Does it bother you when people mispronounce your name?

My name is pretty common and uses the most traditional spelling out there so when I see people trying to think outside the box to spell it I do find it amusing. And well... as a kid to immigrant parents I'm already used to the imperfect pronunciation. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt/

the only it happened to me was when i visited another country. it was for an international convention thingy and there were people from all over the globe, so i heard a million different ways of pronouncing my name. it was very interesting, really. but i get how having people mispronounce your own name all the time must get pretty irritating.

my first name is simple so its never been mispronounced from what i remember. my last name has been mispronounced a couple times, but it doesnt bother me

It depends on how many times they've asked me how to pronounce it or the setting. My name is spelled an "unusual" way, so people tend to pronounce it as how they think it sounds with the typical spelling. While annoying, I've accepted that people just aren't always going to try to say it right or remember. I though prefer the attempt at least as opposed to "hey you", "girl", "hun", etc.

My name is Tessa, so it's not really difficult to mispronounce. Usually I just laugh when people do, though I understand how aggravating it could be for people who it happens to all the time.
For years at school everyone called me Tesla, and it really made me mad.

I mean, I usually won't make much of a fuss about it, but it does honestly bother me. My name is, I guess you could say it's weird, because my mom just sort of came up with it herself, but it is similar to a more common name. They're not the same name, and are pronounced differently, but because no one was willing to actually learn to pronounce my name the correct way I've just accepted being called by the other one my whole life, since it's easier for other people. I've also got a double dose of this honestly, because people always, always, have trouble pronouncing my last name. Which is really really funny to me because it's literally just, it's said the way it looks, it really isn't that hard, but people always give it these weird twists when they try to say it. That I will correct usually, because I promise it's much easier to just say it the right way than the way people usually come up with. It it kind of funny to start a new class, or something like that, and just hear the dead silence as the person reads over my last name, trying to figure out how to say it.

My name is super easy to pronounce, so yeah I get annoyed when people call me the wrong name. Somehow I always get Kelly, Kylie, Kayla… like it’s literally phonetic, idk how it’s so hard to mess up haha. Of course the first time someone messes it up it doesn’t bother me, but when people repeatedly call me the wrong name it just comes across as disrespectful and I find it really annoying.

My name is easy to pronounce still, i hate when people make the same bad joke with my name.

I just don't found it funny but annoying.

Not it doesn’t bother me. I introduce myself as my nickname though , which is Ellie.
I can’t expect anyone to pronounce my actual name correctly, since it’s made up 😭

I would legally change it to just Ellie if things weren’t so complicated. My future children are going to have very very simple names. Basic names though.

Yep, so much I had to shorten my name when talking to people. Especially at work.

Name is Roberto but people would call me Alberto...not sure if its because I'm Mexican and people assume that's what I said.

So I just go by Robb now.

No, not really.
I think the only annoying thing for me is people that no matter how you explain it to them or spell it, they still choose to hear what they want to or have a preconceived idea of what it should be. So they still end up spelling it how they want vs listening to what you're telling them.

It used to bother me but not so much anymore after a couple decades of hearing every possible pronunciation from people, haha. Now i usually go by my nickname which is a lot more manageable for everyone. I did have a teacher in high school that would purposefully act like he didn’t know how to pronounce it despite me telling him multiple times - now THAT was irritating

My name is Niels and I live in France, which is why people here mispronounce it as Ni ey ls instead of just Nils. I guess if I go to other countries like the US or Scandinavian countries my name wouldn't be mispronounced so often.

It used to, but now i’ve accepted the fact that people are likely to mispronounce it.
I feel like it stemmed from the show “Zoey 101”, wherein people as a collective just decided that the name “Zoe” isn’t pronounced the same as “Zoey” (mine is, but others may not be), and don’t even bother to ask me how it’s pronounced before butchering it.

For the record, if you call me “Zo” (with a silent e), i will still respond, but i might correct you (if you ask if you got it right, afterward).

On the other hand, mistakenly calling me Chloe will not get you a response; that isn’t my name.

It used to bother me a lot growing up, now I don't really care. For whatever reason, a lot of people mispronounce my name (Laura) as Lara. Either phonics education is broken or they all have fuzzy memories but it happens more often than one would think. My last name is mispronounced on a regular basis, it is of German origin. I just correct people and move on, I don't particularly mind.

my first name is really unique compared to everyone in my area so yes it annoys me a lot!! i get so many different pronunciations but never the right one and its gotten to the point where some people in my school know how to say it so they'll correct the teacher usually on the first few days of school <3

people used to always mix up my deadname with a more common name and call me that instead. along with hating my deadname in general, it was just another thing that made it nice to throw that name in the bin where it belongs.

my actual name is something that i can't imagine anyone getting wrong seeing as it's a basic adjective.

My first name is easy to pronounce, depending on the language someone is speaking because my name will pronounce differently. My last name is uncommon, so some people mispronounced it wrong. That kind of bothers me, so I would correct others.

My name is easy enough to pronounce. I never had anyone mess it up, except for one teacher who put so much emphasis on it for no particular reason other than to make themselves and their accent sound sophisticated? It just made them look like a tool all the time. This isn't a jab at people or their accents, but this teacher was really a tool because if anyone would tell them how it's actually pronounced they'd say something along the lines of how they're making it sound more refined and less uncultured.

Well, my last name I do. My last name consist of 2 L's that are silent in Spanish (because I'm Hispanic) but people sometimes pronounce the L's. It doesn't really bother me though.
