Does it bother you when people mispronounce your name?

To be honest, one of my names could be pronounced two ways, both can be a bit annoying, but I like one way better since since my birth name is a name of a fictional character (no joke, my parents are nerds) even though I'm not a die hard fan of the series, I like it better:

Though I'm sometimes referred to as the character.. since they have a title before their name. Im called that lol, which is amusing sometimes. (Not at work) But if its pronounced the other way, people sometime think I'm religious, or my family is, and it's a bit annoying, even though it was funny at first.

But I'm not religious (Not anti religion) and it got a bit annoying after a while. It's not a big deal, but still a bit annoying when I gotta explain sometimes.

Soo both ways can cause issues in other words
Do you consider having a name associated with a religion a bad thing?

I have a religious name. I used to dislike it precisely for that reason but later came around to it when I re-found religion.

My first name is easy and I just tend to skip surname if I can. I should be proud as it was my dads name. He died years ago, fought in the army. I should be proud 🥺❤️

Haha, I'm glad to not be the only one,

Well I don't consider it being a bad thing at all, I have nothing against any religion,

It's just spelt differently, and sometimes I get asked, or presumed I'm religious because of that, and I'm not religious, soo yeah. But it's fine either way,

I also just like how my birth name is pronounced better lol

Both cause conversation regardless haha

Nah, my name is european and other countries just have a different pronounciation for it.

When Frozen came out I worked in a bargain shop, and any time a little kid would read my namebadge they said "Arna" like how they say Anna's name in the film.

I hated it so much. It doesn't happen as much now but I'll never forgive Disney lol

I have a French name and I lived the majority of my life in Korea. When it's broken down and written in Korean alphabet, it's pretty straight forward to pronounce, but it's obviously not a common name so people would either shorten it or ask if I had a Korean name they could call me by. The majority of my teenage years I was being called a nickname that was kind of forced upon me and I hated it. I didn't mind that people mispronounced my name, because I could simply correct them. I just didn't like it when they shortened it for their own convenience. I go by another nickname now, which I like ("Jul" or "Jules"). No one really calls me by my full name anymore unless we just met.

Without ginving too much away, I'm not so much bothered as much I am fascinated, because I feel that even if you aren't aware of the pronunciation, your first attempt at pronunciation will usually be the correct one just because of how people work. But sometimes I see attempts that seem to be as contrary to normal human nature as possible that I'm wondering if they're doing it on purpose. Doesn't help when they add syllables.

My entire name (first, middle and last) is very very common; honestly it would be a very interesting occurrence if someone were to mispronounce it.

I've never had someone mispronounce it because it's similar to a pretty common name, but I have had people assume it's short for something that it's not and just call me by that assumption and... it's annoying lmao. my name's not short for anything, but the word its derived from is... not at all what they always assume. you'd think if you told someone what your name is they'd just take your word for it rather than fill in imaginary blanks... : /

Nah I don’t mind, unless someone’s intentionally being a douche about it. I have a very Asian name so I guess it comes with the territory. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that’s one of the reasons why my mom chose to enroll me in school with an American name— Lisa. The main reason being she (for some very odd reason) decided to give all her daughters the same first name! 🤦🏻‍♀️ There’s four of us btw, luckily we at least got different middle names.

I've had spelling problems rather than pronunciation problems. After I got married with my name changed, I often have the last name mispronounced. It's kind of annoying, but I just got into the habit of spelling it every new encounter like I do the rest of my names. My first name exists in multiple different ways to spell and is long and my middle name is spelled oddly.

Not at all! My real name is Michel (emphasis on the first syllable, it has french origins) and it constantly gets misspelled, misread and mispronounced as either Michael or Michiel (a more Dutch variant of the name).

In fact, it happens so often that you'll get my attention by shouting any of the above. I might not even bother to correct you.

It's part of the reason I go by Mick on here the other part being that 'Michel' was somehow taken. An English friend once started calling me that for easier pronunciation. I guess you could say it's a mickname. 😏

Lots of people say Moritz wrong but I don't know how...
Its literally more its

yes and no. both my first and last name get mispronounced fairly often but with my first name, i don’t really mind since i know the x can throw some people off lol. i hate when my last name gets mispronounced, though, mainly because my speech difficulties make it hard for me to pronounce it myself LOL, so having to try and correct people is a huge pain in the ass. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My first name is extremely common (Sarah) and never gets mispronounced but my last name is super weird and does get mispronounced often. I'm so use to it that it doesn't bother me anymore and I don't feel the need to constantly correct people when they say it wrong.

Both my first and last name aren't that hard to pronounce, but I have had instances where my last name gets mispronounced. The worst example I can think of is once when I got called to the office in middle school, the person on the intercom said my name as "Carson FOLLOW" which I didn't quite understand how that was possible (for reference my last name is folio, like portfolio without the port) considering how out of everyone I've ever met, they have never had trouble pronouncing my last name. It didn't bother me much, if anything I just found it funny

I find it more bizarre since my real name isn't hard to pronounce in my opinion. I've only had people mispronounce my name a few times so it's extremely uncommon. Most of the time it's misspelt which is fair since there are multiple spellings.
