Flowers are worse than weeds

I had my entire island infested with flowers last year, and I finally spent hours digging up almost every single flower on my island, only leaving about two or three of each. Now whenever I put flowers anywhere (except for my blue rose patch, which has gotten a bit too big but I've given it a pass because they were a pain to make and I don't know what to put in that area yet), I surround them on all sides with weeds so they can't reproduce. I really like how the weeds look in NH too so I don't mind it.

Ugh, this is especially true if you just stopped playing for a while. I just spend yesterday digging & trashing all of the flowers that spread on the part of my island I didn’t pay attention to. Also my beaches are filled with flowers it’s really tragic lmao

One thing that always makes me laugh(out of desperation) is how they spam even when I surround them with cute or clear custom design. They somehow always manage to spawn even if I think I cut out all the possible ways. It’s incredible. On the other hand, whenever I try to breed, it never happens or it takes ages.

this is my biggest dilemma... flower madness.

I try to maximize my flower profit by picking the flower and then shoveling up the plant, so i can sell both the flower and the plant. (also I'm not actually sure if I get more money doing that or not...). it costs me many, many shovels and a lot of time just to clear a one-tile path i can run on and I'm not even remotely close to dealing with my flower disaster.

I reached a point where I didn't play for weeks because I found the flowers to be overwhelming in my town then it took me HOURS of playing to clear them out into nice little patches. At the moment, I find it to be managable but it was probably 5 or so hours of work to get it to that point. I hate how the flowers grow in this game.
This. I also stopped playing for awhile when my island got overrun by flowers. I had to have my best friend come over and help me shovel them all out b/c it was so overwhelming ><

i totally agree on this sentiment, i adore flowers and i like the vibrancy it gives but honestly i spent 5 hours each day cleaning up the mess and removing several hybrids on my island and i just feel exhausted for the entire day afterwards and its just what? 5 hours?

and obviously "just add invisible patterns!" im just gonna say its equally taxing as removing flowers bc acnh seems to assume its genius to have a slow animation speed when trying to lay down patterns or destroying land for terraforming

also one thing to add, at least weeds are seasonal in terms of appearance and adds more depth to the grass vs flowers that are constant
and also they can be destroyed while removing cliffs unlike flowers that are unstoppable force for some reason

if i could i'd add weeds more tbh sheesh

This. Man, I feel this. It's so nice that you can just pick up weeds, AND they stack to 99. I don't understand why flowers can't stack per type and color to 99. It would save so much pocket space digging them up.

I really don't understand why Nintendo didn't add like a "Greenhouse" sorta feature where it functions like a storage shed but its designed to store Bushes, Trees, and Flowers. I know some will make the argument that if you have a 2nd user on your island and you use the "Call Resident" and you set them as the "Follower" you can make them dig the flowers, bushes, or trees and they will be stored in the Recycle Bin at Resident Services but even that takes up a lot of time and the one thing about the Recycle bin that sucks is that the items tend to disappear over time so all those flowers you have saved up could be gone.

Or, if Leif had a greenhouse feature where he stored your excess and you could ask him to swap out from your greenhouse when you wanted to, or sell to him directly from your greenhouse. Oh well.

Ah, perfect timing. I was just feeling bad for digging up inventories full of hybrids and selling them to Nook's Cranny. I love them, but you can have too much of a good thing!

on my old island i had the beautiful ordinance, i did a decent amount of time traveling because i forgot about it.

i'm not joking, it took me 6 hours to clean up all the flowers, my brain was melting by the end of it.

LITERALLY me last night.

Could you imagine if like. They let us push the down-d button like in HHP and we could select rows of things at once to pocket? Or likewise if they just let us draw pathing like that?

Another feature I'd love someday is to be able to take a map of the island and just...draw pathing directly on it. It'd be so much nicer for people trying to get fun shapes.

I'm going to have to disagree with this.
Its very quick and easy to do.
Half an hour tops if you have lots of flowers in random patterns.
And then you never have to worry again.

But if you let your flowers grow each day, the clean up will never end

I speak as someone who's been on both ends of this.
Invisible paths are by far the superior option.

i barely covered my island with any pattern it will take me 6 hours to do unless i tunnel vision but i'd detest the game if i do it in one go (i get tired easily)
and im still clearing my island from this horrible mess of flower overgrowth (it covered every nook and cranny in my island and i just loathe flowers at this point)

i wish nintendo was graceful enough to do a row-type where u could plant patterns faster in a row because i just have 0 patience for the terraforming part, its not the idea i hate its just the slow animation paired with joycon drift you make SO much mistakes doing one area over and over again

the best i could do is probably quarantine flowers in an area and cover it with a pattern thats transparent slowly without hating the game by forcing myself to do the most tedious features of acnh

It's absolutely unbearable. I wish the cleanup feature actually did something and got rid of them for good

They really should had kept the flowers the way they were handled before. Maybe you can't kill them by running and only the petal bursts, but the shovel should be used to outright rip them out for good. Boom they're gone. Tap the B button? once to pull the petal, tap it twice (fast) and pull the whole flower for storage.

QoL without a lot of effort on their part.

I did the math on this because im bored moving rocks lol

I timed myself putting down 10 custom designs in a row and it took me 18 seconds.
If we round that up to 20 seconds that makes 2 seconds per tile.
The map is 5120 if we ignore the beach.
So if you wanted to cover the entire island in custom designs, it would take 170 minutes or 2 hours 50 minutes.

If you take into account that flowers take up 1 tile each, assuming you had a flower on every other tile, meaning you had to put down an invisible pattern around the maximum amount of tiles possible to stop flowers breeding, the tiles needed to be covered goes down to 4551 which would take 151 minutes or 2 hours 31 minutes.

So if that's the absolute maximum amount of time it should take someone to stop flowers breeding, its really not that bad :)

I'm sorry, but 3 hours to do something that should be an easy fix/QoL for Nintendo/NH is not 'not really that bad' I've been working my butt off for 2 years straight from covid-related issues. 3 hours is a lot of time for me when a lot of my time is eaten up being at work. I want my personal time to be better spent and not trying to find a workaround for a flawed QoL issue.

Its not 3 hours.
That was the time frame to do the whole island without flowers covering up any tiles.
The other time given was if you had flowers in every other tile across the whole map meaning the absolute maximum amount that a person could ever have to do if for some reason they designed their island to just be a grid of flowers.

Realistically a player would spend no more than 30 minutes to do this.
Probably less.

And this process stops flowers breeding in areas you don't want them, so is better in the long run than being able to just kill flowers.

I need to remove a lot of flowers but it's too annoying at the moment, especially with broken controllers. Maybe next year...
One concern is when there are too many flowers, you have to dig up one before you pop a balloon, otherwise it's gone forever.
