I find podcasts are good if the hosts are good- if you get some talkaholic who dominates everything, it can be kind of unpleasant to listen to. That's probably a spicy unpopular opinion, but it's how I feel. I've seen a lot of ideas get ruined by unlikable hosts.

I find everyone and their mother has a podcast now and they're super hit or miss. I've mainly stopped listening to them because they inevitably have a dip in quality or get overrun with ads/promotions. There are still a few I listen to but on the whole, podcasts aren't my thing. I'd much rather listen to music. Since I tend to listen the most while working, it's also helpful to have instrumental music or something rather than trying to follow a conversation while doing something else.

Podcasts require me to "be there" while music I can just passively listen to. A good song will put me in a good mood!

I love music so much. I'm unsure if I'd ever be able to sit and listen to a podcast... let alone prefer them over music, hehe. Music is quite literally what keeps me going sometimes. I notice when I go a bit without listening to music I get very irritable. I hate when that happens so I tend to listen to music as often as I can. Even at work when there's already music playing, there are a few times where I slip away and play some of my music from a playlist. Gets me every time.

There needs to be an alternate answer like "both" or something. ;)

I used to listen to music almost exclusively, but lately I have been really into podcasts. I think it's because I'm going through human contact withdrawal and I have the quarantine sads. Listening to people talk is kind of nice, like they're keeping me company. For that reason I have also been more into vlogs lately.

MUSIC!! i have a really short attention span so podcasts are a no-go as i can get bored easily or zone out while im listening to the podcast

Music because it feels weird to have people talk in my ear and if I don't see what's happening visually I tend to get bored.

i honestly love listening to music so much, and would gladly do so all day if i could! other than for entertainment, music is quite therapeutic for me, too, and i’m very appreciative of it. :)

podcasts, on the other hand, tend to bore me a bit. i find that i have difficulty with staying focused during long periods of talking and so, any attempts that i’ve made at listening to a podcast has ended with me zoning out lol.

100% music. I’m not a podcast person. If i can’t watch it, I would ten times rather just read what they’re saying.

I prefer listening to music more often because I can have it on in the background while doing other things (working, writing, or browsing). It's more exciting when I'm introduced to a new mix/OST rather than a new podcast host or episode. I'm one that gets easily distracted by my thoughts, so I'd only be able to retain the information/conversation of a podcast if I was taking notes as I listened.

Definitely music, I listen to music a lot and when I try to listen to podcasts I forget I’m even listening to them because I get distracted

Idk why I can't really listen to people talk about stuff. Like, I have zero concentration for listening to just straight up talking about whatever topic it is, I need visuals.

I know music doesn't always have visuals (esp since I use it as backround noise to focus) but I don't like hearing just a voice.

They're different enough experiences that I don't really compare them. I listen to music more often, due to the simple fact that I only listen to a few podcasts, one of which doesn't update that frequently.

never really cared for podcast at all, but i looove music with all my heart

music, it fades into the background since most of the time i'm studying/etc.

but when i'm doing stuff like casual gaming or drawing/running/etc (doesn't make me think as much haha) i like putting on podcasts

that being said i rarely listen to music with vocals since i focus too much on the words. I listen to a lot of classical, orchestral, and lo-fi sort of thing

I have recently gotten into listening to podcasts while I am on here browsing or playing animal crossing. Or on the bus coming home from work it is very relaxing.

music, podcasts are so boring to me. even if someone on one talks about how they were able to fight off 5 bears at once i go to sleep

I can't stand podcasts - they'e too slow and boring. I genuinely can't listen to one for more than 5 minutes unless it has someone in it that I really like. On the other hand, I can't do anything without listening to music. During an exam in school I actually snuck my airpods into the exam so I could concentrate :'P I think it's most likely related to my adhd but idk. I could just be obsessed with kpop lmao.

Podcasts!

Part of it is that between non-fiction and fiction I tend to prefer non-fiction so I think that carries over here. But I want to ask, does anyone else with ADHD find it hard to sit through songs?? There's plenty of songs I like and that I can concentrate on and listen to (like musicals and video game BGM) but sometimes it makes me feel... antsy? I'm not sure how to describe it but sometimes there's a bit of fear before listening to a song.

Podcasts are also better at keeping my attention. If I'm going on a walk, cleaning, or trying to fall asleep they help me quite a bit whereas I can block out music haha

My recommendation is "The Shrieking Shack" (or Shriek Cast). The hosts describe it as a "Harry Potter reread podcast for lapsed fans." Originally I was thinking of rereading the books and trying to think if they're really as good as I thought when I was a kid but it's been more enjoyable to hear their insight (plus I was going to do it in Japanese but turns out the translation is really bad lol)
