It depends on the type of bread, how my mood strikes me, and if I happen to be eating anything else with it. If it's one of those days where toast is the only thing I'll be eating for awhile (which is most days) then I've grown rather fond of butter and strawberry jam. Marmalade is also quite good, but I have to be in the right mood for it.
Lately, however, since I haven't gotten around to buying more jam, I've been buttering the toast and lightly dusting it with brown sugar. It's terribly unhealthy, but... I don't have anything after that. It's just terribly unhealthy.
As for the level of doneness, I'm usually about a 6, I suppose. I don't like it extremely well done; just enough to firm it up. Otherwise, it takes away the flavor of the bread.
