Was curious if Nintendo will consider how successful new horizons was with growing the fan base of animal crossing, how much money it generated, and pursue a spin off ac game after this last update to NH? Or do you think they will leave ac alone until the next console? The paid dlc is pretty big in NH to be honest and could be considered some what of a spin off itself alone. Keep you busy for a while. Although it sounds kinda long on paper I think a four year wait is acceptable. (2025)
Also just as some side things to discuss, do you think the quick growth of the fan base will effect what direct animal crossing will go in the future? Anything you'd predict?
And, what would you like to see sometime in the future of animal crossing? (Anything from graphics style to a new approach of content)
From what I have heard, Nintendo has sold over 40 million copies of the game to date. I am sure this will surpass 50 million by the end of the year, once v2.0/HHP hit the market. Also, ACNH is one of the top Switch titles, so Nintendo will certainly continue the series after ACNH.
That said, I think we won’t get the next AC title until the next console releases. Not only did ACNH bring in new fans, it also made many people buy a switch just to play ACNH. Why rush another AC Switch title when they can spend the next few years developing an ACNH sequel for a new console that could increase sales for both? Besides, it takes them a good while to make AC titles (4-7 yrs), and the nextgen Switch is already in development.
I would imagine they'd hold off until the next console is released to make a sequel - sure, this title has reached a huge audience, but it takes a lot of time to develop AC games and by the point they're even close to having a fully formed game I'm sure there'll be some kind of new console out for them to release it on. and like others have said, HHP could arguably be considered the spin off since it's building on NH so they likely will leave the switch alone for now and focus on the future
