I'd hope so but if not, at least more outside furniture or building-like furniture.

I think the likeliest thing to me would be that they would upgrade the existing buildings such as adding Brewster to the museum, or expanding upon Ables. I think there would be a mixed reaction to new buildings this late in the game when most people have already made their islands the way they want!

I originally thought we would, but the longer it goes on without any new buildings, the more likely I think it will be that we won't get any. There's some very vocal people who don't want them because they don't want to rethink their island design.

I still hope we get new buildings, but realistically, I'm no longer expecting it. If it had been a part of the initial plans but just didn't make it into the launch product (like Redd or the museum art upgrade), I think we would have seen it by now - 8 months in. I'd be glad to be proven wrong, though!

The way they have moved certain NPCs to the plaza plus how Luna and Dream Suite is utilized, it seems like there has been an intentional shift to get away from buildings.

In all honesty, after the first year's worth of updates... yeah, we're probably going to start seeing more buildings come into the game at some point. I find the general pessimism of this thread kinda disappointing... it's a VERY popular game, it's not going to just be randomly dropped after a year!

There's a handful of NPCs that've been replaced in their main roles, and a few who were travelling NPCs, so I'm unsure what's going to happen with them when they're added in the game, but aside from that, the rest are characters that run businesses.

(honestly I'm thinking the city's going to come back in some form?)

If we can have the cafe as a stand-alone building then that’s all I need.

On our main island? I'd guess not. They'll probably keep the current pace: refurbish existing structures or add pop-up shops/minor visitors like Kicks in the plaza. New content bought with Nook Miles will likely remain as furniture, clothing, and other items - not entirely new buildings (unless they're smaller structures like the teacup ride).

While doubtful, they could add an additional island to visit (similar to Harvey's or the city feature from City Folk) where we're able to explore a few new buildings that way. That'd add a little shine to my eyes! 👀

I would not be able to tolerate DLC. This is Animal Crossing, not the Sims 4...

Although to be honest if they would make a DC just for having a bigger size island... i would totally go for it !!!!

I NEED MORE SPACE 😂

I would love to be able to travel to like a small plaza or townish vibe island full of shops to be able to buy and come back home with all the goodies. this is a great idea that you bring up, it would be a nice addition as it would feel like we where going somewhere else for a change of airs and hopefully if this is an option we can go with online-friends too and we could actually play mini-games with our online buds, that would be a blast !

IF we don't get any new buildings, that will mean 100% nintendo released ACNH with less features than New Leaf.
i dunno i would be very unhappy if at least brewster doesn't make an appearance. I have an open space for him in my shopping plaza so i hope he makes an appearance

I think there will be expansions to the existing buildings...but no entirely new ones. Honestly, though...one way to add new shops or functionality would be to introduce more ships. There's no reason why Redd needs to be the only visitor to the beach. They could definitely add some of the other missing NPCs as traveling sales people.

Yeah, although I kinda think the boat idea should be unique.

i really do! the town feels kinda flavorless without them

i wish + hope they’ll make a flower / gardening shop and other shops for the ppl that visit the island, it would b rly cool if they made it an option for them to have a permanent shop or stand rather than them coming to the island every now and then eventually — like a practical use for stalls would b cool (imo)

I'd actually be a little irked if they do add new buildings, because they should've done that when the game was first released. It's quite harder to adjust your island with new buildings than with new items. I've also mapped out most of my island, and I do have space for one more building but I'd be annoyed along with the people who've completed their builds already.

Would really love to see maybe building expansions (like in ACNL) or renovations (like changing the color of Nook's Cranny). But new buildings I highly doubt it, and I wouldn't be a great fan of their decision this late in the game.

I don't see why, though...

There are plenty of places in the real world where this is how vendors sell their wares. Especially around the equator. The idea for Redd is that his ship looks shady and burns dirty fuel....but, I think that is enough to set him apart. You could just as easily have Tortimer dock in a ritzy yacht and explain that he's enjoying his retirement at sea...or have Kapp'n dock a cruise liner with Brewster's cafe on board. Copper and Booker could dock in a police boat and say "We're paroling these waters for suspicious characters", etc.

It would sure beat the "hidden" beach being empty 95% of the time...

This is why new buildings should be optional. I would love two new buildings a cafe and a garden shop. I can see why people wouldn’t want them. It should be where you can either get a new building, keep them as traveling merchants or upgrade shops.

So only Nintendo knows for certain, But yes I think we will get more external buildings to our island.

Let's look at some points
  • Dev team have said they plan to support the game for 2-3 years with updates
It doesn't prove anything, updates could be free / paid or just contain patches.

  • We are 8 months from launch, so should'nt expect a deluge of new buildings yet.
It's irrelevant. Would you like to say, we can easily accept living in tent, because it's just 8 months from launch and proper house will come after 18 months?

  • We've technically already had 1 new external building added to the game, Redd's Treasure Trawler in the April update. It's just neither permanent nor placeable, and part of the daily rotations so I guess most people don't consider it a new "building", although how it is in the game code is the same as a new external building would be, code for interior, doors etc and it acts very much like a new shop such as ables
It's just an assumption. I could say, at some point pier will be extended giving us access to another island, but not now, just in the future.

  • Their approach with NH has clearly been to avoid unnecessary buildings and streamline functionality, for example we don't really need Shampoodles when we can style our hair at a mirror. So missing some buildings does'nt mean we won't get more, just that the new buildings have to be a bit more fleshed out.
We may use this explanation for Label, where her functionality is sufficient, but with her luggage she looks like homeless. Why we should have Club LOL when K.K. is happily performing in "the plaza" etc.

  • Previous AC games have always had a lot of external buildings for towns

Some does, some not. AC Wild World hasn't much. AC City Folk offers more buildings than AC Wild World.

  • The game allows you to edit the terrain and place items anywhere. So there is plenty of scope for more structures as you can move stuff around to make space

Doesn't prove anything. With this assumption one may say, why we don't have 40 villagers, because we don't need so much trees. Another one will say, why we have 10 villagers, as 5 will be enough because want some more trees.

  • While some people have "filled" up their islands, past updates such as pumpkin farming in October have shown Nintendo are adding features that require us to use space on our island, so they are clearing intending to add content that takes space on our island, and expecting people to update and change over time if they don't have any.

Just like above, proves nothing. We may fill all empty spaces with bags of bells, but we can have bells in the bank. We may have flowers everywhere, but nothing will stop us from removing all flowers from our island.

  • The map (on your nookphone) clearly has space for as many as 5 additional buildings

The map on nookphone could be changed, altered by developers in any way.

  • There are parts of our island where buildings / structures can be added on in fixed places, so without a kit for us to put them where we want. The Pier, the outcrop of land we all have. Tortimer could have a boat on the pier for example or even a boathouse there, you could still fish off the pier

This is "wishful thinking" - why not to change entrance door in city hall, changing into elevator door? Add unlimited floors with all possible and impossible type of of buildings... why not? How many floors? What about additional 10? No... why stop at 10? Another 100? Why not to have highest building, what about 1000 floors?

At a guess I'd say we'll get around 2 placeable buildings over the next 2 years, with 2 additional buildings structures added to our island.
Why just 2? Why not one, or not 3?

I think people are worried because we've not had say The Roost or Leif's shop yet, but this team knows how to take their time with updates, they know they have a great game on their hands and holding off on the better updates for later on will only drive more fairweather sales and keep players coming back.
Everyone is different and I understand, whatever updates will come or not, not everyone will be pleased as expectations may differ.
