I am currently torn over which flowers I want to go with for my town. I don't want it to look festive or all over the place like I tend to do bc I include so many colours and variations. I want a clear and cohesive theme that they fit well. But I don't know which to pick because so many are pretty! And they all have different colours too! And I like lots of colours but I want their schemes to match the vibe of the island so I don't know which to stick to. ^^;

Tldr I want to know:
1) How did you decide your main flowers?
2) What are they? What are their colours?

If I went by favourites I adore the windflowers and roses. My favourite colours are pink, blue, purple, and white. I've been using a fair amount of pink/ red/ white in my town. I have a specific area dedicated to pink hyacinths because they make me think of cherry blossoms. I'm really debating on what to main/ stick to.

I first picked a theme for the entire island: springcore. Then I decided I want the flowers to fit the theme. The colors used in springcore are mainly light colors which means the flowers shouldn’t be too colorful.

The flowers I used are:
Lilies: white, black
Roses: white, black, purple, orange
Cosmos: white, black
Hyacinths: white, orange
Mums: white
Lilies of the valley

I tried to use similar flowers in one area, and moved on to the next flower type in the next area.

I definitely had a hard time deciding as well, and went in this order.
First, deciding my town theme - I decided for a gothic themed town, so naturally I went for darker colored hybrids, and gathered black roses, black tulips, black cosmos, black lillies, purple tulips, and purple roses.
Second, I browsed dream addresses to find towns that fit a certain theme I liked, to gain ideas from them. I took elements I liked from different towns, and incorporated them into my town plan. For example, I found a few towns that had areas I really liked, one specifically with a hidden gazebo with purple flowers. Another town had mainly black roses and I really liked the way that looked. So I decided to base my town mainly off of black roses.
Lastly, I planned the specific areas for my town and what flowers would mainly be used in those areas. Certain flowers would be more prominent in certain areas so the whole town wasn’t a random mix. Instead, you would get a whole new beautiful flower palette walking into a different area.

my island is nowhere near being done, and what i have done so far will likely be changed/moved a bit in the future, but since i’m going for bright, colourful, rainbow, springcore/summercore and kidcore themes for my island, i tried to choose flowers that would help reflect that. i haven’t got many areas on my island figured out yet, so i’m not sure what all flowers or plants i’ll be using, but to line my paths, i went with an alternating rainbow pattern (except i used pink flowers instead of red). i also alternated the flower breeds i used, too. this is the order i’ve decided on, and i think it looks really nice!:

pink tulip
orange rose
yellow cosmo
green mum
blue pansy
purple hyacinth

pink windflower
orange tulip
yellow lily
green mum
blue hyacinth
purple pansy

pink lily
orange cosmo
yellow tulip
green mum
blue rose
purple windflower

pink hyacinth
orange lily
yellow rose
green mum
blue windflower
purple tulip

i tried to utilize every flower breed (minus lily of the valleys, since i thought they’d be a bit of a sore thumb) since i honestly like all of them. in my yard area, i used white cosmos and lily of the valleys as it has a more springcore, pastel vibe to it, and i really like how that looks as well. :)

My island's flowers are mostly blue, purple, orange and white. I like colours that are bright and contrasting.

All along the rivers, I have blue hyacinths. My island is mostly of a rustic nature and I think lots of blue and green are great natural colours to have. In other areas, the flowers are mostly orange and white windflowers or blue and purple hyacinths, tulips and windflowers. In front of and around the plaza, I have blue windflowers and hyacinths.

I don't have every type of flower on my island. Just the ones I like. Different areas have different coloured flowers so that I feel a sense of change and discovery as I move around. Since my favourite flowers are the windflowers and hyacinths, they are just about everywhere but in different colours.

PS. Bolded words are links to my ACNH journal here on the forum with pictures of the flowers in the different areas I've described.

Usually I tend to decorate areas around my island with flowers that match the item/building that is there, but for my Fandesu Island I am trying to keep a Blue and White color pallet everywhere…for one reason only…that is my favorite color combo.

In New Leaf I used blue roses and white carnations everywhere.

I love the pink flowers in the game so much but my theme for my island doesn’t call for pink:( I actually have 2 coexisting themes on my island which enables me to use more types of flowers. My main part of my island when you first get off the plane is “failing nautical tourist town” so I’m using blue and white for that part. The surrounding areas on the lowest levels are the outskirts/back roads of the town so I’m using black flowers and maybe a little bit of white. And then the mountain at the back of my map is like hiking a magic mountain theme lol (using the ruined DIYs and glow DIYs) so I’m using purple and white for that part. It sounds like a lot but it’s a little more cohesive then it sounds lol. As for types of flowers I’m using pretty much any type that has the colors I need

Since all of the flowers have different colors (not all red/blue/white etc flowers are the same shade) I decide which ones to pick according to the color, not the species. I make the color palette I want the part I'm decorating to have and then I look up which flowers have colors similar to it.
Usually I arrange the flowers in a chessboard pattern using 2 or 3 colors (when it's 3 colors, the pattern tends to be color1 - color2 - white/black). Usually they're 2 different species (eg. yellow rose - pink cosmos - white rose)
When I want something to have the same color I mix all the flower breeds that have the same color to add some variety.
I like make groups of just "short" flowers (windflowers, roses, dandelions...) or "tall" flowers (tulips, hyacinths...), but sometimes a few tall flowers sprinkled in a group of short ones look good.

My native fruit is oranges. I use a lot of orange colors around my town.

Though I don’t think I have a main flower, I do use a lot of the same flowers all throughout. I chose flowers that look natural and have dull coloring, and go nice with orange colors.

I have a lot of black tulips, white mums all throughout. In certain areas, I’ve also used orange windflower, purple hyacinth, green mums.

My island isn’t supposed to have overly bright colors, so I stayed away from the blue flowers, pink flowers, yellow, red flowers, etc. I did use in small ereas red pansies, and blue hyacinth. Those aren’t too bright though and fit right in. I don’t have designated place for different flower species. I just place them down and try to add others that match look nice in the same area.

For me it depends on what theme im doing. When i did my tropical/jungle kind of island i did orange and pink flowers. With an emphasis on orange lilies and pink tulips. Now that i’m doing a spring themed island im doing pink and white flowers. Mostly roses as they’re the lightest color flowers i actually like.

My island is mostly green mums because I thought they looked simple and nice paired with my hibiscus bushes. My other colours were decided by villager houses/areas/whatever I had lying around.

Honestly? I don’t know. I went with green and purple Mums because I thought they looked almost elegant or subtle or something. They are soft on the eyes and go well with my island very well, which isn’t strictly themed but has sections.

I chose green and purple mums with orange lilies. Lilies were my native flower and I found orange to be a good tropical color. I liked the shape of the mums and chose purple to contrast the orange. The purple to me is cheery and bright but looks strange like poison or something, lol. Then the green was a good neutral to help even out the brightness.

I have always liked roses in real life so I knew whatever I got on New Horizons I would make sure its Roses. I have them all over my island a lot of them are at the entrance when guests walk in.

Then I have a few around in little gardens all over my island the colour scheme I went with these are red, white and pink. Pink mainly at the front cause I have a lot of water displays and the pink goes nicely with the water.

I also have a few white and red at the front too but these colours are the ones I use for around the island in the little garden areas :)

I use all kinds of flowers but only pick colors that match my village's aesthetics which is a hybrid of cottage-core/forest-core. As such I tend to stay away from bright flowers (namely, the reds, yellows, oranges), and mostly stick with whites, purples with occasional pinks/blues mixed in. During halloween season though, I'd switch up the color palette a bit by adding in blacks for that extra-witch feel :)

Well my main island has its own native flower and sister flower for example:

Destiny (Main Island)
Native Flower: Mums
Sister Flower: Cosmos

Quadratum (2nd Island)
Native Flower: Tulips
Sister Flower: Roses

Its RNG and it can be hard getting the flowers you want because the flowers are usually are at Layer 2 on the cliff. Also I was happy that on my 2nd island I got Roses as my "Sister" Flower so I can finally use Blue Roses because "Blue" is my favorite color and of course breed Gold Roses since they sell for a lot of bells when you pluck them.

I just choose flowers that fit with the surroundings. I also prefer to use normal flowers for huge areas. It's too tiring for me to get tons of hybrids.

i have different flowers on different parts of my island. i really like to combine blue, white and green flowers so i have that color scheme in a few places, but i also have primary colors, orange and yellow, and pink flowers on different parts of my island. i have an area with gold and white flowers as well.

i wanted to use all the flowers i like so that's why i didn't decide on one color scheme for my entire island. this way i get to use a lot of flowers i like and do what i feel best suits an area

I also have different flowers depending on the area. some combos are built off of the color scheme of a building or furniture set out, others are just planted freely in combos I enjoy! the yard around my player home is filled with an assortment of colors, though. I wanted it to look a little more wildflower-esque so I focused on pinks, whites and the occasionaly blue flowers.

elsewhere, I have gold and white roses surrounding my town center which is supposed to be a bit more upscale looking. white cosmos near my campsite. my lily of the valleys are scattered around cliffs edges naturally with some placed on a little island with a statue.

I do plan to rehaul some of the flower arrangements in my town to make it more cohesive but for now I love the variety!
