I'd love to say yes, but it's more likely to be a no. It is entirely possible that they will simply expand the general store, museum and the Resident Services.

Of course I'm not sure if all of these characters are returning, or if these visitors we have will even set up a permanent shop, but if they do, this is what I think might happen.
I think we'll definitely get shop extensions, as there's already some coding for that in the game's data along with some Brewster stuff, apparently, but full on new buildings? Probably not. Which makes me sad, honestly, because I still have two nice plots of land near my Nook's Cranny and clothing shop that I'd gladly decorate with at least one additional building :/
I voted no because I really hope we don’t. I don’t have space on my island, so I would miss out on any new buildings and the gameplay with them. I also don’t want my island to be too crowded and become more developed. I loved the deserted island feeling and I’m trying to hang on to it by keeping some areas empty with just flowers and trees
I would love new buildings. I think we might get a new building for Brewster but not for anyone else. It would be nice to have kicks and Leif get their own buildings. I have the space for more buildings. For those that don’t have the space they could have the option to keep them as traveling merchants.
hmm... maybe? i would love a café and it doesn't seem like one would fit into the museum like in city folk (and maybe previous titles? i don't know). i would love to see a building like in new leaf being added to the game, it would be so cute!
i find it very unlikely that a police station would be added since the functionality exists in the form of the lost item box in new horizons. and booker and copper have nothing really to guard like in city folk. i don't think these character or their building are coming back.
i'm still hoping for a gracie shop though. or that gracie comes as a visitor and sells her goods. it's so sad she isn't in new horizons
I personally think we won't get new buildings and that even the cafè will be in the museum. I feel by now it's too late to introduce new buildings since a lot of people have already finished their islands.
A lot of the features in NL that had buildings are also now implemented in different ways so if we did get new buildings I think they would have to be totally new features.
The only old feature not in yet would be Katrina, but I highly doubt she would get a permanent building if she were to return.
I guess tl;dr: Old returning buildings? No. Totally new ones? Slight chance.
I hope so! My shopping area is feeling so bare with only two buildings! I'd really love a Kick's/Lief shop, or even a coffee shop! I really liked that about NL!
I'd love a café but I think they'll just add it to the museum & any new shops could be added in a shopping centre in upgraded nook's cranny
or maybe we'll get boat visitors, for example katrina could come to the secret beach once a week
I honestly doubt it but I really hope I’m wrong. I want a cafe especially, but having a club would be pretty fun especially if our discarded villagers could hang out there the way we would see them on Main Street in NL!
the optimist in me voted yes because I really want Brewsters to return with a café, and maybe get an extension of Nook's Cranny with Leif as a permanent vendor and possibly a Shampoodles where we can get hairstyles exclusive to there. it's highly unrealistic aha but I can dream
At this point? Nah. A lot of people are bringing up old content but with what we've seen so far, they'll either make minor appearances or be integrated into already existing features instead.
There's a chance, but I personally doubt it. Buildings like shampoodle, the police station, club lol, the garden centre, gracie's & kicks are pretty much entirely obsolete since their features have been overhauled. I'm half expecting a cafe/brewster in the future just for popular demand, but even then I'm not sure it will stand on its own.
I want to believe that yes, there will be more buildings in NH, but a heavy part of me also believes that we won't. It's already too late in the game for there to be major changes, a lot of the players have left the game already and mostly the real fans are still playing it.
I'm not too optimistic given that it's been over half a year and we didn't get any major update in that time, most of it was small events but not significant changes (no buildings, no new customization, no minigames, etc). Splatoon from the same team did get a major update barely 3-4 months in if I'm not wrong.
Personally, I feel like we haven't gotten a Nook's upgrade because there isn't really a need to. There isn't as much furniture as previous entries had. For there to be an upgrade to Nook's, we would either need a major update with a lot of furniture, or the upgrade would simply add Leif in.
That's me analyzing it though, but I hope I'm wrong, I think there's a possibility they might drop a major update in the anniversary and flip the table (as they don't have any more events to add) so they can go all crazy from there. Whatever it is, I hope at the very least we get building customization back soon, it's the thing I'm missing most. On top of that, I do agree with some that buildings should, if anything, be optional. I know there are people who don't want them, but I do want them back myself, the cafe in the museum would be anti-climatic imo!
im torn between my hopes and wishes and the reality of the situation and then also a third option: Nintendo doesn't care
hopes and wishes: it would make me so happy to have more buildings. i feel like i suck at making nice, small areas when decorating my island and so to have another building to place would kind of make that a bit easier. and if u think about it we technically had like 5 whole buildings we could have in our towns in new leaf (but we also only had up to 4 play characters we could create).
the reality: it would probably be a Bad Move to add another building in an update because players who have already perfectly planned and made their islands would suddenly need to redesign things and that's massively stressful. also we can have up to 18 characters on our islands and idk if having the maximum amount of characters leaves u with enough space to decorate nicely.
Nintendo doesn't care: Nintendo will do what Nintendo wants (exhibit a: look at the poster fiasco) and so we just have to cross our fingers and hope they do what we want as well
i dont think the cafe will be a separate building simply because datamining has shown that it will be in the museum i believe. but i hope that other potential buildings that can be added are their own separate building. i still think it would be cool to have a strip mall of buildings but that is most likely just a me thing

Lottie could have a space in RS next to Isabelle to let us design villager houses & put clothes in their...closet/inventory for them to pull from instead of displaying them in their houses bc TANGY that dress isn't for your wall sweetheart <3
