I voted Never because I just don't like working, but I currently work 7PM–5:30AM and it's actually fine for me. I'd rather stay at home and play games all day but obviously I can't live like that

I work Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM-8 PM. There wasn't a choice for that so I chose the third option. I like being able to sleep in a bit on the weekends, so working a little late in the evening is fine by me. I'm a night owl anyway.

Ideally I wouldn't work, but since I like having things and doing stuff I'm pretty much forced to.

I would say 9am-5pm though.

Originally part of this used to be based around media, where 9-5 was pretty much a dead zone aimed towards old people and mothers who don't work. After 5pm is when things I actually wanted to see or hear started to be aired. I haven't relied on traditional media broadcasts in about 8 years though and now get everything on demand, so it's no longer part of my reasoning.

9-5 is the shift pattern most places and events are planned around though, so it's a good time period to be working as you're less likely to miss or struggle to do certain things. Not to mention that it's a common enough shift pattern that the people you want to do those things with will probably be at and off work at the same time as you.

A happy bonus is that this is also when other 9-5 jobs work such as charity beggers, sales agents and other people who's job it is to basically harass money out of you. I end up avoiding most of these because I am also at work.

9-5 is basically the choice because it allows me to be social, do things and avoid people I don't want to deal with.

i go to university as well as working my part time job, so i almost always work evenings. i prefer it because it's what i'm used to, i know the others who work and i get to do things during the day, such as school work or other things i need to do. i also don't have to worry about oversleeping. I don't like working late nights though because it messes with my sleep schedule. i currently have a few shifts lined up that end at 2 am and that sucks. my preferred time to get off is 10 or 11 pm.

I work an office job so no shifts but it starts at 10 a.m. which is oddly late. Not sure why.

I'm not always great at waking up in the morning so I am able to slowly wake up and feel more relaxed in the morning, but I feel like I get less out of my day because I'm sleeping more when really I go to bed earlier, get up earlier, and get some things done in the morning.

For a while with the state of emergency here restaurants and most shops were already closed by the time I finished. Now they're open a bit later, but even if it was normal hours it's hard to do anything after work like join a group or meet up with people. Corona is down right now here but I'm sure it'll go back up eventually.

On the upside, I'm able to do somethings in the morning that I normally wouldn't be able to and working from home also helps.

For example, in Japan most post-offices, banks, hospitals, etc. are generally only open Mon-Fri 9-5ish (hospitals will have just the morning on Saturday open).
Oh? How do you go to them if you have a full-time job? See, that's the cool part, you can't!!! You have to dip out on your lunch break or use your limited time off to do anything (although my ALT job was understanding). Keep in mind too how long working hours are here.
But since I start late I'm able to go to the post office before work or even fit in 30 min. counseling sessions before work since there's a clinic right by my house. :lemon: Since I'm sure Saturdays must be packed for appointments this is great for me.

So it's kind of a toss up if I like this late start or not. I really like being able to go to counseling, the post office, etc. on weekdays but once Corona gets better I might start to wish more that I had time after work to do things.

Interesting how many people like morning. Does seem nice to have more time for the rest of the day. I know someone at my work starts and end an hour early, maybe if I stay in the company long enough I can get my hours changed.

I like 9 to 5, though some days I'd rather do 8 to 4 or 11 to 7 depending on how tired I am. Though, I'm a freelancer so I can more or less choose my schedule with a few limitations

All I really know is my daily 8:30-3:45 so I picked 9-5.

When I was working before some stuff happened in my life, my favorite shift was 10-4/4:30.

Honestly anything that keeps me from having to drive in traffic. I've done opening shifts that started at 4 AM which were okay for driving but I had to take a bus at the time when I moved so I was waking up way earlier just to make it since busses didn't really run much that early. Mid shifts I hated because I'd get off around 3-5 PM and traffic is horrible. Night shifts were nice driving but scary when taking the bus back home. Now that I have a car I'd say night shifts are my preference.

Ideally 9-5 but those don’t exist where I work so I choose 3-11pm :’) I’m a morning person but not morning enough to wake up at 6am

I've only worked either typical day shift and evening shift with different jobs I've had. I think I would like afternoon best out of the poll options. I really hate having to get up early for work. Even 8am is early for me. The downside of evening shift is that you feel hyped up after work and don't want to go to bed right away - at least I don't. So that meant I didn't go to bed until maybe 3am-4am, but then the sun starts rising and people start being noisy outside only a few hours later. That was rough.

Option 2 and 3. Get to see more sunlight and still have enough rest. Plus, afterwards l would still have energy left to do things.

recently i have been getting mid week and weekend shifts until 1 and 2 am... i'll tell you right now that that is 100% not my preferred shift. having university classes during the day and working in the evening is manageable if you get off at least before 11 pm. 2 am on a wednesday just isn't working out for me lol

(yes i have contacted management about this and gotten some future shifts moved. still, now i work most fridays and saturdays until 1 am. yay i am So happy )): )

I don't have a strong preference, but I used to work a job that started at 5AM and going to bed at 8PM and waking up at 4AM was heck. I never want to go through that again. The only real plus side was having the building to myself early in the morning and being able to play music to keep myself sane. But the negatives far outshone it: when the weather was too poor for driving, I had to walk 2 miles to get there, sometimes in snowstorms. And doing that before dawn, when the roads are not cleared, was downright awful. I don't miss it.

Early works best for me, so I can have the rest of the day to do something else. The shorter the noon break the better if it allows me to finish sooner. I'm useless in the afternoon anyway so...
I hate starting late, because then I have to interrupt whatever I'm doing to go to work, or I don't have time to start doing anything.
I used to work from 8am to 2pm without breaks, it was perfect.

I love working in the early morning and getting out mid-afternoon. Firstly, I am a morning person -- so my energy is best in the early morning. I generally feel WAY better when I wake up early and get everything done in the early parts of the day than vice versa. I get really depressed and grumpy when I have obligations that leak into my evening lol. I'm very protective of my evening time. Maybe not the best trait to have lol, but whatever. :p I also really like getting off earlier because then I can miss the rush hour commute. My commute from work and school is about an hour and twenty minutes.... leaving at 3-4pm in the day versus leaving at 5-6 makes literally a world of difference. The former might be an hour and fifteen minutes, but the latter turns it into an hour and forty five sometimes. So not really that fun lol.

In terms of lifestyle, I prefer working during the day but I find night shifts to be better ones in my job

I personally prefer earlier shifts. Start the work day early, end the work day early, and then have the rest of the day to myself.

I work 9:30 - 4:30 right now and I feel like it's a reasonable shift. Especially since I'm working from home. I don't need to get up earlier than 9 and I don't have a commute home so I can start my non-work life pretty early in the evening.
