I've had the game since mid 2020 and I've never restarted, even though sometimes I get tempted.

But the thought of recollecting DIYS and cataloguing items is the biggest put off for me. 😫
There are others things, like losing your Nook miles and the things collected for the museum.

Add to that, I have HHP so if I've ever restarted I'll lose all the progress (which is a lot).😶

Anyone shares similar problems or do you guys don't mind restarting and losing progress?

My first island I only had a couple months. It was more or less a learning experience since I never played an AC game before. Made some mistakes I regretted and deleted that one. I had my second island 16 months. It was the same map and fruit as the first island. I had my dreamies, my museum complete, and everything placed where I wanted it. But when 2.0 and HHP released, I got the itch to start again. This time I went for all cats, got a different layout, and have to recollect everything, which I'm still doing. There's enough new stuff it does feel more like a complete game to me now. I don't entirely regret it because I wanted a certain fruit, flower, and airport color, which I got. I'm reasonably satisfied with what I have, although getting used to this new map still throws me off a little. Gotta figure out where I want everything. Think I'll make bigger gardens this time around. As long as I'm having fun and it doesn't feel like a chore, I don't mind doing things anew. Heaven knows I need more relaxation in my life sometimes.

Well I've done a lot of restarting last year ever since I got my 2nd switch and 2nd Copy of the game. Now I have more features to do that I can ever do before. For example I can just move my regular Resident (Not Resident Representative) off any island and they still keep all of their stuff, DIYS learned, and Achievements that they unlocked. Plus I can visit myself using local online play that doesn't require NSO membership (Still need to be online though).

I can still keep my stuff thanks to transferring all the stuff I have to the other island and then give it back again when I have my new island. I've done like 50 times so this year I am just chilling with my 2nd island. There are sometimes I may want to restart, but I have to learn to take my time with this game and not rush through it. Restarting does make things more different and becomes a lot more interesting when you do things differently that you could've never done before.

I have never been more tempted to track down a second switch.....

My ACNH island is the first ac game that I’ve never been tempted to restart, mainly because I made it on release date and that has sentimental value for me. But it helps that I absolutely love the name I chose, I don’t care too much for specifics of the layout, and even though I’ve completed my island the huge customization possibilities means I can continue enjoying designing new areas if I get the urge to. Also yeah I don’t wanna go through collecting everything again. It would have been nice if they had the buy your island catalog and funds option like new leaf did for people who do want to reset (like transferring your nook phone data hahah)

I have only ever restarted once.

I had my first island, Liliana since release and I kept it until around July of last year when I just had this spontaneous crazy urge to reset, so that's what I did and Peachy was born. I haven't reset since.

Idk how people do it often. When I reset it was just pure torture having to go through the beginning of the game again and recollect everything and build my museum back up. I started to slightly regret my decision xD.

But with the big update and them adding HHP, I simply cannot imagine myself ever resetting now. I really don't want to lose all my HHP progress and all the new DIY's/ items I have catalogued/collected. It's kinda lame because I have been in the mood for a fresh start, but I can't bring myself to do it. I just get flashbacks of when I started Peachy and that's enough to make me change my mind.

I do technically have 2 switches currently, so I guess I could buy a second copy of the game, but switch games are so expensive in New Zealand, so that's a hard pass.

Well I had a clever idea of "What if I transfer my Resident who has the "Island Designer" app to the new island?" Guess what it works. So I can start terraforming from the beginning of the game even if the Resident is not the Representative. This only works if you have a 2nd copy of the game and a 2nd Switch in order for this to work.

I've restarted my islands before, but it was because I wasn't really happy about it. Sometimes I messed something up so bad, restarting was easier than trying to fix that problem. I was pretty upset to lose some of the villagers I liked (specifically Skye and Ankha), but I have their amiibos now so it's not a problem anymore.
Though I'm pretty happy with my current island, and I made so much progress, and I don't wanna lose it all.

Oh yeah, that sounds like it works great. I don't however have the money to buy a second copy of the game xD

I did get some help though. My friend let me dump a bunch of stuff on her island so that I at least had a little bit of a headstart. I still find restarting to be a pain in the butt regardless of if I have help or not.

Yeah it can be a pain sometimes especially the unskippable tutorials.

I've never reset an AC town! I have too much of an emotional attachment to them.

I also don't like decorating so it's not like I want to start over to try something new with that.

I’ve had my island since release night and I would never consider starting over. In acnl I restarted quite a bit for different maps but with this game it’s so easy to do a complete overhaul that I don’t think restarting is necessary. With this game I have not had the urge to restart and I’m not sure why. I have barely terraformed my island so my map is almost original. I’m very happy with my island.

I have had my first island since release and couldn’t imagine resetting it. I got a second switch and game in January 2021 and was going to use that island if I ever wanted to reset. Now I can’t imagine resetting that one either. I reset both towns in NL and regretted it. The only time I haven’t regretted resetting was in CF. I had a friend give me a lot of bells at the beginning and rushed the game. Resetting that one made me enjoy it more.

i've reset over 10+ times now and i just reset last night, something about collecting everything i want again is something i find pretty fun (also i hated my map n' such which helps the urge to reset lol, might go with a no terraforming rule this time as terraforming sorta stresses me out). i have the amiibo of all the villagers i want so that's not a big deal to me, and redoing the museum isn't either as i'm super behind on podcasts and it gives me something to do while listening...

All previous games, I have done some resets countless times. I have not reset once during ACNH, and I refuse to do so. I have already put in so many hours and I actually like my island this time round. I do not want to get rid of it. I have always wondered what if? But if I really want to change things, I know I can redo the map, although that would be a huge process. For me, I see no purpose in resetting.

I haven't reset my island, though I've been tempted a couple of times. 😊 Everyone on my friends list has spent at least 1000 hours playing ACNH, and some over 3000 hours. I've spent 780 hours and never really felt like my island was "finished" and I have so much left to do. The 2.0 update released a lot of items that have helped fill out my island, and I recently came up with some new ideas to reconfigure my island layout, so it's looking more complete than it ever has.

The thing that has stopped me from resetting was losing the villagers I really like, re-learning DIY recipes, and having to re-catalogue all of the items. I do have a second Switch, so if I really feel that I want to start again, I'll just work on an island there instead!

Pfft imagine if he actually said that in this game that would leave you feeling scared. I know Resetti is known to have scared the kids when they first played the game.

I find it interesting how in past AC games they would guilt trip you when you ask if you want to restart your town. They would be very sad and they would even ask you again if you want to delete it. But in this game it doesn't happen like that. Tom Nook does mention it but doesn't allow it to happen in the game. You actually have to go to your system and select data management in order to delete the save data.

I really like the training period so I don't mind doing it again and again.
