Guest, you're invited to help build our new TBT time capsule! It contains three parts, with some of its elements planned to open in 2029 and others not until the distant future of 2034. Get started in 2024 Community Time Capsule: Blueprints.
I prefer evening shifts. I work part-time six days a week and I typically work from 4 or 5 PM to 7 or 8 PM. I live in a walking distance from my job, which is convenient for me.
I work an office job 8:30-5 Monday-Friday.
It's the perfect schedule for me. I worked retail for 8 years and absolutely loathed shifts. Especially when they schedule you for a closing shift, and then opening up the next morning. They really don't care about you at all in retail
Sometimes I do wish I could get out at like, 4 instead of 5. But I'm definitely not going to complain over an hour lol.
When I did have to work, I preferred 2nd shift/afternoon. I have never been able to wake up early very well (it would take me 2 hours of being a zombie even with coffee), so it was just physically easier on me to work afternoon hours.
Currently I work part time and my shifts are shorter than any other job I've had since I'm now doing college full time. I prefer the 10:30-4:00 shifts I get as opposed to the 4:00-9:30 shifts since I like going to bed pretty early most nights. It's even worse with the daylight savings times now. I've never been a fan of closing since there's a lot to do and it feels like it takes ages to get out, plus 1/3rd of the time I'm just floating around helping with odds and ends since it takes shorter to close FOH and I'm not trained for BOH
I prefer to work a normal 9 - 5 job even though I'm a night owl. Currently, I work 9 - 5:30 and it's perfect.
I used to work food service and I almost always got scheduled to work closing at every job I had and I HATED it because in addition to closing chores being a huge pain to do, it was very hard to schedule things or have a life with that kind of schedule. At one job, it wasn't too rare for me to end up staying until 2am even though we closed at 11pm, because the owners refused to hire any more people and they also kept stacking chores that were typically done in the mornings onto our closing chore list because their lazy butts didn't want to do them.
It also screwed up my sleep schedule even worse than it already was because physical activity doesn't really tire me out and makes me want to sleep, it keeps me wide awake instead.
Gotta say, I really don't understand people who hate office jobs. I get paid more than my former food service managers did to sit in a chair and do basically nothing.
Personally i really like working overnights because i take the bus and its easier to take the last bus of the night to work and then thw earliest home, rather than me having to stress about making the last bus
jk not really. if i had a job i liked i think my ideal shift would be along the lines of 8-4. i feel like 9-5 just eats up your entire day, and even though 4pm is only an hour earlier it still feels better imo. i also really liked working overnight shifts because it was so quiet and mostly preparing for the next day, but it messed up my sleep so bad that i definitely couldn't go back.
Most of my shifts end up being 12-14 hours. I don't mind it too much on weekdays, I'll usually hide in the back and get work done. But on the weekend, when the staff is gone, lines are out the door and I'm all alone? Makes me re-evaluate my life.
So I guess my preferred shift isn't a time, but a day.
I work 6am-2pm every day and have my two days off in a row thanks to my sweet bosses. It’s usually never a thing for people working in grocery stores to have the days off be side by side. I use to have to work 4am-12pm and before that was 2am-10am so I’m very content and happy with 6am shifts. Plus I get off early and I’m not too tired I have a whole half a day ahead of me! The one part that does suck is I never sleep in on my days off because my cats wake me up being used to the 4:30am cat momma.
I have a part-time job and usually work 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM since I have class until 12:30 on Monday and Tuesday, and the bus gets there at around 2:10.
when I worked on campus I found I liked to work between 6am and 2-3pm, I don't think I could work any later than that since my exec. functioning starts to dwindle around 5pm lol. I'm not currently working but I hope wherever I go they let me work mornings.
I would say the early morning shifts starting around 7am. I can work better at the morning although it takes a moment till I'm fully into my "work mood" because I'm always still sleepy af for a while whenever I wake up.
