I imagine this has been asked before, but I thought it may be time to consider again now that the 1-year anniversary is upon us, as well as the Sanrio re-release. As the title states, do you think Nintendo will make amiibos for the new New Horizons villagers and NPCs at some point?

Reasons it might happen:
- All the other villagers/NPCs have amiibos
- Some of the new villagers are among the most "popular" in the game (probably partially because their lack of amiibos)

Reasons it might not happen:
- Not enough cards to justify a new series (only 8 villagers and 3 NPCs)
- Is Nintendo still committed to amiibos going forward?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

My current theory is this; they're going to release previous villagers who they've taken out and include them in a new amiibo card set or as dlc. They'll include the new villagers as well to make them the "big prize" factor in the case of the card set.

i have a feeling they will get one but only after enough new npc or villager re-release stuff has been made. i mean they did sanrio just now that makes me hopeful that i can get cyd in the future. i kinda hope they do the 7-11 filly that was japan only and non amiibo into one and make it amiibo with whatever other special ones they made like holden and i think a few more that way people from all over get a chance to enjoy not only the cool items we all had in NL but a shot to have a new fav villager. i'd also love to see the really old villagers make a comeback too like bow and tarou. while i never got to play with them i know people who did and after seeing them i really wanted to have them so i really hope they do but ya never know. i mean it'd be smart on their part as it means more green in the pockets and older players seeing their long lost pals coming back and jumping back in thus ramping up sales and exposure more. i mean look how nuts everyone is over the sanrio re-stock just think what would happen with brand new amiibo?!

i have a feeling they will wait until they have added more villagers because there's currently not enough characters for an entire series
so it'll be a while before the new ones are out which is really annoying because i NEED a judy amiibo 😭

I think not in the near future.
Unless they do a massive update that adds in a ton of new villagers I can easily see us waiting until the next AC game or spin-off.

The other option I could see is them doing some sort of promotion for the new villagers amiibo cards. Maybe bundled with some sort of other product.

Gosh imagine if they made the new villager amiibo cards bundled with Burger King or McDonalds Happy Meals. That would be a bloodbath.

I would love for this to be true so much! i don't care about the new villagers as none of them are as great as they seem to be IMO but there are some older villagers that I would love to see come back. Huggy, Faith, W. Link, and of course one of the greatest of all Woolio

If they do another card series with the new characters; I'd love if they re did the welcome amiibo ones to be just portraits of the villagers without the vans.
That said if they could restock the older series for longer than 1 week so I can actually get them that'd also be nice.

I think they would be but probably not in a while. unless they decide to sell a special edition pack including all the different new villager cards, it's gonna be hard to release a new series with just 5-6 villagers.. maybe down the road when they decide to add more brand new animals in the next AC game

Oh, absolutely. Not sure if it'll be soon, but I'm pretty positive we'll get them eventually. I mean, there aren't many new villagers, but even just a Raymond card could make Nintendo a ton of money 😆

Maybe Nintendo will release them alongside some of the older removed villagers, like they did with Welcome Amiibo? I could see them selling packs with a bunch of older cards and, like, a guarantee of one new character, too. Or, if we're really lucky, maybe they'll release TOTALLY new villagers 🤩 I mean, I'm definitely not counting on it or expecting it, but I could see it being a possibility, especially since they've made it clear they'll be releasing updates for this game for quite awhile.

I could see it happening. I know that a clown cat named Pierre was found in the code, and they had his model, picture and poster and everything, but I suppose he was scrapped and never returned. Maybe it could be that they're going to allow other older villagers to return and he's just one of the first ones that they have done.

That was a mod somebody made. Pierre was a promo e-card exclusive villager (designed in a competition, iirc?) in DnMe+

There is a load of empty spaces for the Zelda/Splatoon/MH/7-Eleven/Fueki villagers in the code, tho.

Don’t know what’s going to happen with the last two, they didn’t move in in NL!

Aside from a few villagers that potentially have some rights issues (like Meow and Bow), there’s enough cut villagers to do an entire run of Amiibo cards with... and I’d also love to see a “completely new villagers” Amiibo card run, as well.

...as long as they print enough, this could be a bloodbath.

Ohhhhh okay I see, thank you for clearing that up!

Eventually, maybe, hopefully, I honestly don't know since I didn't expect them to bring back Sanrio either. Hopefully they will though because hunting for Reneigh will be a lot easier for me!

Shame I didn't see this like 10 mins ago.
Just left her behind after debating to take her :/

I'm hoping for eventually but I don't think it'll be for a while unless the bring back a lot of the old villagers or add a whole lot more new ones for them to create a Series 5.

If they will stick with the amiibos, which I am not sure, then I could see them releasing some sort of thing later that has an NFC tag in it later this year. I don't think they will do cards, but who knows. However considering the bootlegging and scalping issues, along with Nintendo limiting the amount of amiibo cards and things, I wonder if they will be included in some DLC digital expansion thing later. Maybe, a post office will be introduced in the game, and if you buy a DLC you can send invite letters to one of those villagers to come live on your island after visiting by passing the amiibo scanning stuff altogether.
I mean I am honestly surprised that New Horizons is using amiibos to begin with instead of getting rid of that method for a different one if the issues with them are as large as they appear to be to me.

I think eventually yeah, and possibly just in a pack of their own? I don't think 8 villagers and 3 NPCs warrants a new series, but they could do it similar to how they did the Welcome Amiibo packs.
