Nintendo has a lot of franchises. Some of these are extremely popular, such as Zelda and Kirby. Others only lasted a few games and never got the traction to continue. What are your favorite obscure or niche Nintendo series. (Or game, if it didn’t get a sequel.)

Mine is of course Golden Sun, which ended after 3 games and on a cliffhanger no less.

Custom Robo, I loved the Gamecube game, and enjoyed the DS game too. I've always wished they'd translate the Japanese exclusives for Switch online or a bundle them together in a remaster physical release, and would be beyond excited if they made a new Custom Robo game. Sadly it's been 18 years since Custom Robo Arena came out for DS, so there's not much hope... but maybe my wish will come true some day!

The Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents series is my favorite. They were three DS rhythm games that would go on to influence Osu, one of the most popular rhythm games ever made. None of these games have ever been rereleased since they contain covers of copyrighted pop, rock, punk, j-pop, and j-rock music. Each song had a stage with a cute story where your performance affected the outcome of it. On the top screen the story can be seen played out while all of the gameplay was done on the touch screen. The appeal of the series to me is that it feels like you're controlling an interactive music video and that the core gameplay works so well on the system it was made for. The series director showed interest in making another game in the series in an interview several years ago, but nothing has been announced. The series' sales were okay in the states, but not as well as Nintendo hoped because of the rhythm genre's niche nature and poor marketing. Now that Nintendo no longer makes dual screen devices the developers would have a much harder time translating the series to newer platforms. I think it's possible since the developer of Osu made the gameplay style work on PCs of all platforms, but I don't know if the developer would be willing to put in the effort.

If you like rhythm games and want something different I think the series is still worth a shot, even if the audio is super compressed from the DS' limitations. Their song lists are small, but a lot of love was put into these games and they're still relatively cheap on the secondhand market.

Probably Starfy? Although I only got to play the one game that was localized. I heard the GBA games got added to Switch Online, but I don't plan on ever getting the expansion. I also heard they aren't translated? I don't see the point in trying to play it blindly. I remember the one game I played had a lot of dialogue. What if it's telling me how to do something and I can't read it?
But yeah, I loved that one game I got to play.

Elite Beat Agents was a lot of fun for DS, would be awesome if they brought it back with a sequel!
