Having that trouble too. I needa make a bunch of prints for the Art Walk, but have no idea where to do it xD or how much to make them.
I've seen a lot of ppl say like $10 a print, but may stil depend on how much you actually pay to print them. Like J said

if ya'll had sustainable amount of money, how much would you pay to commission me though?
I've heard of cat print. Think one of my friends used it few years back. I dunno if she still uses them, since it's been a lil while since I've talked to her, but I heard they were good.![]()
And about that question... I dunno. If I didn't have to be practical with the money I do have... I still would have to think about it, but much more likely to spend at least $10-20 on a commission, depending on what I wanted. I've been stuck in the mindset that I shouldn't waste my money in general. I've learned that the hard way when I look back of a lot of the things I bought then. Sorry if that doesn't really answer ya Brit. XP
Oh and 2k.
Super important to keep in mind how long art will take. Honestly I hate how badly artists are treated in the private commission market. They're all extremely undervalued. People expect super high quality art for like $10 - $20 that took an artist hours upon hours to create? Its ridiculous. If you took 10 hours to paint something. Then its worth $100 MINIMUM (that is if you're skilled of course). But no one wants to pay for quality. I once had some horrible clients trying to rip me off and I simply sent them this in response:

ugh yeah my ex was a graphic designer.... He made BANK. It pissed me off because I worked longer hours to paint and he just whipped stuff up like it was nothing and got paid like crazy. Illustrators used to be like rock stars and be millionaires..... I miss those days. Anyone have a time machine I can borrow to go back to the Golden Age of illustration?
(not the reason we broke up lol)
Ah. me too. I can't let myself spend over $10 on artsu either. ;v;
I wish i could charge that much, but 10 divide by 12 = $0.83/ hr and ;A;
RIGHT??
I should just do graphic design but illustration is wear my heart is.
Ugh.
And you probably broke up with him b/c he was a butthole who ate all your food right?
It's a lot easier to be willing to spend money if you have the means to do so. I'm aware that if you want super super time consuming stuff of great quality, you have to pay for it. I wouldn't mind paying a decent amount if I could afford to, but since I can't, I have to make do with TBT/IGB commissions. :/
That's the flip side with doing commissions in general. I've noticed people charge more if it's something they use to make a living with, versus just for fun. It's a balancing act of what the artists values their time and what people are willing to pay for it. Those that value their time tend to charge more than those who don't. Ones who make a living with it, but charge less, in a way are banking on more commissions. Joys of supply and demand, or however I pictured it in my head.

Utopia has got me all excited about putting my portfolio together though. ;v;
lol that's actually not too far off! XD This is why my current honey is a chef. Instead of eating all my food, he feeds me. Ugh I love him... he makes the most exquisite wild mushroom risotto and grilled salmon :Q
(btw I did graphic design to pay bills right after I graduated from college, I felt like I sold my soul.)

This is very true. You're completely spot on!
No def!
If I could do this full tiem for fun, I totally would! But I need to generate income somehow.

and yeah if I had the means to buy art, I'd actually do RLC from people too.
But I don't and money has taken a slight turn for the worse lately. :/
I'm jealous. XD I wish my boyfriend could cook like that. He knows the basics, but he barely cooks at all. If it weren't for me, he'd probably never cook and order in, like his roommate does. It's not saying much since half the time, he wants to go out to eat, versus cook together. *shrugs*
He can afford to eat out and such, so that's probably a factor in why he doesn't cook much too.
Yep. Such is the balancing act of life.![]()
My ex once burned cup noodles.... lol so yeah I guess every guy is different. my bf just LOVES cooking and experimenting. (Seriously the only reason I'm with him..... jk jk) I cook too but I get lazy easily and he's just so much better than me at it. You should see the guy chop vegetables, its so quick and precise. Crayyyyy
I make $2.5/hr on the small figurines and $1.75/hr on the 4in ones. That's assuming I take 10 hours for the small ones and 20 hours for the bigger ones. Tbh though, sometimes I feel it's more..
It's been almost 2 months since my big order of 15 items.. and I still have 3 and a half figurines to do ; ^;
Some ppl say I should charge more for them, but if I charge like $50, I feel like less ppl would buy, and I'd end up not making as much in the long run..
