I remember seeing a thread like this a while back asking people how fast they could type on a computer keyboard, and since I generally do a lot of reading in college, I thought about how many words per minute I could read. Then I though to ask others, how fast can you read?
I took an online reading and comprehension test. According to the test, I can read 340 WPM, and my comprehension is 91%. I'd say that's pretty good, especially considering I don't personally think I'm that good of a reader lol
School has taught me to read quick and comprehend a lot just to get it over with. Sadly, this has carried on over to books I enjoy so I'm teaching myself to slow down. I want to immerse myself in books not speed run it.
I got 228 and 81% but I’m blaming it on the iPhone screen and my glaucoma medicine... What I’m tripping on is how it knew I said some words out loud so who knows, maybe it’s spot on?
school has drilled into my brain "skim, find key words, put down answer" so i tend to get hella bored of reading really quick n i can't fully comprehend a lot of things
189 and 91%, feeling kinda embarassed about that, I always pride myself on having a really fast typing speed (between 180 to 210 WPM depending on how focused I am) so it's a little alarming to learn that I read slower than average. That being said, at least my comprehension skills are pretty good!
uh that site was just confusing and you can probably sit and read it all day and still get **** so also i think it's p individual how much u remember so eh
417 and 82%. If I'd taken this test during the school year I probably would've done better because during the school year I use a program that when you finish a book, you take a test on it, and you get points based on how well you do. I've been competing with this (and winning) for 5 years, so I've gotten used to reading fast and remembering points from the text. Sometimes, though, I only memorize pieces that I think will be in the test and everything else gets forgotten.
If I skim read or at a fast pace then I won't understand any of it, I prefer to take my time and fully engage in the words as weird as it sounds. Also I find that reading too fast, I end up stumbling over words and then have to eventually re-read a whole sentence again.
I remember in school we had to read text books out loud to the class and we took it in turns, there was one particular guy who would take FOREVER to read sentences. I always wondered what took him so long, but now i understand that its best to take your time and we all have different abilities and preferences.
