I don’t know if there are any threads like this already and I’m sure I’d they exist they’re buried, so I thought I’d make one — especially since I just finished making breakfast (and dessert in advance) for Mother’s Day so I’ve got food in the brain!
As for me, I like baking more but I like to cook as well. my favourite thing to make is macarons! the French sandwich cookies.
^ those things. what do you like to make, if anything? it doesn’t have to be anything fancy!

Yeah I love to cook once in a while (not everyday, though ). The things I cook come mostly from recipe books or yt videos although I try to improve on them the second time I make them & make them a little bit more 'my own'.
The things I'm pretty good at (if we are allowed to brag a little ;d):
yaaaa I cook most nights for myself and my partner but I don't have any fancy pics to show.
However, I'm the resident baker of my family - I started off baking madeira cakes years ago because my grandparents love them and from there I began baking all sorts. I have baked parkin - an old English cake made using oatmeal, molasses and spices - a few times for my grandad because it's his favourite cake too. The most recent cakes I made were fresh vanilla sponge cream cakes with hand whipped cream and homemade forest fruit compote with fresh fruits to adorn both. Both were requested as family member's birthday cakes because I usually make the birthday cakes for the family.

@vanivon I have never tried a macaron but they look delicious!
I'm more into baking than I am cooking but I'm trying to cook more lately. I like making desserts, cakes, brownies, fudge, cookies, pies, etc. I plan on getting a loaf pan next time I shop so I can try making banana bread for the first time
I cook and bake (though I haven't baked much recently ).
I've baked things like lime + coconut shortbread biscuits, cheese scones, hot cross buns, coconut victoria sponge, lots of different flavours of loaf cake, and lemon drizzle muffins, etc,
Cooking is less of a hobby and more of something I do out of necessity, stir fries are my go-to dish when I can't think of anything else to eat lol. I'm proud of my recipes for chicken korma and baked salmon though, my family really like them!
I really enjoy baking! I'm far from the most talented baker and I tend to stick to easy things (see: chocolate chip cookies) but I generally have fun when I do bake. I am a very slow baker, lol. It takes me a while for one reason or another but I like to put on music while I bake and I find it relaxing! As long as whatever I'm baking doesn't have any sort of timed element or other stresser. I like baking simple cookies, muffins, cupcakes, pancakes, and I like making apple crumble too! I want to eventually branch out and start making pies and cinnamon buns and such but those feel like they're a bit trickier.
I'm not as big of a fan of cooking as I find it to be more stressful. It tends to be a lot louder (sizzling and popping sounds), and feels more stressful since usually you're cooking a few things at once that all comes together vs how it is with baking. I'm also trying to branch out a little more with cooking but I don't really enjoy it like I do with baking.
I love baking and cooking! My cooking game got strong this past year because my husband and I subscribed to one of those weekly dinner plan things. It's honestly so worth it.
My favorite thing to bake are sugar cookies and my favorite thing to cook is well.. IDK it's too hard to choose, maybe a pasta of some kind
thanks all of you for answering so far! it's nice seeing what other people like to make ☺ i really like talking about food and food prep and reading the responses. would love to respond to literally Everything but i'll spare you all from that and only respond to some of them. for now anyways. i can and will respond to everything in this thread at some point i cannot be stopped when it comes to food talk
smarties as in the candy coated chocolates, right? smarties are so different in america vs other parts of the world that that had me super perplexed until i realised "oh, probably not the ones i'm used to." that sounds very tasty, though! i'm guessing it probably tastes like an m&m cookie....

feel free to brag as much as you want! i do the same thing with cooking too -- it's good to follow a recipe first so you know what you're doing, and then you can tweak it after you've got the hang of it! do you have any pictures of anything? especially any pizza. i love pizza and since you brought it up i'd love to see a pic of some

i'm a slow baker too, so i understand! takes me forever to make things sometimes because i take my time and don't rush with the prep. once i tried replicating one of my sister's cupcake recipes and it took five hours in total. they were really good cupcakes, though. so it was worth it. & while i like to cook, i definitely get what you mean about cooking multiple things that come together it can get really stressful. good luck branching out with both cooking & baking and i hope you can find some recipes you'll be able to enjoy cooking!
those are, and i say this sincerely, some of the most perfect macarons i've like, ever seen. like, professional bakery sold-for-profit level perfect. you did a fantastic job with them!! and i'm glad to find someone else here who likes macarons. what flavour are they? what's the filling?

I do! I like to bake more than I like to cook, though. I’m a sucker for ~precision~.
I made some chocolate chip cookies earlier. Would you like some? they didn’t turn out the best but they’re still pretty tasty
