i find it funny how...

I celebrate all holidays because I’m the type who likes to learn about things I don’t know. When I travel, I don’t just sightsee. I love learning about cultures, languages, religions and even mythologies from other countries. Other people’s cultures and religions and beliefs are all exciting to me and I like having the chance to be exposed to them a bit and for free too! Like, you don’t even have to pay for airfare and accommodations to have a taste of life in this great big world. ;) Nintendo is so cool for this IMO. I even travelled to other people’s islands who live all over the world just to see the different Nooks signages in different languages and the different names of the villagers. It’s so much fun!

i don't get how you are relating the holidays to christian players??????

Like toy day isn't based off jesus and neither is my christmas in real life

halloween isn't christian

lunar new year isn't

bunny day is a ripoff easter

they do the solstices

harvest day isn't religous

there is nothing in this game that is religious which is why it's so perfect. why do we need to have religion in a game? it's a game
[/

hot take: just bc a holiday isnt exactly that holiday doesnt mean it isnt that holiday

they literally have carnival, easter and christmas in as well as shinto festivals- what about the other religions? no plays on them? bc they arent a majority religion.

lunar new year isnt an issue for me i just found it funny but just ab everything else (except halloween and thanksgiving) is based on christian religious stuff

christmas is celebrated all over by people who couldn’t give a rats butt about god or religion

i don’t know what carnival is and the ONLY two holidays that stem from christian “holidays” are bunny day and toy day.

how is that them shoving christianity in peoples faces?

Also, demographics. your customer base. more people play the games from predominantly “christian” areas so they cater to those holidays because it’s what the bulk of players play which is business 101.

It just seems insane to me personally that people care at all about religion in a game. keep it godless forever.

I like that the game recognizes international events, even though majority of these are only on the Nook Shopping app.

I am an Asian but I don't celebrate the Lunar New Year, yet I still recognize and wish people it. I do the same with 4th of July, Mardi Gras or Thanksgiving. It's fun to learn, witness and experience differing cultures.

Not trying to argue here but there are many people who feel Christmas and Easter and a lot of the ways it is celebrated were actually derived or stolen from older religions and not Christianity at all. I like to read and learn about other religions. It goes along with Christmas as well as other holidays. Christmas isn't the only holiday that gives gifts or decks the halls with boughs of holly around that same time. Like explain to me what decorating eggs has to do with the resurrection of Jesus? It doesn't. It is believed to be stolen. A way one may decorate an alter to a God or Goddess.

So, just a little bit of info. I'm sure there are a few forum members that could go very in depth on this subject but I have forgotten a lot of the more important details and don't want to spread false information.

I celebrate whatever. Christmas is my favorite because I enjoy seeing my kiddos get excited about what Santa brings them. I constantly have a Christmas carol stuck in my head year round "let it snow" to be exact even though I hate the snow. And cold. And winter. I take zero offense in anyone's religion. Wanna wish me a whatever it is you celebrate? Thanks! I am so glad I left a good enough impression on you that you wish and hope for good things for me. Want to bless me? I will take it! I could use all the blessing I can get and appreciate that you care enough about me as a person to want blessings in my life. So thanks!

i celebrate lunar new year and i was really thrilled to see the items! my cousins and i sent around red envelopes in the animal crossing mail because we couldn't gather in person.

i personally do not celebrate easter or festivale in real life, but honestly they are just fun little events to have in-game - i do not feel like the game is trying to push anything onto me!! there are no talking animals in real life LOL, i don't look for any sort of realism in my game so i will just celebrate whatever comes up. it's a bonus lil party! i am very glad to see more representation and am always excited to see what is in the seasonal nook shopping section!

i’ve honestly never given this much thought before but even if it’s an event that i don’t celebrate irl (ex. lunar new year), i’ll still participate in anything that goes on in-game since i enjoy new experiences and learning about different holidays and i mean,, it gives me something to do aha.

I’d celebrate every single event and I love all of them no matter where they are from. :D I’m particularly happy about the inclusion of Festivale because even though I’m not from South America I celebrated a form of that holiday as a kid in my little corner of Europe. It’s a regional holiday there so when I moved it became a bit of a part of my identity. I think little things like this are the case for more people. That’s why imo the more holidays the better, and please not region locked. Someone somewhere might really appreciate it for a hard to predict reason

I like the inclusion of global holidays, and I think more should be included. I can get being annoyed by having (what are essentially derivatives of) christian holidays in an otherwise non-denominational game, however.

I'm not religious now but as someone who was raised christian in a largely, largely christian country, it can be very easy to see a christian holiday as "just a normal holiday that everyone celebrates" and not... just a day christians celebrate, and assuming christianity/its holidays are "the default". It's something that takes a bit of unlearning, lol.

I may not be a religious person myself, but it is still nice IMO to have events that are based on certain holidays. Sure, Toy Day is based on Christmas, which has religious origination, but Toy Day doesn't not have religion. The same can be said for other holidays that have religious origination.

I don't want to people to feel like I am FORCING people to play through these events, if these events in Animal Crossing just are not for you, then that is completely fine. :)
I just don't want concerns like "Oh, I don't celebrate it IRL" or "Oh, this holiday is religious/from a different religion" to get in the way of people enjoying these holidays. I know religion is a serious subject and people don't want to it to be pushed onto them, but like I established above, AC takes religion out of these events.

I've never thought about it too much but I like the inclusion of a variety of events, even if I don't celebrate them myself! as a brit I don't celebrate thanksgiving but it's still fun to do all the Turkey Day stuff, and I love seeing things like the lunar new year included just to learn more about different traditions

This isn’t even something I’ve ever thought about. Like it’s just a game. The more events the better. The events in game aren’t associated with any religion. It’s not like for Toy Day Isabelle starts off by telling you about baby jesus when you start up your game. I’m not religious and it’s not something that crossed my mind when playing video games because I genuinely could not care less.

Yeah technically the theming of toy day, bunny day and turkey day is more like? The new seasons? You don’t really see the Christian part of it it’s more the original holidays. We have spring eggs and pastel colours, autumn harvest and winter bright lights ^^

i really like all the holidays, i don't celebrate many holidays irl and i learn about different cultures this way ☆
kinda wish they would add more though like 'day of the dead' or 'diwali'

I kind of liked having special events for different regions like in NL that made you want to try to seek out players from those regions and how special it felt when you got your hands on their items but sharing different cultural events and providing background with the X button isn't bad.

Personally I think it's a good thing. Introducing different celebrations, regardless of whether you're a certain religion or race or whatever, could help to promote acceptance of and inquiry into other cultures, especially for younger kids.

Im not really aware of what it was like in previous games, but I think this improved from NL to NH

Since in new leaf your region could dictate which festivals and items were available to you, whereas in new horizons you can order all of that stuff from that seasonal items section, and it even has a little flag for the country it comes from :)

Plus it's not like it's in-your-face or anything,,, so all good imo

Another thing I just thought of. It might be difficult to add actual large scale holidays for events that aren’t ‘mainstream’ culture. Let me explain. You can make christmas and easter into cutesy animal holidays without offending anyone, but you can’t really do that for other cultures without disrespecting them, but a serious celebration wouldn’t really fit the theme of the game :/
Perhaps more items in nook stop would always be respectful and nice though ^^

i hope we get more items, i think they had candles for hannukah and kwanza but i wonder what'll happen for buddhist and islamic holidays

I love the inclusion of items and holidays of other cultures... I've actually learned quite a bit from looking up various clothing items, masks, and such. I don't know much about Lunar New Year, but it's big in much of Asia, and since the game is from Japan it makes sense for it to be a holiday. I actually wish there were more to the event.
