Do you like Isabelle's announcements?

Huh. I have never heard her talk about her personal life with her family. Did they get rid of that entirely with the 2.0 update? Or is it something that starts after you've played for a full year?
A few days ago she talked about sending a wake up call to her brother (I assume she's referring to Digby) and every so often she'll talk about video chatting her parents.

I like them, mainly because if I go back in time I don't get one. I also don't really get any of the "I found a sock" ones since the update which is nice ^-^

I wish we had the choice to turn them on or off. Or like people have mentioned, change between Isabelle or Tom to do them. Just have options would've been nice. Unrelated, similar to how I wish we had the option to turn off the music. I like the idea of the announcements but I find them redundant and end up skipping it as fast as I can. I do appreciate the reasons behind it, but like I said, if I could decide when to have them on and off, that would be ideal for me. I'll just stick this to the countless other wishes the acnh community shares in terms of improvements that will never happen to this game 😅😂

I preferred it when she was just randomly telling things she'd done recently. A core part of Isabelle's character is that she's prone to going off on folksy, Columbo-esque tangents about stuff from her own life on occasion: when giving you a lantern or some wallpaper when she visits your tent/house in NL, she'll talk about how being in a tent reminds her of going camping, or loving that new lumber smell in houses, and (despite the fact that it ended up being quite repetitive and generally needed more Isabelle Life Trivia to spice things up) I liked it, and I think taking it away from her in favour of her just being Copper Or Booker, But When You Boot Up Now was such a bad idea, because it robs the ditz out of her characterisation as "highly competent and faithful ditz" (if you've ever seen Twin Peaks, she is fundamentally the same character as Lucy Moran) and it ends up making her feel more generic as a result.

I also hate, hate, hate the idea that it should be optional, because they did that in Splatoon 3 and you'll just end up skipping it if the option's there... and in both cases, they're both important things! They both establish the world around you! Isn't this kind of thing more important than "being slightly inconvenienced"?

I don’t mind the ones that are actually talking about things going on on the island. They’re actually useful. ^^

It’s the ones that are like “oh I found my sock”, “ Oh, I finished my crossword puzzle.” that piss me off. -.-
also, I thought the pointless announcements were supposed to get removed after the 2.0 update, yet I still get them even when there’s more important stuff going on. -.-

Huh, I don't remember ever getting those types of announcements. I think it's because I started playing after the 2.0 update was released.

They are occasionally helpful, and they don't frustrate me or anything. But they do make me feel bad for her. She's trapped in this dead-end admin job and she doesn't really seem to get to participate much in town life or in the story any more. I wish she could provide a wider variety of services and also do things around town!

They’re helpful I guess? When she doesn’t have anything important to say, I just button mash and skim through them and it doesn’t really take that long. I haven’t had the game since launch like most people, so that’s probably why I don’t think it’s as annoying.

This part, I don't contend with. However...

This next paragraph has me a little confused. I'm also starting to see the word "inconvenience" and its variants as buzzwords. Splatoon takes place in a world analogous to our own — TVs, radios, cellphones; all that technology we use (or used in that world). Having the option to relegate the announcements to a small menu with text and a few icons doesn't take away from this world. It actually does the complete opposite, because it gives the impression that your character is listening in on these conversations while you're roaming around the city instead of being hard-locked into them. It's still "establishing the world" without taking control away from the player for no reason just to rush through thousands-of-times repeated dialogue from the same characters, anyway, as in the previous Splatoon games. Something like this would also lend itself better with Isabelle's announcements. She speaks into a microphone and there are speakers mounted on the exterior of the Resident Services, so it doesn't seem far-fetched to (theoretically) listen to the announcements while you're actually playing the game.

I like how they are now. I didn’t like when she would just say random stuff, but I appreciate knowing who is visiting my island (what NPC). I can see why some might like the surprise though. I wish it was more like in Stardew valley though, where you watch the TV for news. Because that way you could watch everyday if you want, but if you don’t want to you don’t have to. That would also probably necessitate starting the game inside our homes though rather than walking outside at the beginning…

I appreciate her announcements that tell me when the season is changing or that there is a villager at the campsite! I think her announcements where she talks about random things like finding a sock are cute, but I do wish they were more varied and there were more of them!

I also think it would have been cute if she mentioned other things, like seeing a tree with money on it, or what the "hot" item at Nook's Cranny is, etc. Just more variation in general!

Everyone hates on her announcements but Ive always been a fan of them. Like yes I DO want to know how you watched a great show last night! Then again, I come from the era of 'dont tell my brother these boxes are still unpacked' and 'pls get me a seashell' so maybe Im just enamoured by the personality she showed in NL.

I’m not a fan of them. The only exception is if there is an event or a camper.

I don’t really enjoy them, very repetitive and makes her feel like a former shell of herself. It’s only more of a reminder that she locked behind her desk 24 7. I enjoyed when she’d come out in new leaf. Actually I also miss the bookings roaming around at the start of your island. I think more special characters should roam the map actually.

not really… sorry isabelle… but if they ever gave the option to skip it completely forever, i’d take that opportunity immediately !

I'm personally not a huge fan of them! I do like Isabelle but I like just running around and being like "Oh, I didn't know that there was a visitor in the campsite today haha"
I do completely agree with this, I preferred the element of surprise that NL had when it came to campsite villagers. I’d slowly creep towards mine and hopefully just catch a glimpse of a tent.

On the flip side, it was a huge letdown when you’d see a camper on the title screen and then boot up your game just to find the campsite empty lol
