Pokémon Legends Arceus General Discussion

The last Pokemon tried something different was back during Black and White in 2011 where they wanted to reboot the series and add more story to the game, but then most people at the time didn't like it. Then when Pokemon Sun and Moon came and took away gyms in pace with Kahuna Battles and Trials people didn't like that either as well as the lengthy cutscenes which I admit wasn't possible to skip at the time.

I just hope Game Freak knows what they are doing with Legends Arceus because this would be really awesome going forward or really bad and it could question Pokemon's future. Some people are saying how they are out of ideas and it should've ended since Gen 4, but that is a topic that is debatable for another thread.

personally I don’t think it looks that great, I’ll probably wait and see some reviews/gameplay footage before deciding whether or not I’m going to pick it up. I excepted more from the graphics tbh, the open world concept is only cool if the land doesn’t look barren.

I don't personally have any plans to buy it, but I have my popcorn ready for the inevitable Internet meltdown. It should be interesting to see what GF manages to do well and not so well with a very different (to them) formula.

I'm mostly worried about how dizzying it will be to play this. I feel like since there's an open world, the perspective and camera pans will change even more frequently than with Sword/Shield. Even though I can already tell I'll probably be nauseous for half of the playthrough, I'm super excited to try an open-world Pokemon game (I think open-world is as close as it gets to my childhood dreams of being in a Pokemon universe). I think I'll have to stock up on dimenhydrinate and make sure to play in a well-ventilated area.

Considered GF are back on it, it should be good, but since they basically sold out BDSP to ILCA and thought that was good, I'm not so sure tbh. I will probably wait a bit before I get it.

Honestly seeing that Game Freak are on it just gives me far more reason not to get my hopes up.

I simultaneously liked Sw/Sh and thought it deserved far better.

I'm sure at worst it will be a very playable game that I'll think "that was fine" at the end, which has been my experience with Pokemon for a while now. I'm ready once again for them not to exceed my expectations.

I actually liked Swsh and don't get all the hate. Honestly USUM was worse in that case.

Yeah I'm probably gonna get it 'cause Pokeymanz but yeah what can it be lol

I didn't dislike it, I just felt it hadn't "evolved" all that much from the last game on 3DS (saying that, I hated Sun/Moon, but that's a whole other topic).

A shortened version of my negative thoughts on Sw/Sh, seeing what kinds of games the Switch was capable of running, it felt like Sw/Sh was almost a 3DS game in HD. It just felt a dated rather than something I should have needed a Switch to play. At least in regard to visuals and gameplay mechanics. It didn't feel like a 'next gen' game.

But there was plenty I liked about Sw/Sh. Gym battles are my biggest takeaway from that. Loved the soundtrack for them, it was just so hype with the crowd chants and whilst I thought gigamax was generally lame, it was pretty cool during a leader battle.

'Legends' looks more so what I thought Sw/Sh was going to be and that would have been fine as their first game on new hardware, but now...Eh, I could have give it the benefit of the doubt then but I find it hard not to compare it to games like BotW and Xenoblade now.

I actually liked that they scaled down on graphics, I mean X/Y and now BDSP aren't exactly prime and better keep it low than failing high I'd say. Yeah Giganta/Dynamax stuff was lame and legendaries could have been done better.

Never played those and don't care for A+graphics, so I'll rest my case about that.

I'm excited. The game seems like it will be a completely new adventure that's totally different from a typical Pokemon game, so I look forward to it. There isn't much information revealed about the game so far, but I think they're saving the details to surprise Pokemon fans. The trailers I've seen are compelling and I'll definitely get the game on the 28th. The open world of the game looks very vast, though I hope I don't get lost exploring the region.

Honestly, I feel like the newer Pokemon games get a lot of hate because they didn't match the expectations people had for them. Sword/Shield and US/UM were different than what I hoped for, but that doesn't necessarily make the games bad. Personally, I'd like the upcoming game to have a larger Pokedex with more Pokemon to discover than Sword/Shield and more Trainer Customization options, though I don't mind if it's slightly different than what I wanted. Oh, and I don't care about the graphics since I judge games based on the gameplay rather than having some pretty graphics. There are plenty of games out there without first-rate graphics.

This exactly. I don’t know why people keep harping on Sword/Shield and BD/SP so much just because of the graphics. Like, I mean, really??? As long as we’re not playing 1D old-school Paper Mario type stuff, who cares. Judge the game based on its gameplay, not its graphics. And if you still don’t like the game because the gameplay sucks, then fair enough.

I can't quite be too excited for a game whose trailers so far have showed little to no actual gameplay, but I do like its presentation and what has been shown off so far. New regional variants and cooler looking evolutions this time around, and a wide open world, crafting and immersive interactions between you and the wild creatures, non-traditional battle mechanics.... Essentially you the player are the first to gather information on Pokemon, thus creating the first prototype Pokedex. This is breaking the 20 year old formula like never before and it's what this franchise finally needed (although they did change it up in SuMo and USUM by having trials and Pokemon boss battles (totems) instead of gyms, but unfortunatly SwSh returned to the gym formula) and it's great we will have Pokemon boss battles again and we will be able to ride Pokemon in the overworld, just like how 7th gen had Ride Pokemon which imo was one of the coolest features.

Depending on the success of Arceus Legends or if it flops (which I really hope it will not flop but I will still keep my expectations low because, come on, it's Game Freak) we will hopefully see some new advances in future mainline Pokemon games. I love Pokemon so much and just want to see it become the kick-butt, amazing franchise it deserves to be (even though the Pokemon franchise is lucrative af, GF cuts corners like no one's business, and it's because they can get away with it because, if it has "Pokemon" in the title, they will make bank no matter what and there's no denying it)

The game won't be a day one purchase for me. Gotta check it out first to make sure it's worth that $60 price tag. I skipped BDSP solely based on what I've seen that they've done with the game (or what the game lacked thereof) and let's just say I was real disappointed but not surprised, given the direction Pokemon is going. I'll stick to Pokemon Platinum, imo the definitive way to experience 4th gen.

New gameplay trailer just dropped.
As I thought it would, the game is centered around resource management and collecting Pokemon data to unlock other parts of Hisui. Strong and agile styles are different battling styles for turn-based battles. I can imagine that they'll keep the different styles and crafting for Gen 9. This game will be pretty tedious to be honest. The Noble Pokemon battles are just battles and you cant capture the Nobles. Seems like a lot of preparation is needed before going into a Noble battle because so many balms are needed to lower that rage bar.

It just looks cheap and underwhelming to me. Lands are barren and graphics are around Gamecube tier. Yet they're gonna charge $90 for it. I'm glad they're trying something new finally, but I still think it's not good. But we'll have to see when it comes out! I'm holding off to wait for reviews so I don't waste my money.

Whoa they are charging $90 for this game? I wasn't planning on getting it tbh I decided to step away from pokemon after SW/SH and find other monster games to get into. Temtem, Kindred Fates, Pal World...
I think that price would have made me wait for a sale if I still really wanted to mess with it. Most pokemon games looked dated during their time anyway. Not that graphics are everything, but having something that fits its day when it is an open world game would certainly help on first impressions.
Pokemon Colosseum had a more lively looking world, however it wasn't Gamefreak who made that game.

Should point out that it’s $90 in Canada. It’s still only $60 in the US. I know that doesn’t make much of a difference, but js.

Yes sorry, $90 CAD lol. But you're definitely right. Graphics are not everything, however, it's 2022 now. It's just embarrassing to me the standard Pokemon games have. The series deserves better and has for years. So hopefully this game is good and blows people out of the water.

This game is certainly going to be different. Its not going to be the typical monster catching and battling game that we've come to get used to for the franchise. There are many aspects of this game that reminds me of BoTW and Monster Hunter. Pokemon's identity crisis may not be a bad thing though. Its refreshing to see them try new things. I mean, the Legends player character is a member of ancient Team Galactic. We may not even get an evil team. Thats a first. I can see Gamefreak using Legends as a testing ground for gameplay elements as well. It depends on how well-received this game is going to be, but I do think that Gamefreak wants Legends to be a template of what future generations of Pokemon games might be like. Sort of like how Pocket Camp introduced crafting which is a core element of New Horizons.

I just seen the Gameplay Trailer and its interesting to say the least. It does have a mix between Breath of the Wild vibes to it and it has the some of the type Pokemon battle functions you come to expect. There is crafting in the game so thats a thing weather or not the idea is executed well. I mean it pretty much shows the same stuff we already know, but they wanted to clear up what type of game you are going to be dealing with.

I can tell this game will not be for everyone and that its a "different" type of experience. So keep your expectations pretty low on this one.

Agreed! And I haven't played either of those games so it'll be fun to jump into that style of game for the first time!

The fact that it is different actually makes the game more interesting/exciting to me and I'm rather tempted to try it just for that. The whole "you're a child facing evil team x" thing was getting rather stale in my opinion, and I would love to see them experiment more with the franchise in the future. If anything, maybe this can become a spin-off type thing like the mystery dungeon games were (which I also think were way better than a lot of the main titles).
