Do you perfer reading or listening to books?

I definitely prefer reading books myself, that way I can imagine each character's voice as well as read at my own pace. I'm a fast reader so it's super important I read on my own.

I like audiobooks, but prefer to read them. I think audiobooks are soooooo slow, so I usually listen at x2 speed. Weirdly I don't have this problem with podcasts, but I mainly listen to Dungeons and Dragons actual play or true crime podcasts so that's different, I guess.

Also I like to physically see my progress as I read (both with physical and digital books). I also can read them as fast or as slow as I want. Weirdly I also have a better mental image of everything going on when reading that I don't get always with audiobooks. But again, I don't have that problem with podcasts. Maybe I'm choosing audiobooks with boring narrators? Either way, I like reading better, but will pick up an audiobook every now and then.

I prefer reading, otherwise I find that I get distracted from the story. I do like listening to audio books during flights or long car rides.

I never really had tried listening to audio books before but I suppose people telling "ghost stories" on YouTube with nothing but audio is the same thing haha. If the reader doesn't have a slow, deep and sleepy sounding voice then it would be no prob! Hoeever, someone with charisma, energy and who reads at a good pace would be more up my speed lol

If I couldn't find anyone like that? Then I'd read!

I'm not a big fan of reading, but I do prefer it over listening, as I'm able to choose the speed I want to read it in, imagine my own voices, etc.

reading. i hate listening to audiobooks tbh. ive always liked imagining the world and character voices on my own, and hearing someone describe the world or imitate a voice sort of breaks the immersion for me.

i need to start reading again its been almost a year for me now o: what are my priorities

I used to always love to read. You can escape in a book and your imagination makes the story. i have never listened to an audiobook, although for people with sight loss or any issue that would make reading difficult it definitely has its place. Been years since I lost myself in a book. Eventually

I'm fine with both. Not sure if I prefer one over the other. I think they just work in different situations. Listening to books is good for multitasking. I've been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, and it's the same thing...it allows me to learn something while I'm doing other things. If you're reading a book, an interview, whatever...then you need to dedicate your time solely to that thing. I love to sit down and read. But, you can't do that all the time.

I prefer reading, as I find it easier to keep track of the story when I'm reading it and keep my attention solely on the book, which allows me to immerse myself in the world of the book's story. Whereas with listening, it's easy to space out and stop listening to the story for a fair amount of time, which makes it a pain to try and keep track of what's going on, in addition to not really being able to immerse myself in the story through audio alone.

Reading most of the time since I prefer owning a book than reading it or listening to it online. Listening to books can be confusing and I get lost easily. With books I can focus easily and I feel like it's more fun too since you can actually have it physically.

I personally find myself drifting off when I listen to audiobooks, and the fact that they read so slow annoys me to no end.

I've always preferred reading myself. I'm a fairly fast reader and will imagine different voices for the characters, so I feel like an audiobook might slow me down and wouldn't be as immersive to me. Plus, while I do sometimes zone out when I'm reading, it's easy enough to pick back up where I was before—if I zoned out during an audiobook, it might be a little bit more of a pain to get back to where I was at. Sometimes I might re-read a particularly good scene too, which again, seems like it'd be more difficult with an audiobook.

I prefer listening. I can't get through a book otherwise. I even use text to speech to get research articles read to me for uni. I just absorb information better that way I guess. When I read, I tend to have to read the same passage 5 times to process it whereas I can process it (usually) on the first time with audio format.

Definitely reading! However, if I’m having trouble picturing worlds (such as in sci-fi) I’ll switch to audiobook.
