Is there really a villager AI when it comes to being friends?

Like.. The more you talk to them, the more they become your friend.. And then you guys become best friends theoretically?

Can you have relationships like that with EVERY villager? That would be quite tiresome and not as fun or traditional to have just one or two best friends but I'm really just wondering about this.

Also, would your friendship level go down if you make them sad/upset?

Also, I can't remember. I haven't played in a LONG time. But can villagers despise you?

Yes, this has been a part of the game since Doubutsu no Mori e+. Talking to villagers, completing their errands, and writing them letters all seem to increase "friendship." Unfortunately, we don't know the exact details about how the "friendship" mechanic works (points, levels, etc.).

Yes, "friendship levels" can go down.

Villagers can get angry at you, but only momentarily.
