The Nintendo Direct from this morning as been directly (lol) causing me grief. I’m so overwhelmed!

I’m so excited about the new content, especially the home customization options as well as other quality-of-life updates.

And yet, some of the other updates seem excessive to me, namely all the New Leaf-specific updates. The one that’s especially unnecessary is the ordinance update—a direct translation from the previous game. Even the specific ordinances, like the Beautiful Island ordinance, are the exact same.

The town ordinances, along with other mayoral duties, made New Leaf distinctive from the other titles. I don’t like seeing New Horizons adopting the exact same mechanics—I’d rather see all-new content to set it apart from the rest.

Other than this, great direct with great improvements to New Horizons! What do you guys think?

But why NOT add ordinances? It was a feature I used and liked. I'm sick of weeds spreading, man, lmao.
There IS plenty of all - new content. NH is its own thing, but uses past games as building blocks.

As the saying goes, don't fix what ain't broke. People wanted old features back, so they gave them back with refreshing mechanics. I don't see the issue here.

Happy it's getting added. 2 weeks ago I was wishing for this while I fished.
A regular fishing rod catches about 30 fish. Caught 25 fish and 5 pieces of trash and it broke.
2nd Island I play late at night and miss Lazy/Normal villagers.

ordinances were a good feature, so i'm glad they're coming back! even if they're "recycled" from new leaf, i don't think it matters much since they were handy. i also don't really think there's such a thing as "excessive" when it comes to free content and QoL updates, but hey!

I'm stoked that they "recycled" New Leaf stuff into New Horizons! I'm excited to build all of the shops for the returning characters on Harv's island. And I'm going to use the Night Owl ordinance, because I'm a night owl myself, and now maybe I'll actually not completely miss checking my shops and early-sleeping villagers some days. ^o^;>

And no other Animal Crossing game has farming and cooking, or terraforming, so New Horizons is still unique and set apart from the rest of the series.

The returning New Leaf furniture sets and returning NPCs have been high on my ACNH wishlist forever, so I'm really thrilled about those! c: The ordinances were a bit of a surprise to see return, but they don't seem terribly obtrusive to me since they're optional. I'll probably wind up using the Bell Boom ordinance myself. ACNH feels very different from New Leaf to me in a lot of ways, so I don't think it's too same-ish.

The great thing about the ordinances is that you don’t have to use one. As someone who often does not get to play until the evening, I am thrilled I can get the shops to stay open later and see my villagers more with the Night Owl Ordinance
Yea I’m glad they are back. I have missed checking ables so many times because they close before I can get on.

I don't see this as a bad thing, its a good thing because those were the most used features that many enjoyed from New Leaf. Plus it will be really great for the people who didn't play New leaf before so they will be able to experience it the first time.

New Leaf is a perfect Animal Crossing game. NH is sufficiently different that I think taking inspiration from NL can only be a boon at this point, considering that, to me, the main flaws with it are missing things that ACNL excelled at. Not really sure how Beautiful Island ordinance will work, but I can envision some ways it can work (including stopping flowers from running rampant after rain?) - and Night Owl/Early Bird are must-haves for so many people. I'll probably use Early Bird. Other recycled content like the Mermaid series was sorely missed.

I'm glad they're returning. The Able Sisters closing at 9pm has absolutely caused me heartache in the past, because I tend to mostly play video games at night. I'm definitely turning on that night ordinance.

I'm really glad there's a lot of old furniture returning. It has been incredibly frustrating dealing with furniture limitations in NH. Those furniture sets are great. You also won't just see people making the same things that they might've made in NL with this furniture - they will combine the old furniture with the new pieces that don't exist in NL and make something even better.

I'm also glad they're returning! they were popular in NL for a reason, and especially things like the early bird/night owl ordinances are very tailored to specific people's gameplay so they could even be considered a quality of life update more than 'recycled' content from NL. the only one i could perhaps see less use for is the beautiful town ordinance since i largely used that to prevent my flowers from turning brown in NL, a problem we no longer have, but less random weeds is always a plus!

I think it’s nice that it’s added. I was expecting it to be in the game from the start. My thoughts coming into animal crossing was that we would have access to most things we did in new leaf. When that wasn’t the case, I was a bit disappointed. The fact that they are back is nice.

I know new horizons is a game on its own, and some people have pointed out that it was fine that they were not added since its not the same game, but honestly, they have never removed so much content from the previous games before, so that was not what I expected when I played new horizons. I love that they are back.

I'm stoked about the recycled update stuff. I want more of it, in fact! Bring back the mini-games, the conversations, the big tree in the plaza that grows over time, the nook shop upgrades, Gracie, Katie and her visits, etc. If NH had exactly everything that NL had, it would be perfect.

Like many others I don't think bringing in classic game play from older Animal Crossing games is a bad thing at all, in fact I think it's a good thing. Fans have been clamouring for old game play to be included in New Horizons and now it's been included I can only see it elevating New Horizons for long time fans as well as introduce it to new fans of the franchise like myself.

I think this is more a case of Nintendo listening to players. :)

Since they do not encourage people to time travel anymore -like they more or less did in previous games- it was just very annoying for some people who could only play when the shops are already closed/not even open yet. Many also complained about weeds growing... The new ordinances solve those problems.

Yes, they could have added a few more/new ones. But to be fair... I don´t know which other ordinances would make sense.
