoes off (again I think it's a "stay a while/get comfortable thing) but sometimes we have like bbqs and I wouldn't expect shoes on and off like that.
I feel like it'd be extremely difficult to live in a mostly carpeted house... Like all of these situations are no big deal to me because of the wood floors but my floors would be ruined if it was carpet.
we always take off our shoes at the entrance and use slippers around the house. i live in america, and i know a lot of americans tend to just walk around the house in their shoes but i think that's so gross?? you're tracking so much stuff around your house.
one time, i went over to someone's house to work on a project in high school, and they just got on their bed and smeared their sneakers around on their blankets???
Generally not in my own house, but that's because I spend 99% of my time at home in my room on my bed.
Otherwise I do keep them on. I feel more comfortable with shoes on. I'm not really that bothered about trekking stuff in the house since I don't go anywhere that really leaves any visible dirt on my shoes and unless I somehow get a strain of anthrax on my shoes, the house is cleaned regularly enough for me not to care about any bacteria they may have picked up.
As for other peoples houses, I'll leave them on if they don't ask me to take them off. I'll take them off when asked, but I don't find it comfortable.
I take them off, but I don't care enough to take them off if I, like, realize something I need is on the living room table once I've put my shoes on to leave. I mainly don't wear them in the house because they're uncomfortable rather than because of not wanting to track dirt in, but I would 100% judge someone for wearing shoes in bed or something.
I do walk around with shoes on, say going from my front door to bedroom, but typically as soon as I'm in my bedroom I take my shoes off. I prefer bare feet, or socks in winter, around the house. Shoes for me are uncomfortable, so I'd rather be comfortable around the house. I generally take off my shoes at friends houses if I'm staying there for a long time too. But I take shoes off for comfort, not necessarily thinking of dirt. I would never wear shoes with my feet up on a couch or bed or anything, because that's just gross lol. My dad, however, is always wearing shoes. He wears them up until going to bed, I think that is just weird lol.
I mean I bring them inside the house if that's what youre asking but I take them off as soon as I'm in my room. I cannot absolutely stand anything unnecessary on me when I'm inside.
no, that's a little dirty. i wear slippers or sandals that have never gone outside. we have old hardwood floors & they're not the easiest to keep clean, so sometimes it's a bit dusty where there's high foot traffic.
