Nintendo 3DS Direct - 9/01/2016

I wish they would stop doing things that make the Wii U games redundant. I was excited at first when I saw Yoshi's Woolly World because I assumed it would just be a bunch of new levels and stuff, but when they said that everything from the Wii U version is in there + more it just makes me feel like I wasted ?50 by getting the Wii U version...At least offer that stuff as DLC for the Wii U, but I doubt that will happen...

And sidescrolling Pikmin looks lame.

I look forward to Pokemon and Dragon Quest though, but I did before the direct.

No news on Yo-Kai Watch 2 for Europe :(

Not sure how to feel about the new Pikmin game. I don't really like 2D / sidescrolling / platformer type games except for Kirby tbh although I may give Yoshi's Woolly World a try. I do like Pikmin though so I might get it anyway to see what it's like. Would really like Pikmin 4 for Wii U though because I doubt I'll be able to afford a new system anytime soon.

Speaking of, are the 3DS versions of Wii U games downgrades (graphically/otherwise) ? Hyrule Warriors is something I'd only want to get for wii U when the price is right, not 3DS. I think I'd prefer Yoshi's Woolly World on Wii U too for the nicer graphics.

I like how Alolan Ratatta shows off actual evolution (by Natural Selection)
Apart from Raichu and Meowth, they all do. This is just the first time they've shown the reason why so directly to fans. Other descriptions of why they changed are up on the Pokemon site, and can also be found in Serebii's Alola Form Pokemon section.

Graphically, yes. In terms of gameplay, it depends.
Super Mario Maker 3DS seems to have received some fairly big downgrades, since custom stages can't be shared online anymore, you can't search by ID, and Costume Mario is out. I guess it does have the functionality where you can create stages with other players, but I didn't see a lot of exclusive stuff.
Hyrule Warriors Legends doesn't have co-op, Challenge Mode, and 8-bit weapon reskins. It does have entirely new stages, new storylines, and new forms of attack like the team-up. There's also 3DS-exclusive DLC Adventure Maps and costumes. So it can be seen as both an up- and downgrade, and really comes down to what the player prefers. Both versions of HW are fantastic in their own right though.
Woolly World only seemed to receive a graphical downgrade, with a lot more stuff being added to the game than was available for the Wii U version.

Super Mario Maker 3DS sounds quite a bit worse from the lack of online sharing but that's cool with me since I wasn't planning on getting either version of the game.

I have seen a lot of reports of Hyrule Warriors Legends being a lot worse on non-New 3DS systems, and with me having a regular 3DS XL I don't think the 3ds version is for me. Although all those other characters/maps on 3DS look cool that I would like on Wi U. I know at least some are available on Wii U but at an extra price through DLC, so I hope I can find Hyrule Warriors Wii U cheap. I know it's unlikely but ?15-?20 would be great.

Also, btw, not that it's my type of game but the Mario Sports game looks to have realllyyy nice artwork.

Don't see why they need to make another Mario Sports game! 4 / 5 of the sports already have games specific to them, two of which are on the 3ds itself. Baseball and Soccer will not be able to compare to Mario Strikers or Mario Super Sluggers. Horse riding will likely end up similar to Mario kart.

As for the other things, awesome! The poochy amiibo is a personal favourite. Also looking forward to the new animal crossing amiibo cards as well as the update itself, just hope some of my old favourites made the cut!

Personally, I'm thrilled with the direct. Way better then I thought it was gonna be. I guess I'll go over my opinions.
I'll just talk about the things I personally cared about.

The Alola Ratatta was cool, same with the Z-ring stuff but I personally wanted the second evolutions for the starters.
Super Mario Maker for 3DS! Really happy about this. I always wanted them to do Mario Maker on 3DS because it would work well with the two screens, but I wasn't expecting them to actually do it! Going to be picking it up this holidays for sure.
Mario Part Star Rush is nice, though we've heard about it before. I don't think I'll be getting it but I'm not sure. It looks really fun though.
The new Animal Crossing New Leaf update looks great. 50 new villagers you can have in your town, along with Amiibo cards. Reallt excited for that.
The new Streetpass games look cool, I won't be buying them but I'm happy you get one free! I'm picking Slot Car Rivals. XD
Yokai Watch 2 looks okay, probably won't be getting it though and if I do, I'm not getting both versions.
Disney Magical World 2, I never played the first one but the themes that are coming out around the same time look awesome. XD
YOSHI'S WOOLLY WORLD FOR 3DS. I really wanted the one for the Wii U but I don't have one and it's coming to 3DS! I'm so happy! Definitely getting it and the adorable Poochy Amiibo! The Zelda Amiibo annouched look awesome too, I want them!
Mario Sports Super Stars looks cool, horseback riding, tennis, baseball, soccer, and online multiplayer?! Getting this too. I love Mario Sports games and this one has baseball!!
Lastly, we have Pikmin 3DS. It looks pretty. I don't think I'll be getting it because it looks a little slow paced but I'm happy they are making it.

jk I'm still getting it I'm always a slut for Pikmin

More than anything, I want Nintendo to focus on good video games, put aside the paid DLC, ambiio, and social network stuff, and don't completely abandon consoles the way they did the Wii and DS only a few years ago.

If they keep up with this, then I'll be able to respect them more as a company.

I basically only care about Pokemon Sun and Moon and the AC:NL Update. Its all good. My expectations of a Dark/Normal Rattata has come true! (I don't like the choice of its abilities, though) And its interesting to see that Pokemon will get Z-Moves exclusive to them only. But, will there still be Megas?

About the AC:NL Update, its very cool to see on how there's another amiibo card pack specially to 50 New, (We don't know about "New" villagers) but returning villagers.

The returning villagers confirmed are:

Hopkins - Pusuke (Mostly hyped for him so far)
Ellie
Boyd (Keeps his Japanese name)
Ike - Dyck (If Poko comes back, he'll be named "Mike" because of Ike and Poko's simularity... Wait.....)
Vivian - Vanessa

There will be more info for both Sun and Moon and the AC:NL Update coming soon later this month. (Not so sure on AC:NL)

I don't play Nintendo games other than AC so I was disappointed that there was so little airtime for it in the Direct (pretty much stopped watching after) but it's good to know there'll be another specific one for it in November

it looks like there will be an expansion to the town for the new campground / trailer area though so that's cool!
